How To Make White T-Shirts Whiter

It seems that white T-shirts are always the ones that get stained, dirty and discolored the quickest and easiest. Inevitably, our favorite ones are always amongst those that don’t look their best. However, you can relax by knowing that there are multiple things that you can do to make your white T-shirts even whiter.

•    Use bleach in your wash cycle with detergent if the T-shirts washing instructions do not warn against chlorine bleach. You may also soak the T-shirt in a mixture of bleach and water for a short period of time before washing it. Be sure to check instructions and do not leave the T-shirt soaking for too long in bleach or you will have a shirt with holes in it.
•    If your T-shirt’s instructions indicate no chlorine bleach, you can opt for color-safe bleach. Pre-treat stains by applying it undiluted to the spot and then soak the T-shirt overnight in a mixture of water and the same color-safe bleach. Wash as usual.
•    Adding bluing to the rinse cycles of your wash will also help to add some of the whiteness back to your favorite white T-shirt. Be careful to dilute it in water first to avoid blue stains on your tee.
•    Hang your favorite white T-shirt outside to dry it. The sun has a natural bleaching effect. Even in winter, white T-shirts will whiten up outside.
•    Vinegar also works as a bleaching agent for clothes. Add it to your wash cycle or soak your clothes in it. It is also very effective in getting rid of odors in T-shirts. Just be sure to not mix vinegar with bleach.
•    Baking soda added to your laundry will also help to whiten your T-shirts. A half-cup with your regular detergent will boost the detergent’s whitening power.
•    A half-cup of hydrogen peroxide added to your washing machine, along with your laundry detergent will also effectively whiten your tees.

Sometimes no matter what you do, your T-shirts will remain looking less than pristine. If you have neglected them for too long, they are too old or have been stained by certain things, there is no going back. If this is the case, you may want to simply replace the T-shirts in question and start off taking better care of the new ones. If you have a T-shirt that is unique, full of memories or a favorite for some other reason, you can get it recreated perfectly by opting for a custom-made T-shirt.

When investing in new white T-shirts, ordering custom-made ones ensures that they say exactly what you want them to. You get to choose the style, fit and quality of the T-shirts too , which means they will inevitably be amongst the more favored shirts in your wardrobe, earning them more attention and care. Keep your new white T-shirts clean and super white by using the above tips regularly and they will stay looking their best much longer.

What To Do If Your Iron Stains Your Shirt

Stains on a T-shirt can turn a great looking tee into one that is your official house cleaning shirt. Stain removal is one of the biggest concerns for T-shirt owners, as stains happen so easily. Eating, cooking, working, playing and even caring for your shirt can result in stains that are hard to remove.

Leaving water in an iron often leads to rust in its water reservoir. When the same iron is used to press your clothes, whether with the old water still sitting in it or with fresh water, the rust can taint the water, which will then transfer onto clothes that are being ironed with it. Telltale rust spot stains stand out like a sore thumb and look hideous. To make matters worse, the heat of the iron helps to set the stain in quickly, so it is critical to deal with such stains right away. Luckily, there are several ways to get the problem under control.

An all-natural method of treating rust stains from your iron is as follows:
•    Soak the item in a 1 to 5 parts mixture of vinegar and water overnight.
•    Wash the shirt as usual.
•    Inspect the item to be sure the stain is gone before drying it, as drying often sets the stain permanently.

If this method does not work for you or you wish to treat the stain more aggressively, the following steps are recommended.
•    Immediately take the T-shirt and pre-treat it with a product especially made for harsh stains, such as from rust and other mineral deposits. Such treatments may be specifically for laundry or may be for general cleaning purposes, but work well for laundry also.
•    Follow the directions carefully for using commercial rust-removal products, as many such products are very toxic.
•    If no instructions are given, soak the T-shirt in this pre-treatment for about 15 to 30 minutes. Gently rub the product into the spot.
•    Wash as usual and inspect it to make sure the stain is gone. If the stain persists, repeat the process leaving it on the stain longer.
•    Do not dry the shirt until you are sure the iron stain is out.

If all else fails and you are stuck with a permanent stain on your T-shirt from your iron, rest assured that you do have a couple of last ditch solutions. You can camouflage the stain by having something printed over it or dying the whole T-shirt a darker color so the stain blends in.

Another alternative is to get yourself a replacement T-shirt exactly like the one you have ruined. A custom-made T-shirt can be made to exactly replicate your stained one. You can have it printed any way you would like, choose any color you want and even select the style and quality. In fact a new custom-made T-shirt is usually even better than the one you ruined.

How Do I Get the Smell Out of My T-Shirt?

Over time, anyone can end up with a t-shirt that smells bad and resists your attempts to get the smell out of it. The smell can occur because of excessive sweat, the odor of food or the specific smells of the workplace. If the smells don’t come out when the t-shirt is washed with the rest of the laundry, there are several ways to get rid of the offensive smell.

One of the easiest things to do is to hang the t-shirt on a clothesline outdoors to try to rid it of the smell. If you don’t have one, simply hang the shirt over your patio or balcony railing and let the fresh in their blow through your t-shirt. This can go a long way toward giving the t-shirt a fresher smell. Once you have done this, there may be some lingering odors left. If so, you’ll need to soak the t-shirt in something that will lift the odor from the fabric. Using a regular, scented laundry detergent will not necessarily remove the odor. Often, detergents just work to mask the odor with a new fragrance rather than ridding the t-shirt of it. So, when the detergent fragrance wears off, the bad odor is left behind. There are several substances that will rid the t-shirt of its odor without simply masking it.

