How to Preserve Your Autographed T-shirt

Having an autographed t-shirt is special. Whether that t-shirt is signed by a famous person or just by some of your greatest friends you will want to take care of you shirt to have it for a long time. Without taking proper precautions to preserve your autographed t-shirt, you run the risk of having it wear out, fade and destroyed. Taking care of your t-shirt will allow you to enjoy it for years and depending on the autograph allowing you to profit from it later.

If your shirt has been signed in permanent marker you may be able to preserve it easier than if the ink is from a regular pen. One way to protect your autographed shirt is by not washing it obviously! However, that isn’t very fun, so thankfully there are a few other ideas that may help you keep your autograph from fading. One suggestion is to cover the autograph with a clear paint designed for fabrics. This paint may allow the autograph to remain unscathed during washing. One suggestions however, test it on another piece of fabric over the same type of ink and wash several times to ensure it will work for your t-shirt.

Another great option is to simply hand wash the t-shirt with very mild soap such as Woolite or detergent designed for baby clothes. You can also use the gentle cycle if you prefer, but run the risk of the machine damaging the shirt. Do not dry in the dryer though as that might harm the ink. Instead, lay flat to dry or hang on a line in the shade until dry. Craftgaurd is also a product that can be sprayed over the signature to help protect it. This is available at most craft and fabric stores. For best results though washing on the gentle cycle might be warranted.

The best way to ensure the autograph will not fade is to simply not wash it. Hang it in a frame under glass to admire it on your wall. There are also companies that will preserve your clothing in a box that is designed to keep all air and bugs out to keep the clothing in near perfect condition. This option can be quite expensive though and may not work the way you want it to. If you choose to use a preservation company make sure to investigate the company to ensure that they offer the exact services you require.

Not wearing the shirt really is the best way to keep your t-shirt from fading or staining, ruining the effect the autograph provides. Preserving your autographed t-shirt will allow you to enjoy your collectible for years to come. You may even profit from the shirt later on if the autograph becomes worth money. So take your time and choose what method works best for your needs. If you choose to wear your shirt, take your time in washing it with gentle detergents and don’t put it through a dryer. Your shirt is your memory of that particular event in your life and will be a reminder for years to come.

T-Shirt Storage 101 – How to Store Your T-Shirts

How to store your T-shirts is another one of those debatable topics. Many people swear that their preferred method is the absolute best and only way to store T-shirts. Whether to fold or hang T-shirts is a subject that some people can argue about for hours. In most cases it truly is a personal choice, sometimes based on the amount of storage space a person has and sometimes based on other reasons.

If you choose to hang your T-shirts, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. Place the T-shirt straight on the hanger to avoid wrinkles and avoid it falling off the hanger. Padded hangers are best to avoid bumps and dents in the shoulders of your shirts. Plastic and wooden hangers are acceptable, but wire hangers should be avoided at all cost. Rotate your shirts so that none stay hanging in your closet unused for too long. When you go to use them you will encounter not only hanger dents, but also a line of dust along the shoulders. If you iron your T-shirts, hanging them on a hanger may be the best way to ensure that they remain wrinkle-free.

If you decide to fold your shirts, you need to do so neatly and place them so that they are not overcrowded or stuffed into a small area. In order to keep your shirts from wrinkling, you should fold then properly using the following technique. Hold each sleeve in your hands with the T-shirt facing towards you. Fold the sleeves inward with a crease forming at mid-shoulder. This type of folding will cause the outer sides of the T-shirt torso to fold also. You should now have an almost rectangular shape to fold either in half or in thirds, depending on your own preference and storage space. A plastic folding board may also be a useful thing to have on hand to help ensure neat folding.

One thing to keep in mind with custom-made printed T-shirts that have something big printed on them is to be careful how you fold them. You want to avoid folding the shirt so that print is not folded over on itself. It may stick together a little causing you to pull it apart when the time comes to wear it. Such action over time may cause additional wear and tear on the print and it may not last as long as you would like. You may also want to avoid folding the print itself, especially if it is a large one, because it may have a tendency to hold the crease after you unfold it, meaning you may need to iron the shirt.

