What to Wear to a Disco

Disco

If you’re planning a trip to Europe, or going to a 1970s themed costume party, you may want to consider the disco look. Disco was very popular in the 1970s. Disco refers to both a type of music, and the type of club that this music is played in. Disco is short for the French word discothèque, which means a dance club where recorded music is played by disc jockeys, instead of being performed live. In the United States, clubs have abandoned the term, preferring to call themselves “nightclubs” or “dance clubs,” therefore dressing for a disco usually means a style reminiscent of the electric 70s.

There are two ways to go about dressing for a disco. The first way is to exaggerate the look. Exaggeration is most appropriate when going to a costume party, or dressing up for Halloween. An exaggerated disco look is one that really expands on the stereo-typical party girl/ guy image of the 70s.

For women to dress in an exaggerated disco fashion, it requires some creativity and a lot of makeup. The hairstyles for women of the 70s were all over the place. Some people wore pin straight hair. Some wore hair with curls at the ends, and winged out bangs. Others wore cropped or pixie hair cuts. Even still, African Americans primarily wore afros and, in an exaggerated look, the afros should be very wide. Whatever hairstyle you choose, make sure it resembles a 70s do. No up-dos. It’s a good idea to invest in a wig to capture the look.

Men wore afros, long, shaggy, straight hair, and uneven hair, or pompadours. When dressing in an exaggerated way, make sure to find a style that’s as big as possible. You’re creating a caricature. A lot of men wear curly afros to poke fun at the disco days. Afros are not only for African Americans. Anyone can wear them, and often to hilarious results.

Exaggerated dress would include tight pants, especially with bell bottoms. The bigger the bell, the better it is. Fortunately, the bell bottom style is returning, so it won’t be hard to find a wearable pair of jeans. A lot of women wore gold lame halter tops, or anything shiny. A popular item on the dance floor, for both men and women, were one piece jump suits. Women often wore mini skirts or mini dresses. Many choose to show off their legs. Paired with mini skirts was a pair of high heel go-go boots. Go-go boots usually came up to the knees. Women sometimes wore mini shorts with go-go boots, so if you’re not shy, you may want to implement this look.

Men were a tad more conservative. They sometimes wore suits to the disco, paired with a butterfly collared shirt. Exaggerate this style by wearing the shirt completely unbuttoned, showing off chest hair. If you don’t have chest hair, you may want to purchase glue-on hair, or draw hair onto your chest with an erasable marker.

If you’re not interested in looking like a caricature, you can instead pay homage to the disco era by dressing in the spirit of the 70s dance craze. To do this, hairstyles should be as natural as possible, but still in keeping with the 70s fashion aesthetic. Women can continue to follow the same rules as the exaggerated look, but no wigs are necessary. Guys don’t necessarily need to have long hair, but slicking back shorter hair is important. There were no spiky hair dos in the disco era.

Dress should feature items that are shiny but easy to move around in. These include glittery tank tops, boot cut jeans, short dresses, and platform shoes. Men should also wear jeans, and an buttoned down shirt, preferably unbuttoned at least partially. Dressing for the disco is part showy, because you want to be seen, and part comfort, because you’re there to party.

7th grade

What to Wear in the 7th Grade

7th grade

Seventh grade is a transitional time when elementary school fashions are no longer wanted and high school fashions aren’t quite appropriate yet. For students in seventh grade, a nice comfortable, casual look that is age appropriate is easy to find with the right pieces.

Jeans are one of the easiest things to wear in 7th grade. They are casual, inexpensive and easy to find. When you wear jeans, they can easily be dressed up or made to look easy and casual to go with whatever look you want to portray. They can also be customized with artwork, patches or tearing to give them a customized look.

One of the best things about jeans is that any type of shirt or top goes with them. One of the easiest things to wear to seventh grade are t-shirts in your favorite colors and t-shirts that have pictures that you find appealing. These are easy to use to create your own special style that reflects your own interests and tastes. Dog lovers can wear dog t-shirts or shirts with dog patterns on them along with a comfortable pair of jeans Music lovers can wear t-shirts that portray their favorite bands.

The most appropriate footwear to wear in seventh grade is generally athletic shoes for boys and girls and occasionally flats for girls. When an outfit is dressy, a nice pair of flats finishes the outfit. Athletic shoes for every day use is generally the most comfortable and practical choice. With fitness classes and time outdoors to run around, a pair of athletic shoes comes in handy for keeping up with friends. Athletic shoes are also durable and can take a lot of use and still look nice.
When the weather is warm and if the school permits it, wearing shorts and
a t-shirt is a good way to look casual and stay comfortable in the heat. Denim shorts are very durable and go with absolutely anything, just like jeans. A short-sleeved t-shirt or one with cap sleeves is a nice summer look that will keep you fashionable every day.

