How to Raise Social Awareness With T-Shirts

T-shirts are one of the easiest ways to quickly spread a message. They are far less expensive than a billboard and will probably be noticed more than people notice a billboard. They are more fun than a yard sign and can be used to raise awareness for any number of social causes.

Environmental causes, for example, are perfect for t-shirts. Facts about environmental causes and specific dangers to the environment are sure to get plenty of notice on a t-shirt. A shirt that publicizes these issues will be seen every time it’s worn and it may persuade others to pay more attention to environmental concerns. The shirt can also put those concerns into a specific context, like how the environment affects children or marine life.

Other problems facing society, such as homelessness, poverty, economic problems and political issues are also easy to publicize when they are printed on a t-shirt. When tackling a serious social problem, consider adding a few statistics to the t-shirt. This is a way to quickly show people how important the issue is in a way that they are sure to remember.

Pictures are also important when instilling a message. The picture on the front or back of a shirt might be what first attracts someone to looking more closely at the shirt. A picture that is a good representation of the problem can be placed in the center of a shirt and a phrase that describes the problem can be put over or under that picture. This connects the problem to the picture that will draw people in.

The other side of the shirt can either have another picture that will attract attention to the cause or it might have a series of facts about the problem. However you choose to arrange the wording, make sure it’s in big letters that will be easy to see.

Choose bright colors or bright contrasts to make the t-shirt as noticeable as possible. A grey t-shirt with black lettering will not be as noticeable as a yellow t-shirt with black lettering. If you are using pictures, try to use color pictures if at all possible. This will make them more noticeable as well as making the subject matter quickly apparent. Remember that the t-shirt should draw the eye right away. You may see some people for only a minute or two, and that’s your only time to try to raise their awareness to your cause.

One of the most important aspects of using a t-shirt to promote a cause is to wear the t-shirt. That means not saving it for a rally or a fundraiser. Wear the t-shirt to the bank, to the dentist and anywhere else that you normally go. This ensures that a lot of people will see it, and not just people who already feel strongly about the issue. Your goal is to raise awareness of the issue among people who might not already know about it or who might not think about it often.
