If I Cut My T-Shirt Will The Ends Fray?

Cutting up T-shirts on purpose to make them look different has been done for years. Many people cut T-shirts and then add parts and patches from other items of clothing to make something completely different and unique. Some even use collars and sleeves from other shirts. Some people just like the look of the unfinished ends and cut the finished hems. Other people simply make holes in their T-shirt or cut it strategically for the sake of style, without adding any new pieces to it. This deconstruction and reconstruction of clothes is very popular, especially with teenagers and certain other groups.

For anyone who is into any type of reconstruction or deconstruction of T-shirts, it is important to know about fraying and how it will impact the changes you have made to your tee. T-shirts are made of cotton that typically will fray just a little. It does not unravel, but does need extra care because not only will fraying occur if you cut your T-shirt, but the ends may curl also. By sewing or gluing another replacement piece of material to the cut end, it will solve this problem.

In addition there are a variety of different products, usually referred to as liquid seam sealants, on the market which are made to stop fraying, like Fray Check. By applying this type of liquid to the cut end of the T-shirt or any other type of material, you will be able to make sure that ends do not fray once the cuts have been made. Another way to prevent fraying is to sew a row of stitches just above the area you cut. This will halt fraying at that point. Remember that during the washing and drying process, T-shirts get the roughest handling. Therefore you need to remember to wash a deconstructed or reconstructed T-shirt on the gentle cycle of your washer and hang it to dry.

If you cut your T-shirt and it starts to fray or look bad, the best way to solve your problem is to invest in some more T-shirts. By getting tees from a company that specializes in custom-made T-shirts, you will be able to choose the color, style, weight, design and quality that you want. You can even have a shirt made to replace the frayed ones that are no longer wearable. Custom-made tees can recreate any T-shirt design that you want.

How Can I Draw On A T-Shirt?

Drawing on a T-shirt is always a unique way to personalize it. It can turn a great shirt into a priceless souvenir. It can also simply dress up a T-shirt at the last minute, when you don’t have time to have it professionally printed. For the proud parent or grandparent, a child’s drawing on a T-shirt is the ultimate way to show off your little one’s talent and your pride. It can be done as art projects, contests and much more.

There are several different ways to draw on a T-shirt, each with differing results. The least expensive way would be to use permanent marker for your designs. Remember to put a couple of sheets of paper inside the shirt while you are drawing so the ink does not transfer to the back of the shirt. The drawing will fade a bit with time, but it should be more or less permanent. The downside is that it is usually obvious that your T-shirt drawing was an amateur job.

You can also use fabric paint pens to do T-shirt painting. This will give you a much more vivid, realistic image for your T-shirt. The image should not fade as much as a marker design, and will give the appearance of being a much more professional drawing. Simply follow the directions included with the marker and you will be on your way to a beautifully done T-shirt drawing.

Acrylic paints can also be used with amazing results. The trick is to be sure to wash and dry the T-shirt without using any fabric softener, prior to painting. After you have finished painting the T-shirt it is important to set the paint. This can be done using white vinegar or a commercially made craft product specifically for this use. Vinegar will not preserve the paint as long as the commercially made product, but it is still a very good option. It will take up to a year before you see fading with a vinegar-treated shirt.

The fourth and most professional way to draw on a T-shirt is to have a drawing you have made custom-printed on a T-shirt of your choice. If you or your child has done work that you are extremely proud of, a copy of it can be printed on a custom-made T-shirt. That’s the beauty of such tees. You not only choose the color and style, but you customize them in the way that suits you best, even with your own artwork or that of a loved one.

Painting on T-shirts is a great craft idea and lots of fun. You can even have T-shirts custom-made for special events leaving space for you to draw on your tee. You can have a T-shirt printed with a line like one of these.

Can I Take The Design Off My T-Shirt?

From time to time people ask “Can I take the design off my T-shirt?” The short answer is no. If you happen to have a t-shirt that you no longer like and want to change it, there are things you can do, but taking the design off the shirt is not one of them. All the various processes that are used to print T-shirts result in a permanent design. Certain quality of prints do not wear as well as others and may look like they may be coming off or disintegrating, but if you try to remove them yourself, the result will be disastrous. In all likelihood, you will destroy the T-shirt in question by making holes and rips in it. However, even if you succeed in getting lettering or designs off a shirt without too much damage, you will be left with the outline of the design below in a different shade than the rest of the shirt. In short, it’ll be ugly!

If you have come to the point of hating the design of your shirt, you will be relieved to know that you have solutions other than taking the design off your shirt. You can dye the shirt to the predominant color in the design, so that it blends in with the shirt and is not noticeable. You may be able to find a printer who will print something over the existing design. You can also have something printed on another part of the shirt to correct the error. For example, if you have a great comfy T-shirt that says “I love George” but you just don’t anymore, you can have NOT added below the existing line and your tee is perfect again.

However, the logical solution to a T-shirt with a design you don’t like is to get rid of it and get a new one. Custom-made T-shirts are the perfect way to go if you are looking for a new T-shirt. You can choose one in the color and style you want. You can personalize it any way you like. You can hand choose your favorite new T-shirt made to your exact specifications.