Another nice look is khaki or tans pants in cold weather and tan shorts in warm weather. These shorts and pans go with a wide range of shirts, including neutral colors and corresponding prints. A pair of khaki pants and a white r black t-shirt is an easy look that can add new looks to your wardrobe while staying casual and fashionable. In warm weather, a pair of tan shirts and a white t-shirt will keep you cool as well as stylish.

Hoodies, a hooded t-shirt or sweatshirt, are very much in style right now. They can be worn along with your jeans and khakis and come in short or long sleeved versions. They also give you a little protection in case of rain or wind. These are a fun way to change up your wardrobe a little while wearing something practical and comfortable. For a fun look, try a short-sleeved hoodie over a long-sleeved t-shirt along with a pair of comfortable jeans.

Ultimate

What to Wear When Playing Ultimate

Ultimate

If you like American football but could do without the tackling, hitting, cursing and all-around violence of the sport, then Ultimate Frisbee might just be your game. Actually, Ultimate might be your game, since that has become the sport’s official name. The change was made to avoid trademark infringement on the Frisbee™ line of flying discs manufactured by the Wham-O toy company. Ultimate has become widely popular for its unique rules and strong spirit of sportsmanship and respect, and is currently played by millions around the world.

Ultimate originated in 1968 with a group of high school students in Columbia, New Jersey, who adapted the game from Frisbee football. Some of the Columbia students later established Ultimate clubs when they went to study at college, and clubs and associations continued to sprout throughout the country during the 1970’s and 80’s. Currently, there are an estimated five million players worldwide. According to the Ultimate Players Association, Ultimate is defined as a “Player defined and controlled non-contact team sport played with a flying disc on a playing surface with end zones in which all actions are governed by the ‘Spirit of the Game.’”

Similar to American football, the goal of Ultimate is to pass a disc to a team member in the opposing end zone. The trick is you can’t run with the disc; throws may only be done from a standing position. Games may be played outdoors or on indoor football fields, etc. One of the unique aspect of Ultimate is that it does not utilize referees or other officials to ensure fair play of the game. The players themselves officiate, and any actions such as fighting, taunting, intentional fouls and other negative behaviors are not allowed, which is why it is enjoyed by so many people. There’s an overall feeling of just playing for the joy of playing, minus all the drama.

A typical Ultimate game is played to 15 points and lasts roughly an hour and a half, so it’s essential to dress for comfort. Loose t-shirts are perfect, along with shorts of a length that hits just above the knee. Because of all the running, jumping and lunging involved with Ultimate, wearing short shorts (or anything that you can’t bend, twist or run in without revealing too much skin) would become an embarrassing fashion faux pas. Always bring a light and a dark t-shirt when playing pickup games because many times teams are not determined until shortly before play.

Footwear for Ultimate is an even more important consideration. It needs to have lots of traction, so choose shoes with cleats or a similar tread pattern. Check out football or soccer cleats that are made for positions that require fast, nimble movements, such as the If you regularly play on a hard, dry surface (turf vs. natural grass), then shoes with cushioning are also a good idea. Inserts are available to ease the shock of Ultimate play.

If you are interested in becoming involved in Ultimate, most cities offer Ultimate leagues and pick up games that are open to new players. To find where to play in your area, visit the Ultimate Players Association website at  www.upa.org.

Wedding

What to Wear to a Wedding

Wedding

While countless books, magazines and web pages are devoted to the discussion of appropriate wedding attire for a bride, groom and members of the wedding party, the question of what their guests should wear to the wedding is rarely touched upon. Once you’ve gotten the invitation, saved the date and found the perfect wedding gift, it’s time to think about what you will wear as a wedding guest.

The most important guide to how to dress for the occasion will be found in the wedding invitation itself. Not only will it tell you who, where and when, but as a whole the invitation can yield important clues as to how formal the event will be. If the invitation is printed in beautiful, flowing script on creamy cardstock with professional hand-lettering, chances are it’s time to break out the formal gown and tuxedo. If the invitation is cute and contemporary with casual wording, then you can safely assume the wedding will have a laidback atmosphere that permits casual attire.

Other factors to consider include the time of year, the time of day and the location. Whether the wedding takes place in the spring/summer or fall/winter will have a dramatic impact on your wedding attire. Similarly, the time of day in which the wedding is scheduled will determine its formality. If the wedding takes place before 6:00PM, it will likely be less formal than a wedding held after 6:00PM. Finally, a wedding venue such as a church or synagogue will require more formality than a wedding in an outdoor garden or at a home.

If you still are clueless about what attire would be appropriate for your event, here are some tips on what to wear to various types of weddings.