Some people even suggest that a good way to store T-shirts is to roll them. This works particularly well if you have a tight space to store them in or if you are packing a suitcase. Simply fold the arms of the T-shirt inward mid-shoulder, like in the folding instructions, and then starting from the tail of the shirt, roll it into a neat cylinder shape.

There is no right or wrong way to store your T-shirts; it is simply what works best for you.  Get yourself some custom-made T-shirts today and try out the different storage techniques to find the one you like best.

Dog Lovers Wear Pictures of their Dogs on T-Shirts

Emily S. loves her Pekingese, Pepper. So much, in fact, that she had her beloved pooch’s picture screened onto a cream-colored T-shirt, which she wears proudly to the local dog park at least once a week.

“It never fails to generate some sort of comment from somebody,” she said. “Either from someone who has a Pekingese of their own or knows someone who does.”
Around 50 million people own dogs in the U.S., and a healthy number of dogs owned are of the pure-bred variety. You know, the ones seen parading around on televised dog shows around the holidays.

Some pure-bred owners keep their pup’s pedigrees in safe storage, and that’s the end of it. Others are involved in online and real-life communities that celebrate certain breeds. However, there are some “Dog Fancy” aficionados who are taking their love for Man’s Best Friend a step further, by designing and donning T-shirts, sweatshirts–even baby onsies–emblazoned with Fido’s face.

You may want to add some graphics to enhance your picture. Food bowls, fire hydrants, bones and frisbees are common additions. You can even include text, such as the name of your dog.

Other variations include:
* Mutt lover
* I didn’t do it
* World’s Best (insert name of breed here)
* My (breed name) is smarter than your honor student
* (Name of your dog) is a happy mutt
* Have you hugged your (breed name) today?

Joel B., owner of Rocco, a Chinese pug, said he sometimes tunes into a dog show to see how the pug is faring in the toy category, but he’s not the type to wear a shirt with Rocco’s picture on it. “Maybe if it was tiny, like the Lacoste alligator or something,” he said. However, that doesn’t stop well-meaning friends and family members from gifting him with T-shirts, ties — even boxer shorts adorned with Rocco’s pug mug. He finally gave in one Christmas and wore the T-shirt to Christmas Eve dinner. But his pug-loving family hardly spared him a glance–they were too busy oohing and aahing over Rocco, who was wearing a doggy T-shirt adorned with Joel’s picture. “We took a lot of pictures that night,” he said.

Plenty of dog owners are sharing their love for their pet to the world by putting their picture on T-shirts. You can order them and once you wear it out and about, get ready to answer all sorts of questions about your dog. Not that you’ll mind, right?

Use T-Shirts for Unique Fundraising Opportunities

Fund-raising. Ugh. There aren’t many hyphenated words that send such a shiver down my spine. I used to really get into it; I always sold the most hoagies and doughnuts for marching band in high school. I even (gasp!) went door-to-door in my old neighborhood selling candles and wrapping paper when I was a 10 year old. I don’t know if it was a lot safer 25 years ago, or if people were more trusting, but out I went, the youngest traveling salesman in the neighborhood. Ironically as an adult, I absolutely despise attending or participating in almost every kind of fund-raising activity. If you feel the same way, but still need some fund-raising ideas, this one just might inspire you to hit the pavement (or at least hit up your family, friends, and coworkers).

How about selling t-shirts as a fund-raiser? Because t-shirts are so cheap to produce and to print on, this is a virtual money-maker that can’t’ lose. Everyone needs clothes, and lots of people hate going to the store. It’s hard to turn down a good bargain, and that’s exactly what a fund-raising t-shirt is–a high-quality article of clothing for a great price. Who wouldn’t like that?

OK, so what’s the hook? Maybe it’s supporting a charity. Every charity has its supporters–from breast cancer research to Alzheimer’s to fair trade to saving the environment–and can always use more funds to continue their work. Hosting a t-shirt drive is one way these organizations can raise money at the local level. Why not buy a t-shirt emblazoned with the symbol of the cause you feel strongly about? You most likely want to get others involved in your charity and buying a t-shirt through a charity fund-raiser is a great way to do it.