Vinegar is a good rinse for a t-shirt that smells. You can use vinegar to soak the t-shirt for a few minutes before washing it in the laundry, or you can add a little bit of vinegar to the laundry detergent in the washer. Vinegar is extremely efficient at stripping odors from fabric. It may end up with a vinegar smell afterward, and the t-shirt may need to be washed again after the vinegar has done its work.

Baking soda is another great substance that can be used to pull the smell from a t-shirt. When mixed with water, it can be used as a presoak for your t-shirt. The shirt should be soaked in a solution for about half an hour and then put into the laundry as usual. Another way to use baking soda is to add a cup of it into the laundry along with the detergent. This can be extremely effective at removing foul odors from laundry.

Another method is to use a fabric softener to absorb the odor. To do this, take the t-shirt and one or two fabric softener sheets, depending on how bad the odor of the t-shirt is, and seal them together in a plastic bag. Keep the t-shirt in the bag with the softeners for two weeks. Once you remove the t-shirt, the fabrics softener sheets will have absorbed most, if not all, of the odor from the t-shirt. If there is any odor left in the shirt, try this method again with brand-new fabric softener sheets. After two weeks, you’ll be left with a sweet smelling t-shirt that has not simply been masked with a fragrance. The offensive odor will actually have been absorbed by the sheets.

How to Remove Condiments From Your T-Shirt

Condiments are items that can mean a lot of trouble for clothing because of their very nature. They are generally both drippy and thick, and because of this they often end up on t-shirts as well as other articles of clothing. One of the main problems with condiments, however, is that they are brightly colored and therefore can be difficult to get out of fabric.

Mustard and ketchup are generally the most commonly used condiments, and because they are fairly thin, it’s easy to stain t-shirts with drops of mustard and ketchup. Other condiments such as hot sauce and pickle relish can also create very difficult stains and t-shirts. When you first get a stain from one of these condiments, start blotting them away from the t-shirt as quickly as you can. Use whatever you have on hand such as a napkin or paper towel. If there is a lot of the condiment on your shirt, start with a butter knife to scrape it away from the t-shirt. Get as much of it away from the t-shirt you can before you attempt to treat the fabric.

Take off the t-shirt and put it under cold running water. Make sure the water is running directly through the stain. Don’t use a trickle of water – make sure the water is running swiftly ordered to power of the stain out of the fabric. If the condiment stain is fairly fresh, the cold water should take much of it out of the t-shirt. Rub the fabric together under the cold running water in order to force more of the condiment out of the fabric. If it is a fresh stain and this method gets most of the condiment out of the T-shirt, you can then soak it in cold water for a while. Simply fill up the sink with cold water, put the t-shirt in there and push it down to the bottom to make sure that air bubbles don’t force the t-shirt to the surface. The entire t-shirt needs to stay under the water for best results.

Soaking a new condiment stain in cold water should remove the stain completely and the t-shirt can then be washed in the laundry with other clothing. Use cold water and a strong detergent to make sure all of the stain is out of your t-shirt. For white t-shirts, put a little bit of bleach into the wash with the t-shirt. For colored t-shirts, use color-safe bleach only. Don’t use a detergent that contains ammonia or you may cause the stain to set into the fabric permanently.

If you’re condiment stain is very old, it may take a professional to get it out completely. You can try a pre-treating stick or spray and letting it soak into the condiment stain before washing the shirt. If it still doesn’t come out, there are home dry-cleaning kits that may work better. If these also fail, take the t-shirt to a reliable dry cleaner can ask whether they can remove condiment stains.

How to Brighten Your White T-Shirt?

Over time, any white t-shirt can start looking dingy and dull. Some may even turn a shade of yellow or gray. Some end up having a brown tinge because of age. Though it is normal for this to happen over time, there is no reason to live with a dingy t-shirt. There are several ways to brighten a white t-shirt and to make it look more like it did when it was brand new, clean and white.

Bleach is the most obvious answer for brightening a white t-shirt. However, bleach is a very strong substance and can be extremely harsh on fabrics. If you want to use bleach, use it sparingly and not very often. Perhaps use a small amount of bleach in the wash every other time you wash your white t-shirt. This will brighten it up without making the fabric brittle. One way to keep the amount of bleach that you use low is to add both baking soda and bleach to the laundry. The baking soda will give the bleach a boost and allow you to use less of the bleach.

Hydrogen peroxide is another chemical that is very effective at brightening white t-shirts. You can use bottled hydrogen peroxide on your t-shirt as a presoak and then wash the t-shirt in the laundry. Hydrogen peroxide can also be mixed with a little bit of baking soda and used in a pre-treating paste for the t-shirt. This paste is spread over the t-shirt to whiten and brighten it.

Lemon juice is another inexpensive and time tested method for brightening white clothing. Lemon juice can be used as a presoak or a pre-treating liquid for the t-shirt. If you are using it is a presoak, mix lemon juice and water and let the t-shirt soak before you launder it. If you want to use it is a pre-treating solution, put lemon juice diluted with a small amount of water directly on a dull area of the t-shirt before washing just as you would with a commercial pre-treating product.

With lemon juice, you can also add it directly to your washing machine. To do this, take 1 cup of lemon juice and add it to your washing machine during the rinse cycle. This is a way to bleach your t-shirt lightly with out damaging it.

Washing soda is a substance that is known to make whites a lot whiter than most commercial laundry detergents. Washing soda is used in a washing machine just like detergent. It doesn’t need any extra detergent and it is considered safer for the environment than many laundry detergents.