A summer wedding.
For a casual summer wedding, you will want to look fresh and cheerful. A woman could wear a bright-colored sundress in a lightweight fabric, while her escort might wear a button-down shirt with khaki slacks.

A daytime wedding. If the wedding is at a church, light-colored suits and similar business attire should suffice. Pretty summer dresses or jacket and skirt separates would be appropriate for less casual venues. Avoid wearing all black or sequins during the day.

An evening wedding. If the invitation indicates “black tie” either directly or indirectly, then proper attire is a must. Men should wear a tuxedo or at least a dark-colored suit. For ladies, an evening gown or cocktail dress is appropriate. Dress elegantly but do not upstage the bride by wearing dresses that are overly flashy or revealing.

A morning wedding. The dress code for a morning wedding is the same as that of a daytime wedding.

A casual wedding. Nearly anything goes in this situation. Nice casual shirts, jeans and sundresses are all acceptable options.

An afternoon wedding.
Since an afternoon wedding likely means an evening reception, attire that is dressier than that of a daytime wedding will be a smart choice. Men should choose a dark suit, while ladies might choose a short cocktail dress or dressy suit.

A rehearsal dinner. Depending on the location, choose attire that you would wear to a nice restaurant.

Gala

What to Wear to a Gala Event

Gala

Gala events are held in practically every part of the world. Many such events celebrate wonderful traditions, events, rituals or achievements. In fact, a gala may be held for any number of reasons: as a Christmas party, a retirement celebration, the opening or closing of a big event, a charity fundraiser and much more. Knowing how to dress for a gala event is something that many people find themselves wondering on occasion. While there are many people who seem to make a career out of attending galas and the like, many other people find themselves on the guest list of a gala rather infrequently, or even just once in their lives. It is these people who sit and wonder exactly what to wear to such an event.

Dressing for a gala event is rather simple. It is typically a formal wear occasion. For men, that equates to a tuxedo or at the very least a suit and tie. For women, formal wear is typically a long gown with high heels, matching accessories and jewelry. By donning such outfits you are sure to blend in seamlessly and have a great time.

The season that the gala event will be held in will impact the way you dress. Galas held in the winter typically require darker, heavier weight gowns. Pantyhose for warmth are usual. Shoes are often more closed and sturdier than other times of the year. Stoles, shawls and wraps are a common and necessary addition to your wintertime gala wear. Remember to choose something that adds to your outfit rather than takes away from it. For men, winter galas mean dark colors and heavy weight suit fabric.

In summer, gala events are often outdoors. While long formalwear is still required, more filmy, lightweight fabric in lighter colors is a suitable option. Choose an outfit that is airy and shows off a little skin. Sandal-like high heels are perfect for warm weather galas. Skip the stockings in order to stay cool. For guys, your choice of formalwear is much wider in the warmer months. You can choose from lighter colors or stay with darker ones, just be sure to choose light weight fabrics for comfort.

If you are looking to outfit yourself or someone close to you for a gala event, there are many options for where to find the right outfit. You can rent formal wear. You can invest in it which is a good idea if you plan to wear it more than once. You can also seek out gently used secondhand formal wear of which there is abundance. Get your gala formal wear today and be ready for any gala event that comes your way. Take confidence and pride in the fact that you are appropriately put together for the big event.

Work

Work Attire: Go with the Flow (with Style!)

Work

If you are trying to decide what items of clothing to include in your work wardrobe, this is a time when it’s OK to go with the crowd. While business attire is less about the person and more about business, just because you’re headed to the office doesn’t mean you have to leave your personal style behind, however. Here are a few tips to help you project a confident, professional image regardless of your career path.

•    In an office environment, you want to appear professional, not cute, sexy or trendy. The goal of work attire is not to capture attention, so any ensemble or accessory that does this is probably not appropriate. Choose well-made clothing, but steer away from heavily logoed designer items. While the flash may work at a nightclub, loud logos and gaudy bling will appear tasteless in an office environment.

•    Pay special attention to the colors you incorporate into your work wardrobe. Traditional colors such as black, navy blue, gray and red all function well for suits and shoes, and can be paired with shirts and accessories of softer pastel colors. Flashy colors and bold prints are probably less acceptable, depending on your corporate environment.

•    When it comes to work clothing, tailored is always the desired look. Pants and skirts should be fitted but not tight, with no visible panty lines. Jackets should button comfortably. Avoid open-toed shoes and heels that are too high, unless you work in a very casual environment.

•    Grooming should include neat hair, manicured nails and subtle makeup. Always strive for a polished appearance.

•    Avoid jangling jewelry that will be a distraction every time you move. One set of modest earrings, one bracelet or a simple necklace will do the trick.