What if your kids’ school is trying to raise money for new playground equipment or new books for the library? Selling t-shirts is the way to go! Teachers, especially elementary ones, like for their classes to all wear the same tee on field trips–it makes it easy to identify them in a crowd–and it’s an easy way to raise money for the school. Bearing the name of the school, maybe it’s mascot or theme, and perhaps the school song, this tee is sure to be worn by everyone in the school; students, teachers, staff, administrators, and even parents or grandparents.

Maybe your church’s youth group is hoping to take a trip out of the area to do some mission work or to go to camp. Again, this is a great opportunity to sell some t-shirts. Church congregations are nearly captive audiences to the sales pitch, and are eager to help support the young people who attend their church. Groups of teens who are engaged in something helpful such as a mission trip, or who are staying out of trouble and learning more about their faith are activities that the adults of a church will support. If that means buying a t-shirt or two, there’s no doubt that they’ll do so.

There are many fund-raising opportunities in which selling t-shirts is a great way to go. It’s unique, inexpensive to supply, and cheap to purchase, plus, it gives people something tangible for their support.

Become a Human Billboard – Put a Custom Shirt On!

Back in the day, (well before I was born), folks driving down the road were spared the visual accostment of huge, garish billboards. If a local company wanted to put themselves out there on the road, they did so with smaller, eye-level signs along the road, often spread out over a mile or two, which the driver would read as he came to them. These road signs were usually brief and had the product’s or company’s jingle on them. These days, when we drive down the road, we are accosted by literally hundreds of these signs every day. No matter where you drive, whether it’s along county or city roads or on the big interstates, you will see billboards. You can’t avoid them. They might even flash. Some rotate within themselves, so you can see 3 different messages at one time. All of this is a problem, not to mention the high leasing costs for the billboard space, and getting the whole ad up there in the first place.

Another way companies and business owners try to advertise their businesses or services is to hire people to walk around a street corner wearing a sandwich board. Used to be that the only way to advertise was to find someone willing to wear two heavy boards on each side of their body touting the product and where to find it. Not only is this time consuming, an inefficient use of precious funds, heavy and tiring, but it’s not really that effective; we speed by so fast in our cars that we can barely see what they’re advertising.

Why not just take the message you’d normally put on a billboard or sandwich board on your t-shirt, instead? It makes a lot of sense; it’s cost effective, light and cool, easy to maintain (through it the washer and dryer), and gets the message across without potentially causing major traffic accidents.

Getting some t-shirts printed up is incredibly easy, and pretty cheap, too. Be sure to shop around among different printing shops to get the best price, but you’ll probably find that most of them will quote prices about the same. It costs very little to maintain this “body billboard”. Throwing an extra t-shirt in the wash isn’t going to cost you any extra; it’s just part of what you’d already be washing, and can even save wear on your regular clothes.

Don’t forget about comfort. Especially in the summer, advertising with your body via sandwich boards or even holding up a sign on the corner will quickly cause you to feel incredibly tired and sweaty. It seems a lot easier to me to put on a cool and comfy tee for the day, especially if you’re going to running lots of errands; your fellow shoppers, citizens in line at the post office, or others in the bank are most likely to take the time to read your ad. What’s more, if they have questions about your product or service, they can stop you and ask all they want. You’re right there, and it saves them time and money they’d need to spend to call or look you up online. If you’re wearing a particularly provocative t-shirt, you may cause a couple of crashed shopping carts, but rest easy in the knowledge that there won’t likely be any injuries!

So, take the plunge and get your info on your back. Become the newest “body billboard”.

Is Putting Names on Kids T-shirts Safe?

T-shirts are so much fun. They are great gifts for anyone. Kid’s t-shirts are a blast since you can personalize the shirt with their favorite activities, places and even name. The question is it safe to have your child’s name on a t-shirt then becomes the issue. The problem with having the child’s name right on the shirt is that a stranger then has access to that information without even trying. A less than stellar stranger may use this information to approach your child thus can put your child in danger. Keeping your child protected is one of the main concerns for parents. Letting your guard down over a t-shirt just doesn’t seem worth the risks.

Each parent has the responsibility to protect and teach the kids in their home. Teaching kids about potential dangers can ease your mind a bit, but you must remain vigil in keeping watch. With your child’s name on a t-shirt a stranger could approach your child. Using your child’s real name may confuse your child into thinking that this stranger actually knows him or her. Of course, potential threats can find out this information other ways as well.