Perhaps the easiest method of whitening a white t-shirt is simply to bleach it out with solar power. Sound complicated? It couldn’t be easier. It’s done by simply laying the T-shirt out in the sunlight and allowing the sun to bleach it clean. It may take a few days to get the desired effect on your t-shirt, but it’s free and it’s easy to do. Be sure to flip the t-shirt periodically so that both sides get bleached by the sun.

How Do I Remove Red Kool-Aid From My T-Shirt?

Anyone with children has had Kool-Aid spilled on them at one time or another. The key to keeping your clothing intact is to learn how to get the Kool-Aid stains out of your clothing effectively. Because Kool-Aid is so heavily pigmented, Kool-Aid stains are legendarily difficult to remove. Red stains in particular are one of the hardest colors to get out of fabric. Red Kool-Aid binds to the fibers of the fabric and makes it difficult to get the stain completely out of the t-shirt.

If the shirt is white, the easiest thing to do is to apply a small amount of bleach to the affected area. You can do this by pouring bleach into the cap and then pouring it over the stain. The bleach will have to sit for 15 minutes or more before you will see very much improvement in the stain. After that time, if the bleach has not taken the stain out of the t-shirt, try rinsing the bleach out and beginning again.

If the t-shirt is a different color, it will be much more complicated to get the red stain out of the fabric. How well the stain comes out generally depends on how quickly you start treating the fabric. To begin with, try to rinse out as much of the stain as you can. Put the stained area of the fabric under the faucet and run cold water straight through the t-shirt. This will loosen up the Kool-Aid that has not bonded with the fabric.

Once you have rinsed the area, you can start pre-treating it. This is an important step before you wash the t-shirt. You have a much greater chance of getting the stain out if it is treated before putting it through the laundry. There are many pre-treatment sprays, sticks and liquids that you can use to try to get the rest of the Kool-Aid out of the fabric. Apply one of these treatments and let the t- shirt sit flat for at least as long as recommended on the pre-treatment package.

If this doesn’t completely remove the stain, it will at least lighten it quite a bit if the stain is new. Once you have done this, you may need to rinse the pre-treatment substance away from the t-shirt. Read the directions to find out whether you must rinse it before laundering the shirt. If not, you can put directly into the laundry.

When you do wash the t-shirt in the laundry, be sure to use only cold water. If there is any part of the stain still lingering, using hot water will bind it completely to the fabric and make it extremely difficult to ever lighten it again. If you use cold water and the t-shirt comes out of laundry with some of the stain still left on it, you can try pre-treating it and laundering it again for better results. You may find that after two or even three times of pre-treating and washing, the stain is removed completely from the t-shirt.

How to Remove Candle Wax From a T-Shirt or Clothing

Candle wax spilled on t-shirt may seem like it would be impossible to remove. It ruins the look of the t-shirt, and it even changes its texture of the shirt in the area were it was spilled. You may think that your t-shirt is now beyond repair, but there are several methods of getting the wax off a t-shirt. If you can get any of the wax off while it is still pliant and warm, take off as much as you can. This can be difficult however, because as soon as the wax is cool enough to handle it will get stiff very quickly. Once the wax is hardened there are two main methods of getting the wax out. One way to do it is to use heat and the other is to use cold.

If you take the t-shirt and put it in the freezer for an hour or two, the cold will freeze the wax. Once the wax is frozen, you can break it much the way you would break glass. If the wax is very thick, use a hammer to break it up into pieces and then discard the pieces. If it is thinner, rolling the frozen portion of the shirt should break the wax up and make it easier to get rid of the frozen pieces.

The other primary way of getting rid of wax on a t-shirt is to use heat. You can use heat by placing the t-shirt into boiling water to loosen the wax. This will heat the wax enough to make it make it liquid again and it should float to the top of the pot of water. When this happens, skim the liquid wax from the top of the water to keep it from settling back on the shirt once you take the shirt from the water. Once the water has cooled, pour out the water and check t-shirt for any remaining wax once it is cool enough to touch. It may need to be boiled again or at a higher temperature if there is still wax left on the shirt.

Another way to use heat is to turn the t-shirt inside out, put sheets of newspaper inside the shirt and lay the shirt and newspapers flat. Then, take a hot iron and iron the t-shirt. Don’t use the steam setting for this method- only heat. The iron will melt the wax which will then be soaked up by the newspaper. Using an old towel instead of a newspaper will also work for this method.

If you try any of these methods and still can’t get the very smallest pieces of wax out of the fibers, you can use a needle to dislodge those pieces. This is often easier if the wax has been frozen first. Then, simply sit and push the tiny parts of wax out of the fabric with the needle. This is painstaking work, however, and it’s easier to try to get the wax out with the other methods.

How to Remove Lipstick From Your T-Shirt

Lipstick can be a frustrating staying to get a t-shirt. One reason that can be so frustrating is that it’s an embarrassing stain to have on a shirt. Once you have lipstick on a t-shirt, your first instinct is probably to get rid of it as soon as possible, and your instincts are correct. The quicker you can get it out, the more complete a removal job will be able to do.

Rubbing alcohol is extremely useful for getting rid of lipstick stains. The key to using rubbing alcohol properly is to use just enough to get the job done without causing an additional stain in the fabric. Put a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a soft cloth and use it to dab gently at the lipstick stain. Never rub harshly at the fabric or you risk damaging the fibers. Keep dabbing lightly until you see some of the lipstick begin to come away from the t-shirt. Repeat this process with a different part of the cloth in order to keep lipstick from getting back onto the t-shirt.

If the rubbing alcohol doesn’t get all the lipstick out of the t-shirt, there are a few other ways to get the job done. Dishwashing detergent is a good, inexpensive way to get the stain out. Put a little bit of liquid dishwashing soap onto your finger and rub it gently across the lipstick stain. You may want to try rubbing the fabric against itself several times in order to get the dishwashing detergent deep into the fibers. Let the dishwashing detergent soak into the t-shirt for little while before rinsing it out with cold water. Rub the fabric against itself under the cold running water for the best results.