If there are no hard-and-fast rules in your workplace about what to wear (many companies don’t have specific dress requirements), pay attention to what the higher-ups in the organization are sporting. Suits and ties or casual polos? Pantyhose or bare legs? Pumps or sneakers? Take cues for your own wardrobe from these looks. If you are meeting one-on-one with clients, it’s wise to dress as good or better than your client. If meeting dress tends to be more formal than your office environment, it’s a smart idea to keep a change of clothing on hand.

If your corporate culture is formal, there are still ways you can subtly exude personality in your dress. Try a few of these ideas to freshen up your work look.

•    Add a small splash of color with a bright tie or scarf.

•    Get regular haircuts at a trendy salon to ensure your hairstyle is up-to-date and polished.

•    Buy shoes and accessories with interesting patterns or finishes, such as patent leather pumps or a crocodile-print clutch.

•    Experiment with subtle ways to change your makeup to complement your look. A bit of gloss will add pizzazz to your lips, and coordinating eyeshadow will make your eyes pop. Save the sparkly cosmetics for a night on the town though.

Jewish Temple

What to Wear to a Jewish Temple

Jewish Temple

Going to a Jewish temple for the first time can be a very different experience style wise. There are aspects of the clothing that are unique to the temple.

Men’s Clothing

For men, part of the required dress code is the yarmulke. All men and boys must wear the yarmulke when they enter the temple. These are small, round hats that fit onto the very top of the head. The temple will have these at the entrances to make them available to everyone. If the hat falls off onto the floor at any time, kiss it before putting it back on.

Wearing a suit to the temple is a very safe choice for any temple. These are always stylish, always accepted and they leave you in no danger of being disrespectful. If you don’t have a suit to wear, approximate the look of a suit with a dressy pair of slacks in tan, black or dark blue. Wear a button-up shirt with the pants and a sport jacket or blazer with it. This look can generally be worn without a tie as long as the clothing looks god together and appears dressy.

Wear the best shoes you can with your outfit. Nice shoes that are in good condition and that that are dressy enough for a suit are the best shoes to wear.

Women’s Clothing

Women must dress modestly in a Jewish temple. The upper arms must stay covered, so avoid strapless or sleeveless outfits. Look for ¾ or long sleeves when you search for an outfit. This is a conservative look that is the most appropriate for the occasion.

A suit or a dress should be worn to the temple. A pair of slacks and a button-up shirt will likely not be dressy enough. A full suit, including a jacket and a matching pair of pants will be the most appropriate type of pants to wear. There are some temples that don’t allow women to wear pants. If you don’t have a dress, call ahead and find out whether pants are allowed.

If you have a long dress with ¾ or long sleeves, this will do nicely for the temple. Make sure that the dress is of a modest length. Never wear a dress that is knee length or shorter. A dress that comes below the calves is the best choice for most temples. If your skirt will be showing some leg, wear pantyhose with them.

If the temple is an Orthodox one, a hair covering should be worn for married women. In some temples, all women are expected to cover their hair. If you aren’t sure whether a head covering is needed, carry a scarf in your handbag just in case you need to wear it. This will help to avoid any embarrassment if you arrive and discover that the temple requires the covering.

Some temples require prayer shawls to be worn during certain services. The morning services generally require one of these shawls. Like the yarmulke, the shawls are generally provided at the door to make sure that everyone has one to wear.

Golf

What About Golf and Country Club Dress Codes?

Golf

Unlike sports such as football and basketball which are played by the masses, golf has a reputation as a rather snooty sport enjoyed primarily by the upper-class. While this isn’t true, there are certain practices associated with golf that help maintain its distinguished image. First of all, golf can only be played on specially designed and maintained golf courses, and these aren’t always readily available. There are also numerous costs associated with playing golf, such as club membership fees, equipment costs and apparel costs.

The upscale image associated with golf is also due in part to the dress worn by players. In fact, many golf courses have a dress code to ensure that players meet certain dress requirements. If you are new to the golf course scene, here are a few things to keep in mind regarding golf dress codes.

First, not all golf courses have a dress code. If you are headed to a municipal golf course (one owned and operated by a town or city), there probably will not be dress requirements. T-shirts and shorts will be acceptable on the course, though going shirtless or dressing in swimwear is probably not a smart idea. For private courses, there generally is a dress code. The more upscale and expensive the course, the stricter the dress code will be.

For the largest percentage of courses, a collared shirt and Dockers-style shorts will be the standard golfing ensemble. Modest skirts are also acceptable for ladies. Many will allow denim shorts, but a smaller percentage will have a no-denim policy. It’s a safe bet that those who show up in t-shirts, tank tops, cut-off shorts, short shorts (more than 4 inches above the knee), sweatshirts and casual athletic wear will not be allowed on the course. The most exclusive, upscale golf courses will have a no-shorts policy, so be sure to check with your respective course prior to tee time.