Having your child’s name on a t-shirt is cute. Most kids enjoy seeing their names on t-shirts and having other people to acknowledge them personally. If you are uncomfortable with your child’s name on a shirt for fear of a stranger knowing your little one’s name, perhaps there is another alternative. A fun nickname that wouldn’t be a cause for alarm may work great. If you decide to have a name or nickname printed onto your child’s t-shirt you may want to explain to your child about strangers and the potential threat they offer.

Another option if you intend to have your child’s name on the t-shirt is to only allow your child to wear that shirt when you are around and paying attention. Perhaps at birthday parties or family gatherings would be perfect places for your child to wear this prized t-shirt. This might be a great way to please your child since the personalize t-shirt can be worn out but under the strict watch of responsible adults. For large gatherings like family reunions it might also come in handy to have the child’s name on a t-shirt so that everyone will be able to address the child personally and give the child a sense of belonging.

Deciding if it is safe to put your child’s name on a t-shirt is a personal decision that should be made after serious look into the implications. Having your child’s name on a t-shirt might be a great thing, especially if your child loves to have others know his or her name. Of course, the risk of someone dangerous knowing your child’s name by simply reading a shirt can also cause serious problems, so weigh the options carefully. Taking special care to protect your child while still allowing the enjoyment of a personalized t-shirt can be tricky, but worth it.

How to Remove Deodorant Stains from the Underarms of Black T-Shirts

There is nothing quite as noticeable and embarrassing as underarm deodorant stains on a black T-shirt. It always seems to happen when we are in a rush or going somewhere special or with your absolute favorite black T-shirt. To make things worse, it’s not easy to remove such stains and you need to pay particular attention when laundering the item. Below you will find some tips on making sure you get rid of those annoying marks. There are also some emergency tips to get rid of them when you have nothing to change into or have already left home before you realize that you have deodorant streaks.

When washing your black T-shirt, follow these great tips to get rid of deodorant stains.

Option #1
Put ammonia on a cloth or paper towel and apply it to the stain as a treatment to remove the white deodorant stain. Wash as usual. Be careful not to inhale the ammonia.

Option #2
Apply enzyme activated laundry detergent to the stain and let it sit for a while, before laundering the T-shirt in more of the same detergent.

Option #3
Remove the T-shirt as soon as possible to clean it. Pre-treat the area with a commercially made stain treatment or a mixture of liquid laundry detergent and water and gently rub the area. Wash the shirt in the hottest water possible.

Option #4
The environmentally friendly way to remove deodorant stains from black T-shirts is with salt. Wet the area with the stain and pour some table salt on it, rub it into the stain to erase it. Then add a little extra salt to the wash water and wash the shirt as usual. A pricier version, but still environmentally friendly, is to use vodka as a pre-treatment on deodorant stains and rub it in a little. If the stain has been there a while, you may need to let the vodka sit on it for a couple of hours. Wash as usual.

If you need the stain off now because you want to wear the black T-shirt, there is an immediate fix to the problem. Take a black cotton sock and rub the deodorant stain until it comes out. Sounds too easy to be true. Try it and see. Turning the T-shirt inside out and rubbing the deodorant stain with the inside of the fabric will usually remove the stain too. Do not try removing the stain with water and paper towels, because this only leads to disaster. Little white fibers will be stuck to your black shirt from the paper towel and when the water dries the stain will still be there.

So now that you have the inside edge on getting rid of those nasty white streaks that deodorant can leave on your favorite black T-shirt, you are ready to start wearing it every chance you get. Get yourself some new custom-made black T-shirts too, because they are always in style. Then wear them confidently knowing that your deodorant is not ruining your look.

T-Shirts for Dad – Personalized Father’s Day Gift Ideas

Looking for a great Father’s Day gift for the dad who has everything? How about a way to let him know what a great dad he is on his birthday or Christmas? Custom-designed t-shirts are the way to go!

Every dad feels great when he’s appreciated. Showing the love to dad through hugs, kisses, and spending time with him is all good. There are lots of dads out there who would welcome the opportunity to wear a cool tee that shows off to the world how much his kids love him.

Available in almost any color, you can order one for the special dad in your life in his favorite shade. Take a look at the t-shirts he already has; then you’ll know for sure what style he prefers.