Another quick method is to use a pre-treating stain stick. These are specifically made for treating stubborn stains that may not come out in the wash without special treatment. To use these, choose either a stick or a spray pre-treating detergent. When using a spray, lay the fabric on top of a towel and spray the pre-treating soap directly onto the stain. Let the spray sit in the fabric until you see results. If you choose a stain stick, rub it gently into the stain until you see that it is coating all of the lipstick that is still on the t-shirt. Allow it to sit on the shirt until you can see that some of the lipstick is gone.

No matter which type of pre-treatment detergent you use, the t-shirt must be washed after the treatment. The pre-treating stain may not get rid of all of the lipstick, but there is still hope. If any is left behind, washing it in the washing machine may take the rest of it out. Just be sure to use cold water in the wash or you may set the stain into the fabric. If you remove your t-shirt from the wash and there is still some lipstick left, repeat these procedures again and you may find that your t-shirt looks as good as it did before your lipstick troubles.

How to Clean a Chocolate Stain From a T-Shirt

Chocolate can be a very difficult thing to get out of t-shirt. It is sticky and thick, making it easy for chocolate to attach itself to fabric. Unless it is removed properly, chocolate can ruin a t-shirt. But with a little effort, it is possible to get all of the chocolate out of your t-shirt.

Once chocolate is spilled on a y-shirt, it’s important to quickly remove as much as possible. You may need to scrape away some the chocolate to remove it from the fabric. To do this, use a brush to scrub away as much chocolate as possible. Use a scrub brush or tooth brush to scrub the fabric in just one direction rather than back and forth. This will minimize the amount of damage that can occur to the fabric. This will lift away some of the chocolate. To keep it away from your t-shirt, press a cotton cloth into the stain to take away the chocolate you have lifted out.

Once you get the excess chocolate out of the fabric, you’ll need to get the rest of it out. To do this, you will need a strong cleaner that can lift the stain away from the fibers. Washing powder is a good, neutralizing substance that can be extremely good for moving this type of stain. You can make a paste out of equal parts of water and washing powder. Press this mixture into the fabric and brush it into the fibers. Then, let the mixture sit and soak into the fabric. This will allow the washing powder to separate the chocolate from the fibers.

When this is completed, wash away the mixture with very cold water. Using hot water can set the stain if any chocolate is left behind. Once you have washed in cold water, try a pre-treating stain solution if any chocolate has remained behind. Let that solution sits on the t-shirt for as long as the directions indicate. Then, wash it in the laundry as usual.

If the chocolate spills on a white t-shirt, it is much easier to remove the chocolate stain. Simply use a small amount of bleach directly on the t-shirt to remove the stain. Using a small amount that is applied with a cotton swab will keep you from applying too much bleach. Bleach can weaken fabrics, so it’s best to use as little as possible. Use the cotton swab to paint the bleach all over the stain. Allow the T-shirt to sit for at least 15 minutes in order to let the bleach do its work.

Check on the t-shirt periodically to make sure it that the stain is fading. You may need to add slightly more bleach if any chocolate remains on the shirt. Once the chocolate stain has faded, rinse the bleached area in cold water and wash the t-shirt in the laundry on cold. If you have used bleach, be sure to wash your t-shirt only with other whites to avoid bleaching the other clothing.

How Do You Get Vaseline (petroleum jelly) Out of a T-Shirt?

Vaseline is a thick, oily substance that can leave any t-shirt with an oil stain even after it’s been washed several times. This may make you want to throw out your t-shirt in frustration, but there are ways to get rid of the Vaseline stain and to make a t-shirt look as good as it did before.

The first step in removing the Vaseline is to remove the part of it that is not entwined with the fabric. Use a butter knife, spoon or other stiff, dull surface to scrape the Vaseline off the t-shirt. After this is done, much of the Vaseline will be removed. The oil that is left behind must be washed out of the fabric.

One reason that washing a t-shirt does not get Vaseline out is that normal dishwashing detergent is simply not effective against something that oily. To get the grease out of the fabric, you need something specially formulated to remove grease. One of the least expensive ways to do this is to buy a dishwashing detergent like Dawn. By using liquid Dawn, you can lift the grease out of the fabric before washing it in regular detergent.

To do this, rub a little bit of Dawn into the grease spot. The amount of liquid that you use will depend on the size of the stain. Rub the fabric back and forth, getting the detergent deep into the fabric. Once you’ve done this, let the t-shirt sit for a few minutes to allow the detergent to soak through. Rinse the Dawn out of the fabric with hot water. Then, run the t-shirt through the laundry in hot water. If this does not remove all of the Vaseline, repeat the process to remove the rest of it.

In addition to Dawn, there are a few other products that are made to remove oil and grease. Shout makes a pre-treating product that is used in much the same way as Dawn. Simply apply it to the stain, rub it into the fabric and let it sit for a while before washing.

WD-40 is another product that some people have used with success remove Vaseline. It can be used as a pre-treatment just before you use Dawn detergent on the t-shirt. Some people find that this allows the Dawn to remove more of the Vaseline from the t-shirt. After using the WD-40 followed by the Dawn, wash the t-shirt in hot water.

Another method is to use isopropyl alcohol to dry out the oil and to allow it to be washed away from the fabric. Also known as rubbing alcohol, this substance will immediately start to break the oil down, allowing you to rinse it away. To use isopropyl alcohol, pour a little bit of alcohol over the stain and rub the fabric together. Once you have done this, run water through the fabric to lift out the oil. If there is some oil left still left on the t-shirt, repeat the process. The t-shirt can then be washed in the laundry.