The centerpiece for most country clubs is a beautiful golf course, so a country club dress code generally follows the golf course dress code. During the day, patrons will be welcome to wear in the clubhouse whatever they would wear on the golf course, such as a collared shirt, shorts, skirt or slacks. For daytime events such as brunches, lunches or dinners prior to 7:00PM, semi-casual attire should be worn. This would include an informal dress, blouse, knee-length skirt or slacks for ladies, and a button-down shirt and slacks with an optional sport coat for men.

For dinners after 7:00PM or similar evening events, a nice dress or slacks with coordinating accessories should be worn by ladies. Men would be considered well-dressed in a sport coat, dress shirt and slacks. A tie is optional.

In general, dress for a golf course should always be tasteful and modest. Golf courses and country clubs frequently host special events, so if you will be in attendance at a special gala or other event, check beforehand with your club’s concierge to confirm the dress requirements.

School 2

What to Wear on the First Day of School

School 2

The first day of school can be an anxious time for many students, especially if you’re a freshman or new to the school. After a three month break, things can change a lot. Will you have friends in your new classes? Will you know where to go without getting lost? And, of course, what will you wear that will make you look casually hip without looking like you spent all summer obsessing over this one outfit?

Many students like to go shopping for new clothes over the summer. Back-to-school sales are usually too good to pass up with it comes to finding great deals on basics like jeans, tops and shoes. Clothes don’t have to be expensive. Watch your local ads (or talk to friends who like to shop) and shop around for the best buys.

Having a new ensemble for the first day of school can go a long way toward making you feel confident and comfortable. When choosing what you will wear, even if you aren’t going to wear something new, here are a few things to consider.

1.    Clothing should conform to your school dress code. If your school requires uniforms, be sure that you have the appropriate pieces to wear.  If you are uncertain about your school’s requirements, consult the school handbook. When uniforms are not necessary, good taste is the best rule to follow. For girls, avoid any clothing items that show too much skin or are otherwise distracting. Remember that you are not going clubbing or on a date. Boys should not wear hats, clothing that is too baggy, shirts with inappropriate language or images, or any clothing that could be considered gang-related. You are going to school and the focus should be on learning, not on your body.

2.    Dress to look your best, without overdressing. The first day of school is a good time to kick your style up a notch, even if you don’t plan on dressing that nicely most days. This will probably be the first time you meet certain teachers and other students, so you want to make a good first impression.

3.    Choose clothing that is comfortable to wear. It may look good, but after eight hours those tight jeans will be killing you.

4.    Avoid anything that is too flashy or too trendy. Remember, you have to go back to school again, so you don’t want to wear a killer outfit the first day and sweatpants the next. Go for a consistent style that will reflect your personality without overdoing it.

5.    The evening before, check the outfit you plan to wear to be sure it is clean and presentable. If clothing is wrinkled or dirty, wash and iron as appropriate.

6.    Shoes should also be clean and presentable, even if they are not new. Girls should avoid styles that are too high. You may be walking a lot and climbing up and down stairs, so choose shoes that are both comfortable and cute.

Casino

High Rollin’ in Style: What to Wear to the Casino

Casino

Casinos offer the perfect blend of fun, excitement, food and a huge variety of people, all conveniently located in one massive, glittering place. In the early days of casinos, a very formal dress code was enforced. Women wore furs and jewels, and men wouldn’t think of entering in anything but a sharp suit. Over the past decades, as the casino industry has exploded and society has become more casual in general, casino dress codes have become increasingly more relaxed. The days of dressing your best and sipping martinis at the tables, James Bond style, are long gone.

If you are heading to a European casino, you will find the clientele is generally much better dressed than their American counterparts. For American casinos, the dress code often seems to be akin to the one McDonald’s uses: “no shirt, no shoes, no slots.” Where you’re hanging out on the Las Vegas Strip or chilling at a local hole in the wall, you’ll see a huge range of ensembles, from shorts and t-shirts to designer labels. Anything goes, and fashion isn’t always the top priority. The dressed-down look of some patrons has even prompted a bit of backlash in Atlantic City, where the Tropicana Casino and Resort recently began enforcing a dress code for late-night visitors in certain areas of the complex. Baggy jeans, work boots or work shoes, t-shirts, inappropriate athletic gear or similar dress will land you back outside the doors.

•    If you’re packing for a trip to Las Vegas, Atlantic City or some smaller venue, the idea is simple: think casual! Most casinos offer no formal dress code, so you will want to dress comfortably without being tasteless. There’s already enough of that to go around. Clothing that is clean and presentable (not ragged or torn) is a must.