The rest is up to you! Lots of young families like to give dad t-shirts with baby’s footprints on the front; this tells everyone dad meets that he’s got a new baby in the house, and he’ll be congratulated. Of course, the tee might also be stained with spit-up after he’s worn it a time or two, but I bet he won’t mind. Another good idea for a dad with young children at home is to make a t-shirt with the kids’ pictures on the front. Witty sayings or captions like “The Hometown Team” can be printed above the photo.

For the dad who likes things understated, you can try a tee that has a smaller design, say where a pocket would be. A small graphic of a trophy surrounded with the words Best Dad Award will be sure to please. You can also choose a design that goes on the back of the t-shirt; some dads might feel more comfortable with the graphics behind him where they aren’t always catching his eye and making him feel more noticeable.

Then, there are some dads who will wear anything, regardless of how understated or how wild the t-shirt is. With these dads, your imagination can really go crazy. Try funny shirts like “My kids rock” or “Superdad!” printed on a Superman logo.

“Behind Every Kid is a Great Dad” is a shirt that will show the world that here walks a dad who puts his family first. Another favorite is “Property of My Kids, 24/7”.

If your family has some special sayings or ways to tell each other “I love you”, you can put that on a t-shirt! As kids grow older, they start to get embarrassed when mom or dad says those three little words in front of their friends. Many parents solve this by coming up with code words that mean the same thing. For example, they might say something like, “You rock” or “Until next time!” This could literally be anything.

Some tees can even show that the wearer of the shirt is a man that loves his country, team, hobby, along with his kids; “World’s Greatest Dad” printed in the style of a baseball pennant is one example.

Getting a t-shirt for dad on Father’s Day, his birthday, or even Christmas is a great, unique way to show the dad in your life how much you love and appreciate him. Have fun!

Honoring the Fallen on Memorial Day – A History of Memorial Day & T-Shirts

T-Shirts have long been a tool for spreading awareness and a billboard for expressing ourselves. On Memorial Day many people choose to wear patriotic t-shirts and create personalized designs to help remember honoring the fallen soldiers. Remembering the men and women, soldiers and civilians, who have died while defending the United States has been a tradition in America since 1863, following the death of hundreds of thousands of soldiers during the War Between the States. Back then, the day of recognition was called Decoration Day, because flowers were placed on the graves of soldiers from both North and South. Started by women, some the wives of government representatives, others within local communities, the tradition became a yearly one.

The idea of recognizing a day to honor fallen soldiers is believed to have begun with a woman named Miss Emma Hunter of Pennsylvania, who appeared at her father’s tomb with flowers in 1864. There, she also met another woman bearing flowers to the grave of her son. The two women agreed to meet the same day the following year in order to again place flowers on their graves, and so Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, is credited with originating Memorial Day. Another legend tells of the creation of Memorial Day taking place as women from Columbus, Mississippi placed flowers upon the graves of both Confederate and Union soldiers in 1866.

In 1865, a suggestion was made to the Commander in Chief of the Grand Army of the Republic for citizens around the country to be able to have access to soldier’s graves on the last day of May for the purpose of “strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country.” Shortly thereafter, ceremonies were held at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, directly across the Potomac River from Washington D.C., where they continue to this day. Though Memorial Day was not officially designated a national holiday until the late 1870’s, observers from towns and cities across the United States observed, recognized and honored veterans of all wars the last day in May. In 1873, New York was the first state in America to officially declare May 30th a legal holiday.

Navy personnel and families created small boats made of flowers and set them afloat at ports on both American coasts to that the tides would carry the flowers out to sea in the hopes that they would eventually find those who had been buried or lost at sea. Towns everywhere celebrate the day with red, white and blue streamers, parades, speeches and events designed to commemorate the sacrifices and loyalty of soldiers, both men and women, who have lost their lives in the continued pursuit of freedom and democracy. Flags, normally raised in front of all government and school buildings, are also raised in front of homes. Cemeteries around the country are decorated with thousands of little flags placed at the headstones of veterans. Military ceremonies performed throughout the country offer cannon and gun salutes to those who have given their all for their country. The playing of Taps in cemetery ceremonies around the nation brings tears to thousands of eyes every year, while white crosses decorated with red poppies or carnations remind all Americans that freedom is neither free nor to be taken for granted.