How to Get Clothes Soft Without Using Fabric Softener

Getting clothing soft is one of the most sought-after effects of washing and drying clothes. However, fabric softener is avoided by many people who have sensitive skin or who don’t like the smell of most fabric softeners. Some people also have concerns about the chemicals used in fabric softeners and what their possible effects on health and the environment may be. To solve this problem, there are ways to get soft clothing without using harsh chemicals as fabric softeners.

Vinegar is a substance long known to soften clothing. It is inexpensive and it is a completely natural substance. To use vinegar as a natural fabric softener, use plain white vinegar. Wash the clothing as usual and wait for the first rinse cycle. Then, during the beginning of this cycle, add about a cup of the vinegar to the clothing. This will soften the clothing without leaving any harsh residue, and it will be rinsed out during the final rinse at the end of the washing cycle.

Another method is to use less detergent on the clothing. Stiff clothing is sometimes caused by simply using too much detergent. This can leave residue in the clothing that makes them feel stiff or heavier than they should be. If your clothing often feels like this, experiment with how much detergent you really need. Cut the detergent in half and see if the clothing still comes out clean. If so, it will likely feel far softer than it did when you were using double that amount.

To get a fast softening effect, try ironing the clothes with steam and then rolling up the clothing. This keeps the humidity in the clothing and keeps it softer. After about 10-15 minutes, the clothing will have cooled and will be soft and ready to wear.

Another easy method to add a little softness is to always use the second rinse on your machine. Many people overlook the second rinse or don’t think it’s necessary to use it. However, a second rinse will get more detergent residue out of the clothing and will take out any small particles of dirt that have been left behind. This will leave the clothing in the load feeling far softer than if they had been denied that final rinse.

Baking soda is used by some people to soften their clothing. This can be used in several ways. It can be used as a substitute for the detergent, though this might not get rid of all the dirt and grime that detergent would. It can also be added along with the regular detergent. This allows the detergent to do its job, but it will keep clothing softer at the same time.

If you dry your clothing on a clothes line, this will contribute to stiffer clothing. To make the clothing softer, use a dryer. It may be more expensive to use than using a clothes line, but using a drier will make a big difference in the way the clothing will feel against your skin.

What to Do If You Spill Bleach on Your Colored T-Shirt

Have you had an accident with bleach?  Spilling bleach on a colored T-shirt may seem like a death sentence for that T-shirt. You may be tempted to throw it out because you don’t see any other way to fix the T-shirt and create something that is wearable again. And if you do choose to go that route, you still have something that you can use when you don’t want to throw it out. You have a T-shirt that is one that you can use to sleep in, to do messy chores in, or to wash the car in. You might even use it to clean certain household objects that need a soft touch such as eyeglass lenses.

However, if you are not resigned to using the T-shirt for any of these purposes, there are still a few things you can do to save the T-shirt and to be able to wear it out in public again. One of the most obvious things that can be done in this situation is to simply bleach the rest of the T-shirt so that the entire shirt will match. You can do this by soaking the T-shirt in a tub with water and bleach, or you can wash the T-shirt by itself or with a load of white laundry with bleach. The bleach will turn the entire T-shirt white. It will not look the same as the T-shirt did before you spilled the bleach on it, but it will be a T-shirt that is all one color and very wearable and it will still fit the same as it did before.

If you don’t want the T-shirt to become a white T-shirt, there are a couple of options. If the T-shirt color was originally light, you might be able to dye the entire T-shirt and to end up with the same T-shirt in a darker shade. The darker color will ensure that the entire T-shirt is dyed the color. Trying to dye the T-shirt a lighter color will clash with the original color and create a mottled look.

If you are determined to keep the T-shirt all one color but you don’t want it to the bleach completely white, there is another option. You can began with the T-shirt that has a bleach stain and continue bleach it until the entire T-shirt is white.  Make sure to rinse that T-shirt very thoroughly before attempting the next step. Once it has been rinsed and all the bleach has been removed, you can dye it a different color. Because the entire T-shirt is white, is a blank canvas that is just waiting to accept a new color. When you do this, you can choose any color at all. You can pick a pastel or another light color, or you can try to find a fabric dye that very closely matches the original color of the T-shirt.  This will get you back your T-shirt the way it was before you had the bleach accident, or it will at least get it to a shade that is very much like it.

How to Remove Tea Stains From T-Shirts?

A tea stain can seem like a terrible stain to try to get out of the T-shirt, but there are far worse stains that people are able to remove. A tea stain on a T-shirt does not have to mean that the T-shirt must be thrown away. There are many ways to get the stain out of the T-shirt and to get it looking the way it did before the tea was spilled. In other words, there’s no reason to cry over spilt tea.

One of the most important things to remember with any type of stain is to treat that stain as fast as you are able to treat it. That means getting to it quickly and treating it before it has the opportunity to set too deeply into the fabric. Once a stain gets set into the fabric, it becomes much more difficult to get it out again. If you have a stain that has not been on the T-shirt for very long, there’s a much higher chance of being able to get it out.

If the spill just happened, take off the T-shirt and rinse it with very cold water. If the stain is a small, you may be able to put water on the T-shirt while you are still wearing it. Otherwise, take it off and run it under the faucet or in a cold stream or whatever source of cold water is most convenient at the time. If you don’t have a source of cold water, use hot water if you have it. Hot water can have the unfortunate effect of setting the stain if the tea has been on the T-shirt for very long, however. So if it has been more than a few minutes since the tea was spilled, don’t try hot water.