•    Keep in mind that the season will be important to consider when you’re deciding what to wear to the casino. Las Vegas is hot, hot, hot in the summer (the average is 107 in July), but inside the casinos the air conditioning is always pumping. You may want to bring a light wrap if you get easily chilled. For lounging by the pool or anytime you will be outside, don’t forget the sunblock and moisturizer.

•    Comfortable shoes are a must. Most casinos are huge and attractions are spread out, so your three-inch patent leather heels may not be the best footwear choice. Keep shoes flat or low-heeled and you’ll be glad you did the next morning.

•    If you’re headed out for a night at one of the high-end casinos, dress is nicer than what you’ll see during the day. Jeans, slacks, buttoned-down shirts, trendy dresses and skirts are all good choices.

If you plan to head to a local nightclub after some gambling, be aware that clubs and lounges enforce strict dress codes. Shorts, sandals, flip-flops, t-shirts and baggy pants won’t even get you in the door. Dress to impress, and you’ll find yourself in good company.

Disc golf

What to Wear When Playing Disc Golf

Disc golf

The sport of disc golf is one of the world’s fastest growing sports because it can be played by people of any age and fitness level. Disc golf developed informally with people using Frisbees and tossing them into targets such as trash cans, trees or whatever happened to be nearby. Those games gradually evolved into the game of disc golf. It’s a sport that is easy to learn and lots of fun, making disc golf courses increasingly popular among families and individuals of all ages.

Disc golf has similarities to standard golf, but rather than using golf balls and clubs and hitting a ball into a hole, players use discs and aim into a basket mounted at a “disc pole hole.” The goal is to start from the tee area and complete each hole in the fewest number of throws. A disc golf course usually has nine or 18 holes, and the player that completes the course with the fewest number of throws wins.

One of the unique aspects of disc golf is that a course can utilize almost any terrain. Where traditional golf requires flat and gently rolling landscapes that are meticulously maintained, disc golf can be played regardless of hills, trees, rocks, waterways and other natural obstacles. It can often make use of land that cannot be utilized for other sports, buildings or developments. There are also few maintenance and upkeep costs associated with disc golf courses, which makes it an attractive option for communities and recreational facilities.

If you are new to the sport of disc golf, you are definitely in for a good time. Being outdoors, enjoying nature and having fun with friends may make it your new favorite hobby! Disc golf is far less pretentious than traditional golf, so clothing is comfortable and low-key. Because there are lunging and throwing movements involved, you should choose clothing that is loose, similar to what you would wear for athletics. You should also wear items that you don’t mind getting dirty in. T-shirts and shorts are totally acceptable attire for disc golf.

Shoes are another important consideration when playing disc golf. Disc golf courses often include rugged terrain, and the course can be wet, muddy, hot or anything in between. Tennis shoes will work, but professionals use shoes that are rugged enough to withstand lots of wear-and-tear and that are also waterproof.

If you are starting your game in the morning and playing into the day, you should dress in layers so that if you start to get hot, you can remove a layer of clothing. On the flip side, if you start in the middle of the day and play into the evening, you should consider bringing a jacket for when the temperatures begin to cool down.

Proper head apparel can both protect you from the sun’s rays and help improve your play. A baseball cap is suitable, while a visor will keep the sun out of your eyes and allow your head to breathe. Sunscreen is also essential, so plan ahead to truly enjoy this great sport!

Jonas Brothers

What to Wear to a Jonas Brothers Concert!

Jonas Brothers

Congratulations are in order! You have scored tickets to one of the hottest acts on the planet right now — the Jonas Brothers! These smokin’ hot guys from New Jersey are also amazingly talented, so it is no surprise they were recently nominated for Best New Artist at the 51st Grammy Awards. The brothers’ upcoming world tour will give the most devoted fans from around the globe a chance to see what’s made them so popular, so if you’re still waiting for a ticket, don’t worry. There will still be plenty of tickets up for grabs!

When you are trying to decide what to wear to a Jonas Brothers concert, first decide if you want to dress up or go with a more casual look. Concerts can be kind of tricky in this area. You will probably be standing for most of the time, which could mean you will be standing for several hours from the time you get into the gates until you get back to your car. So it’s a good idea to wear clothing and footwear that is comfortable. But to catch the eye of Joe, Nick or Kevin, you will also need to wear something that stands out a bit, and a white t-shirt and shorts probably won’t do that (unless the t-shirt says something really cool).

•    If you are thinking about going with a more casual look, you could buy a Jonas Brothers t-shirt from their website. This is an easy way to show your love for the boys and look great while doing it. On their site you can find lots of cute babydoll shirts and tank tops with really cool JB graphics, and it’s all the same stuff that is available at their concerts (except you don’t have to stand in line!)