Schools around the country celebrate Memorial Day with crafts and classroom assignments that ensure that soldier’s contributions to freedom never be forgotten, and many veterans visit classrooms and auditoriums around the country, telling of their experiences during various battles and wars. The Pledge of Allegiance became a daily requirement for American children in schools around the country, serving as a reminder of what it means to be a citizen of one of the greatest countries in the world.

Memorial Day is one of America’s most honored holidays, when all military personnel are recognized and appreciated for their sacrifices and dedication to preserving the ideals of freedom and democracy not only within the United States of America, but around the globe. Honor our soldiers and the people you care about on memorial day with a t-shirt. Some ideas for t-shirts on Memorial day might be a simple flag of the United States or maybe a yellow ribbon with the name of a solider. If you have other ideas for a memorial day t-shirt please let us know.

How to Get Beer Stains Out of T-Shirts

Got beer stains on your favorite T-shirt? What’s a beer lover to do? There are many different recommended ways however some of my personal favorites involve not removing it at all. You can make a note in fabric paint about where you were/what you were doing when you got your beer stain. Wash it as usual without treating the beer stain and then use the tee as your official beer-drinking shirt. You can even mark future beer stains similarly until your T-shirt becomes a souvenir of many a party. If you are serious about removing beer stains though, two popular methods are outlined below.

Technique #1

If you really do want to remove beer stains from your T-shirt, here is one method of how to do so. As soon as possible after the spill occurs, remove the shirt. Rinse it thoroughly with cold water from the inside of the shirt, to remove as much of the stain as possible. Then make a mixture of liquid laundry detergent and cold water and apply it to the beer stain for a minimum of 5 minutes, then rinse. If the stain is still visible, make a mixture of 1 part vinegar with 2 parts of water and apply that to it carefully. Rinse it out immediately because if not, the vinegar will bleach the shirt. Wash as usual, according to the instructions on the tag of the T-shirt.

Technique #2

Another highly recommended method also involves vinegar. Rinse the shirt in cold water as soon as possible after the stain occurs and keep the shirt wet until the stain is gone or you may inadvertently let it set in. Mix together a stain treatment that consists of 2 cups of cold water, 2 tablespoons of white vinegar and 1 teaspoon of dishwashing detergent. The key is choosing the right dishwashing detergent; make sure it is clear or white in color, has no bleach, perfumes, or moisturizers. Lightly apply the mixture to the stain with a white or light-colored cloth. Do not rub it in, as the rubbing action may damage the fabric. Wash as usual. This mixture is a great pre-treatment for most food and beverage stains.

In reality, beer is a relatively easy stain to remove. However, it can be more difficult if it is one of the darker beers, because there is more pigment to remove. Here are some additional beer stain removal tips to keep in mind. You should definitely not use hot water when attempting to remove a beer stain as it will instead cause the stain to set in. Using bar soap also makes it more difficult to remove beer stains, so stick with liquid detergents. Be patient but act quickly and use one of the two techniques described above and in no time, your favorite T-shirt will be beer stain free.

Better yet, get yourself a custom-made T-shirt and have it printed with something fun like “My official beer drinking shirt,” “Ask me where I got these beer stains,” or “Like my clean shirt? Ask me how to remove beer stains.”

History of Father’s Day – T-Shirts have become a Popular Gift Idea for Dad

T-Shirts as gifts have become a big part of Father’s Day so we thought it was appropriate to provide a short history of this special day.

Mrs. Bruce John Dodd of Spokane, Washington spent a Sunday during May of 1909 in church listening to one of the first sermons directed specifically at the celebration of motherhood. She was so taken by the sentiments that she began efforts to generate support for a similar day honoring fatherhood. Her efforts are often credited with the beginning of Father’s Day celebrations in the United States.

Many countries of Roman Catholic leaning celebrate fatherhood on the Feast of Saint Joseph, the day set aside within the church to honor Joseph, the father of Jesus. Obviously, this makes sense considering that during biblical times it was rare for a man to accept, love and nurture a child who was biologically not his own.