A fresh stain will generally respond very well to cold water. If rinsing the T-shirt in cold water doesn’t get rid of the tea, try soaking it in a tub of cold water for several minutes.  This should release much of the tea. If that still doesn’t work, use a laundry spray to try to lift the tea out of the T-shirt before it sets into the fabric. These sprays are high-powered detergents that will pre-treat the stain and lift much of it away before the T-shirt is washed. Once you have pretreated the stain according to the label of the spray, wash the T-shirt in the laundry as soon as possible.

Use cold water to wash the T-shirt, even if it looks like most of the tea stain has been taken out of the fabric. If there is any of the tea still left in the cotton, using warm or hot water can cause it to bind permanently to the fabric. This can make it impossible to remove the stain without using bleach. If the T-shirt is a plain white shirt, or if the tea lands on a plain white portion of the T-shirt, bleach is another alternative to getting the stain out. Using a small amount of bleach can lift the stain away and make the T-shirt look just the way it did before.

How to Remove Red Wine Stains From my T-Shirt

Red wine is deeply-pigmented liquid that can easily ruin any type of clothing if the stain is not taken care of the right way. Most methods for removing red wine only work if the stain is treated soon after the spill. Once the wine sets into the fabric, or has been dried into it, it can be very difficult to get it out of a t-shirt.

Putting a t-shirt with a red wine stain on it into the washing machine without some type of pre-treatment will generally not be successful. If the spill just happened, blot the stain with anything you have available. A paper napkin, a cotton towel or even an older t-shirt that you never wear anymore will be absorbent enough to get much of the red wine out of a fresh spill. The more you can blot out of the spill, the better the outcome will be for your t-shirt.

Once you can’t blot anymore of the wine, start a pre-treatment. There are a number of commercial pretreatments on the market that can be used to soak the t-shirt in, or a pre-treatment stick or spray can put the treatment right onto the stain. To make a difference against red wine stains, the stained area will have to soak for at least several minutes to lift some of the wine out of the fabric.

If this treatment isn’t successful at lifting some of the stain out of the t-shirt, there are a few alternative treatments. The pre-treatment solution can be mixed with about a teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent and a cup of hydrogen peroxide. If you don’t have any liquid detergent on hand, liquid dish soap will work just as well. Mix these items together and soak the affected area of the t-shirt in it for at least 10 minutes. If the t-shirt is a bright color, you might try a color test with the hydrogen peroxide before soaking the shirt. This can be done my applying a small dot of the peroxide to a small portion of the t-shirt to make sure that the chemical will not strip the intended color out of the t-shirt.

Once the treatment has soaked into the fabric for the required amount of time, rinse the area thoroughly with cold water. If the stain doesn’t seem to be lifting, let the t-shirt soak in very cold water for about 10 minutes. This will likely remove some of the wine if the stain isn’t too old.

For an older stain on a light-colored t-shirt, using regular laundry bleach should get the wine stain out of the t-shirt. This works well on a white t-shirt, but a light colored shirt that isn’t white may still have a noticeable mark, though it will be less noticeable than the wine stain would have been. To apply the bleach, use a laundry bleach pen or use a cotton swab to dab a little bleach onto the wine-stained area. After a few minutes, rinse it away with cold water and wash the t-shirt in the washing machine.

How to Fix a Hole in Your T-Shirt

A hole can be a serious problem with a t-shirt, or it might be nothing more than a minor inconvenience. The extent of the problem is usually related to how large the hole in the t-shirt is and where exactly on the shirt it is located.

If the hole is located on a seam, it is the easiest type of hole to fix. To fix it, simply turn the garment inside out and sew a line across the seam to close up the hole. To do this, match up the thread color to the thread that was originally used to sew up the seams on the t-shirt. This is usually the same color as the t-shirt, but that isn’t always true. Take a look at the thread first to make sure.

If the hole is small, thread the matching thread through a small needle and knot the end of the thread. Then, pinch the seam together so that it looks the way it should look after the repair is done. Then, sew through both parts of the shirt that go together to make the seam. Continue doing this until the hole in the seam is closed up. Knot the thread at the end of the stitches and cut off the thread. The t-shirt should look just like it did before the hole formed.

If the hole is not located at the seam it can be a little more complicated. The thread must exactly match the color of the t-shirt in order to allow the stitches to blend into the shirt as well as possible. Even if the t-shirt is white, this may mean matching the t-thread to the exact shade of white that is used in the t-shirt. If the hole is very small, turn the t-shirt inside out and make a few very small stitches in order to close up the hole.

If the hole is larger and is not on a seam, use a sewing machine for a better effect on the t-shirt. The t-shirt should be turned inside out before you begin. Then, load the matching thread into the sewing machine. Use the zigzag stitch to close up the hole. Place the sewing machine needle into the fabric located at the top part of the hole. Then, use the zigzag stitch to close up the hole until you get to the other side of it. Once you reach the other side, reverse directions and use the zigzag stitch all the way back to the other end of the hole. This will create tight stitching that will barely be noticeable in most cases.

If you aren’t as concerned about the hole or the stitching being visible, consider fixing the hole with a patch. There are a number of different kinds of patches available, and they can be ironed on in just a few minutes. A large hole that could take a long time to mend with stitches will take considerably less time to fix with a patch. And, the t-shirt will be one that is different and unique.

Baking soda

How to Soften and Whiten Laundry by Using Baking Soda

Baking sodaBaking soda is an inexpensive substance that is easy to find in any grocery store and general merchandise store. It has a million uses in the home, but one of the most useful of these is likely its power to soften clothing and make white clothes whiter. If a home has hard water, baking soda is especially helpful in keeping clothing from becoming stiff from the hard water residue.