•    If you don’t want to look like everyone else, then you should consider a more dressy look. Maybe you could wear a pretty sundress with a t-shirt under it, or a sequined top with skinny jeans. Don’t wear clothes that show too much skin though.

•    The shoes you choose to wear are also very important. Don’t even think about wearing heels, because your feet will hurt the whole time and you won’t be able to enjoy the show as much. Sandals are OK, but you might get your toes stepped on. Sneakers are a good choice, maybe Vans or Converse. Boots will probably be too uncomfortable after a while.

•    Don’t wear a short skirt or something that will get flipped up easily. If you have a short skirt that you really like, wear a pair of shorts underneath instead.

Courtroom

What to Wear in a Courtroom

Courtroom

When you arrive at court, you need to look like a person who is conservative and who is serious about the court proceedings before them. This is not a time for showing off your personal style or to try to impress others with your contempt for the proceedings. You have to remember that a courtroom is a conservative place and judges are usually conservative people. You will have to dress accordingly in order to make the best impression.

Conservative Attire

The best thing to wear is a suit. Whether you are a man or a woman, a suit projects competence and seriousness on your part. If you are wearing a suit, you are telling the judge that are taking him seriously and that you are a productive member of society. If you show up in jeans or something very casual, this lets the judge know that you are not entirely aware of how serious a place the courtroom is.

Always wear dressy shoes, no matter what else you are wearing. Never attend court in tennis shoes, sandals, flip flops or casual ankle boots to court. For women, flats or pumps are most appropriate. For men, a neutral colored dressy shoe is most appropriate. Don’t go for trendy outfits or clothing that is in poor condition.

Blue is a color that makes people feel at ease and calm. Many people wear dark blue to court because it can make them seem more trustworthy. Avoid orange which can make people feel aggressive. If you are red, it may make you seem dangerous. If you are woman, wearing pastels can make you seem more demure.

Accessories

Limit your accessories to just a few simple items. If you have a lot of piercings, take them out before you arrive. Your accessories should be small and understated and not too trendy. You want to show that you care about your appearance without making yourself stand out with her fashion choices.

Another important tip is to wear items that are comfortable. If you wear clothing that feels uncomfortable or strange, you may look nervous. Look nervous in the courtroom is not what you want to project. If you are very uncomfortable in a suit, try a business casual outfit such as slacks and a blazer so that you will be more comfortable. If you’re a man, you should wear a tie even if you are wearing a business casual outfit.

Don’t wear a hat to court. Most courtrooms will allow it, and it shows a general sense of disrespect to the court. If you are wearing a coat, take it off before you see the judge. Never wear sunglasses and to the courtroom.

Strapless dress

What to Wear Under Strapless Dresses

Strapless dress

Strapless dresses are common for cocktail parties, weddings, proms and other special events. They are also popular with many young girls on the club scene. The strapless dress is undeniably sexy and stylish. Without showing too much, it creates a provocative look that is also elegant. However what to wear under strapless dresses is often the problem for many women.

Your choice of what to wear beneath a strapless dress will depend on many different things. The first thing is your breast size. If you are flat and the dress needs assistance in staying up, you will need to get some double-sided tape to provide the help you need. A padded strapless bra will also provide a little extra fullness to create an enhanced silhouette for your dress. If you are top heavy and have no problem keeping your dress up, you may need some help keeping your breasts themselves up for the most flattering look possible. A strapless bra with underwire will provide support and shape.

Your choice of strapless bra will depend on how much support you actually need, what type of bra you are comfortable wearing and how low cut the back of your dress is. A regular bra without straps will attach mid-back like other bras. What helps it to stay up is usually rubber or silicone lining on the inside of the bra itself which tends to adhere to the skin to avoid slippage. This type of bra is best for those who need less support or extra padding and those whose dresses are not low-cut in the back.

A corset style strapless bra is the perfect choice for a dress which is practically backless. The bra attaches at the lower back and covers waist to breast in the front. Flexible ribbing running vertically from the waist to cup provides stability and excellent support. This type of bra is versatile enough for a wide variety of garments and is surprisingly comfortable enough to wear for extended periods.

For the individual who needs a little support but the dress doesn’t provide camouflaging for a bra, there is still another option. Adhesive bras stick directly to your skin and provide support and shape. Another option for those needing enhancement is a similar idea. Push-up cups adhere to the dress to give extra fullness just where you need it.

If you are wearing a strapless dress and are worried about bumps and bulges showing beneath it, there are several great options to help take care of them. Body slimmers in strapless models make the perfect undergarment to ensure you look your best when you get dressed. While a silhouette type of slimmer is the best for a strapless dress, shorts styled slimmers like Spanx are also quite effective.