For the United States, a secular celebration seemed more appropriate and the idea for the June came from Mrs. Dodd’s suggestion of June 5. The day is actually celebrated on the third Sunday in June, however because organization efforts were not completed in time to hold the national celebration on that suggested date. The first organized celebration happened in her hometown of Spokane in 1910, just one year later than the beginning celebrations for Mother’s Day.

The passing of a bill in support of a national celebration of fatherhood did not occur until many years later however, and gender bias may have been the reason that it took until 1972 for Father’s Day to be declared a national holiday. Traditionally, the Congress was made up of exclusively men and therefore they believed that passing a holiday with the specific intention of honoring men might appear to be a conflict of interest. Therefore, it was not until Richard Nixon’s administration that the day became nationally recognized.

When Mrs. Dodd began her efforts, it was partially because her own father had raised six children without their mother. As a young adult of 27, she had grown to realize the determination, dedication and sacrifice that her father demonstrated in order to present his children with opportunities and love.

Father’s are considered the root and support for society, and their role in guiding their children towards success and virtue is very important to the development of society. Therefore, the establishment of Father’s Day is very important in that it serves to recognize the role of a father within a family and within society as a whole.

Father’s Day is celebrated widely throughout the world, where children of all ages take time to recognize their father’s love and influence and to celebrate fathers in general. Most celebrations include a special dinner and gifts. Naturally, the holiday has become more commercialized than it was ever intended at the beginning.

Because the role and attitude of fathers throughout the world varies tremendously, there is no one specific gift that is given more than others. Of course, the cliché gift of a tie still appears occasionally. Unlike Mother’s Day, where flowers and chocolate are hot sellers, retailers have had to become more creative in their marketing efforts in order to cover all types of dads. Popular gift items do include sports equipment, steak dinners, free car washes by the little ones and of course the t-shirt. The t-shirt has become such a popular gift is that it is easy to create a custom t-shirt that has just the right message for your dad. Father’s Day t-shirts can tell how much you love your father or if you dare you can give him a funny shirt that pokes fun of him. But what is most important is that people everywhere are taking time out of their busy lives to pay attention to their own father and his role in their life.

How to Shrink Your T-shirt

T-shirt shrickMost T-shirts today come pre-shrunk, however there is still a small amount of shrinkage that can still occur. If it shrinks significantly, it shows that the manufacturing quality is probably not very high. Preshrunk is a standard used in good quality T-shirt manufacturing because it tends to provide a more stable finished format and better results with color, printing and size. However, there are times when we buy or are given those T-shirts that have not been preshrunk and they are too large for us. That’s when we want to shrink a T-shirt so that it fits better.

If you are looking to shrink a T-shirt that you have, you first need to look at the fabric content. There are certain fabrics that simply just do not shrink, like acrylic. The majority of T-shirts though are made of cotton or a cotton blend and these do shrink under the right conditions. The trick to shrinking cotton T-shirts is to use lots of heat.

First set your washer for a small load and set the water temperature to hot. If the pre-set temperature on your home’s water heater is more warm than hot, you may want to add some boiling water to the washer also to increase the temperature.

Then add your T-shirt to be shrunk to the wash water and let it proceed through the cycle as usual. Do not put any other clothes in with your T-shirt and use laundry detergent like usual.

As soon as the washer finishes, put it in the dryer on the highest temperature setting possible and leave it there until it is bone dry. Then, let it sit until it cools before removing it. You should have succeeded in reducing it one or two sizes. You may also iron it with a very hot iron, but do not iron outward as you may stretch it.

One thing to keep in mind however is that any clothing item that you shrink at home may not shrink in the ways you want it to. Often the results are uneven or the shirt is too short, or not wide enough or the collar or sleeves didn’t shrink in relation to the shirt. Therefore when you attempt this, the results are always risky and you may not get want you want, leaving you with a T-shirt that doesn’t fit right and doesn’t look good anymore.

If you opt to get a preshrunk T-shirt that is an almost perfect fit, avoid shrinkage by washing it in cold or warm water and drying it on low. If you get a larger shirt than you need for whatever reason and want to shrink it, follow the directions above for the best possible result.

Get yourself a variety of custom-made T-shirts that fit, by ordering online to guarantee that your size is in stock and you’ll never need to shrink a T-shirt again.