Baking soda is a mildly alkali substance, making it a perfect natural detergent. It doesn’t come with any harsh chemicals like artificial fragrances and it is generally safe to be used by people with sensitive skin. There are several ways that baking soda can be used in the washing machine to make clothing softer and to whiten whites.

One of the easiest methods of using baking soda to keep clothing softer and brighter is to add about half a cup of baking soda during the rinse cycle. This works in much the same way that a liquid fabric softener would work in the wash.

Another way to use baking soda is to use it as a part of the detergent. This is done in order to brighten clothes and keep the whites looking whiter. This can be done by simply substituting a cup of baking soda for the detergent you would usually use. This can also be done by using baking soda as a part of a homemade detergent. By mixing a ¼ cup of baking soda with ½ cup of white vinegar, you can make an effective washing liquid that will treat most stains but will leave clothes softer than if a regular detergent is used.

A pre-treat solution can also be used for whites that will keep them brighter. Mix ½ cup of white vinegar with ½ cup of ammonia and ¼ cup of baking soda. Mix in about two quarts of water and two spoonfuls of regular liquid hand soap and you will have an extremely effective pre-treat solution that can be used for treating whites before they are washed. To use this, the solution can be sprayed onto the clothing stains and left to soak for about 10 minutes before washing. Or, the clothing can be rinsed in the solution before being rinsed with water and placed into the wash. This will work to keep white clothes brighter than if they

If you are using bleach to whiten whites, it can make clothing somewhat stiffer than regular detergent. To counteract this effect, add a little baking soda into the bleach to keep the clothing softer. This will also give the bleach a little boost and will result in even whiter whites.

To work on tough stains on whites, scrub the area with baking soda. To do this, make a paste from the baking soda a little bit of water. Take the paste and scrub it into the stain with a small scrub brush or an old toothbrush. Avoid scrubbing too hard, however, or you may scrub a hole into the fabric. Once this is completed, wash the clothing as usual.

Wash cycle

How to Choose the Right Wash Cycle When Washing Your T-Shirt

Wash cycle

Washing a t-shirt sounds like something that should be simple, but choosing the right wash cycle is important for keeping the t-shirt both clean and looking like new for as long as possible. The proper washing cycle will depend a lot on how dirty the t-shirt is, what type of stains it has on it and how old the t-shirt is. It also depends on what the color of the t-shirt is.

A brightly-colored t-shirt might benefit from a slower washing cycle than a white t-shirt or one with a pastel color. Vigorous washing can fade a t-shirt color faster than if the washing cycle is slower. Cotton t-shirts don’t generally require a delicate cycle, but a bright t-shirt might benefit from a slow cycle to keep the color bright.

If a t-shirt is a white one or one with a lighter color, the wash cycle will not be as important for keeping the t-shirt’s color. The color still may fade, however, if it is washed in the fastest washing speed many times. To help extend the color and the life of the t-shirt, try to change the washing speed between gentle cycles and faster washing cycles. This will keep the t-shirt looking newer longer while still giving it the occasional vigorous cleaning.

The color of a white t-shirt generally will not be affected much by a fast washing cycle. It may fade the white slightly, but as long as the t-shirt is being washing with other white clothing items, the color should remain white for as long as you have the t-shirt. The fast cycle won’t have much affect on the color of a white shirt, but it may have an effect on how long the t-shirt lasts. The shirt may become covered with pills, tiny balls, if it is washed too many times on the fastest washing cycle. The cotton may also become thinner if it is always washed this way.

Unless a white t-shirt is extremely dirty or smells badly, using the same technique of switching the washing cycle between the fastest cycle and a slow washing cycle will extend the life of the t-shirt. It will keep the material from thinning as much and allow the t-shirt more life than if it is always washed on the fastest cycle.

If a t-shirt is extremely dirty, the fast cycle may be the only one that works well to remove the dirt and grime. This is often true if the stains are hard to get out. Grass stains and blood stains may require the use of the fastest cycle in order to loosen these stains. If the t-shirt is only slightly dirty, a slow cycle will work fine to loosen the dirt. It might even be cleaned just as well as if the t-shirt is rinsed out in the sink with some gentle soap. A quick hand wash in the sink will give the t-shirt a longer life and keep the t-shirt from developing pills or faded colors.

Ballpoint pen

How to Remove Ballpoint Pen Ink From Your T-Shirt

Ballpoint pen

Using a ballpoint pen is an integrated part of everyone’s daily life. However, using a ballpoint regularly means that eventually some of the ink from that pen will make it onto the clothing that you wear. When this occurs, there are several way that the ink can be taken out of the fabric in order for a cleaner, more attractive article of clothing.

Because t-shirts are made from cotton, the ink is easily absorbed into the t-shirt. But, cotton is also easy to wash and it’s possible to get just about any stain out of it. Ballpoint pen ink is generally fairly easy to wash out of a garment. If you want to get the ink out quickly and easily, try washing it along with the other laundry as usual. Use a fast washing speed to make sure to get out as much ink as possible.

After the washing machine cycle is over, take out the t-shirt and check it thoroughly. If there are still any signs of the ink on the t-shirt, either wash it again or find another method to get rid of the ballpoint ink. Don’t put it into a dryer yet, as this will set the remaining ink into the fabric and make it much more difficult to wash the ink out.

Try to remove the ink by hand if the washing machine isn’t effective. This can by done by putting the ink-stained portion of the t-shirt under hot water and letting the water run through the stain for a few minutes. This should loosen up the remaining ink from the fabric. If it doesn’t, try rubbing the ink-stained area back and forth against itself while holding it under the running hot water. After a minute or two, the ink should have disappeared.

Sometimes using some type of soap can help the stain to come out of the fabric faster. You might try a little bit of liquid laundry detergent while using this rubbing method. Liquid hand soap or liquid dishwashing detergent has also been known to help with this type of ink stain.

If the ink stain is older and you’re still having trouble getting it out, try spraying a little hairspray on the stain. Let het hairspray sit on the stain for a few minutes and then try the rubbing method to get it out of the t-shirt. Then, just wash the t-shirt as you normally would in order to get the hairspray out of the fabric.

With a white t-shirt, using a little bit of nail polish remover can also be effective. It is a strong substance, however, and it can stain even a white t-shirt if too much is used. If the ink stain is on a white shirt, using a small amount of bleach from a bleach pen should take out any ink that has remained from the other methods. A bleach pen lets you to apply bleach with precision and to avoid having to wash the entire garment with it.

New clothes

How to Keep T-Shirts and Clothes Looking New

New clothes

Most articles of clothing including t-shirts look their best when they are brand new. Keeping the look of new clothing is one of the biggest struggles of clothing care. There are some washing and drying techniques that make clothing wear out far quicker than if the clothing is treated with other washing and drying techniques.

One of the harshest things that can be done to laundry is to use an electric drier. These age clothing faster than just about anything else that can be done to it. To keep clothing looking newer for far longer, use other drying techniques if possible. Using a dryer does make clothing feel softer but it strips it of many of the fibers of the clothing. If you’ve ever noticed the lint that comes out of a dryer lint trap, you’ve seen where those fibers end up. That lint is largely small particles of the clothing that was dried in the machine.

If you want to bypass the dryer, using an old-fashioned drying line can dry clothing quickly and without wearing out the fabric. If you have bright colors drying, be sure to put the line in the shade. Bright sunlight can cause colors to fade more quickly. This will make the drying process take longer, but the clothing will eventually dry in the fresh air.

Another way to keep t-shirts and clothing looking newer longer is to use cold water to wash the clothes. Hot water is a harsh way to wash clothes and can lead to fading of the colors and for the fabric to ball up into the pills that can form on cotton. Use cold water whenever possible to wash your clothing. There are times when clothing is so dirty or has so many odors that washing it in cold water won’t solve the problems. In those cases, try warm water instead of hot. You might also try alternating between using cold water and hot water on each load of laundry. This cuts in half the number of times that the clothing is washed in hot water while still giving it a deep cleaning every other time.

Harsh detergents are another problem with keeping clothing looking new. The detergents that we use may be effective, but they can also cause some damage to clothing and fade the colors. Using the gentlest detergents possible, that still get out the dirt and odor, will keep the clothing looking better. If the clothing is not getting clean by using a gentler detergent, try a pre-treatment regimen first before using the gentler detergent.

If possible, don’t use bleach to clean the clothes. There are of course times when only bleach will remove a stain. But, on everyday loads, don’t include bleach in the wash. It causes fabric to wear thin far more quickly than a regular detergent. After just a few washes in bleach, a thin fabric may develop holes. If you do use bleach, use it as a spot-treatment if possible instead of adding it to the wash.

Coffee stains

How to Remove Coffee Stains on Your T-Shirt

Coffee stains

Coffee stains are one of the most dreaded of all laundry stains. The dark color of coffee and the deep pigments in the liquid can make it tough to get coffee stains out of a t-shirt, particularly when the t-shirt is colored.

To have the best chance of getting the coffee out of the fabric, treat the stain right away. Don’t hesitate to start getting the coffee out of the t-shirt as soon as the spill happens. Take the t-shirt off as quickly as possible in order to be able to treat the stain quickly. The stain will be a lot easier to treat if it is treated quickly. If too much time has passed, it may not be possible to remove much of the coffee stain without using bleach on the t-shirt.

To start treating the t-shirt, get as much of the liquid out of the fabric as possible. If the spill was large, wring the t-shirt out several times to get the coffee out of it. If the spill was smaller, press a towel, or napkins or whatever you may have into the stained area. Keep doing this until you aren’t able to remove any more of the liquid.

Once you’ve done this, turn the t-shirt inside out and run cold water through the stained part of the t-shirt. If the entire t-shirt has been stained, squeeze and wring the t-shirt repeatedly under cold running water. However large the stain is, rub the fabric together under the water to get the stain out more quickly. Continue doing this until no more of the coffee is running out of the fabric with the water.

Use a pre-treating spray or rub on the stained area of the t-shirt. This pre-treating solution should be used on the entire stained area. Pay particular attention to the edges of the stain. These edges may be darker than the rest of the stain because of the way the coffee was moving along the fabric. Let the stained area soak in the pre-treatment solution for as long as the directions indicate. Once the soaking time is completed, wash the t-shirt in hot water. If the coffee stain was treated quickly, this should lift the remaining coffee out of the fabric. This process will give a colored t-shirt its best chance of beating the stain.

If the t-shirt is white, there are a few additional options that can be used that would alter the color of a colored t-shirt. The main principle of treating this type of dark stain on a white t-shirt is to simply strip all of the color out of the t-shirt. This can be done easily by washing the t-shirt with chlorine bleach, but it may weaken the fabric to do so. The best approach is to blot away the liquid and then rinse the t-shirt as you would with a colored t-shirt. Then, allow the stained area to soak in bleach for a few minutes. After that, rinse away the bleach and launder the t-shirt in hot water. If the bleach soak doesn’t remove the stain, try a bleach pen or soak the t-shirt for a longer period of time before washing it.