Strapless dresses are elegant and versatile. They are youthful and fun and usually quite lovely. Having the right garments under your strapless dress, you will be comfortable and confident that you look your absolute best and nothing is showing that you don’t want to show.

Business dinner

What To Wear To A Business Dinner

Business dinner

Wearing the right thing for business situations is very important. Overdressing can leave the other party feeling uncomfortable. Dressing too casually makes you look unprofessional and nonchalant. Deciding what to wear to a business dinner therefore is a little tricky. Typically business dinners are after the workday so sometimes they are formal, while other times they are less formal. In order to dress appropriately, you must figure out which type of dinner it is.

Let the location guide you. If the meeting will be held at a country club, a formal restaurant or other location where you know it is common for people to dress up, you should be safe in wearing business attire. This means a suit and tie for men and a business suit and blouse for women. If the business dinner is a celebratory affair or a holiday business dinner in one of the above mentioned locations, even more formal attire may be necessary. Men should wear tuxedos and women evening gowns.

If you are meeting for a business dinner in a casual restaurant or as a part of an evening of entertainment, you should dress more casually. Wearing an outfit that you would typically wear to work should suffice, provided your work atmosphere is not overly casual. If in doubt, opt for trousers, a blazer and a tie, which can be easily removed for the guys. For women, a dress and blazer or trousers and a dressy top or a skirt and blouse are appropriate. If you choose to layer using dressier items like fitted blazers, it is easy to remove them to make your outfit look less formal. This is always a good strategy when in doubt.

Checking with others is a great way to figure out what to wear to a business dinner. Obviously you don’t want to check with the people you will be meeting. However checking with your boss or someone who has been with your company longer than you is a great way to learn what is typically worn at such events. Avoid asking the company clown for advice!

Keep in mind the industry you work in. Khakis and a polo shirt might be perfectly suitable for a business dinner for those in the construction industry. However, a business dinner of accountants, lawyers or doctors will be completely different. If you are in a different industry than those you are meeting with, try to dress at least as good as the others who will be at the dinner.

Advice on what not to wear to a business dinner varies depending on how casually your industry dresses. Guidelines of what not to wear include the same things you wouldn’t wear to work. Don’t wear shorts, work out clothes, jeans, T-shirts, baseball hats, flip flops, anything suggestive or clothing with questionable comments on it.

Take your lead of what to wear to a business dinner from good sense and from people you trust and you will be sure to arrive in confidence and blend in seamlessly.

Rock concert

What to Wear to a Rock Concert

Rock concert

When you go to a rock concert, you have a license to dress like you wouldn’t at any other time. The more all-out you can go, the better your rock ‘n roll look will be.

The Venue

One of the most important things to consider when dressing for rock and roll concert is to consider the venue. Where the event is scheduled will be one of the biggest things that influence what you wear. If you’re going to an outdoor rock concert, you might need sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and a short sleeve shirt or coat, depending on the weather. If the concert will be in a field, you will need boots because of the mud.

An arena concert is a very different thing. You don’t have to dress for the outdoors, but you will have to dress to take care of yourself in the crowd. You may want to wear boots indoors if the venue will be very crowded. Many concertgoers opt for steel-toed boots for the best protection. This will keep your toes from being crushed when they are stepped on- and they are likely to be stepped on. You may also want to leave all their valuables at home so that they aren’t grabbed or broken while you’re there. Necklaces and earrings are a bad idea in general because of the risk of injury and theft.

The Genre

After the venue, the genre of the rock music is the biggest factor in what you wear. There are many, many different subcategories of rock ‘n roll now, and each has its own style of dress. But for most of them, the universal way of dressing is to wear jeans and leather. A band t-shirt from one of the band’s other concerts is perfect for a rock concert. The shows that you are a big fan of the band and not someone who just showed up because the band was in town.

A t-shirt in a solid color is always a good bet for concert. It’s inexpensive, and it won’t matter if he gets stained torn during the concert. You may not plan to get into the mosh pit, but the spirit might move you once you’re at the concert. Make sure that your shirt and jeans are not too tight. This will ensure that you have enough freedom of movement to dance and move around the way want to. Don’t wear jeans that are too baggy however, when they might get stepped on or pulled in the crowd.

No matter what genre of rock you are listening to, a pair of 501 jeans is always very rock ‘n roll. Wear these with a leather belt, a pair of boots, a t-shirt and a leather jacket and you will look as rock ‘n roll as a person can. The t-shirt can be plain black, plain white or any other color that matches your mood. Make sure you don’t wear too much clothing however, or you may end up sweating so much that it becomes a distraction. If you think you might get too hot, leave the leather jacket at home and stick with jeans and t-shirt.

Greek orthodox church

What to Wear to a Greek Orthodox Church

Greek orthodox church

The exact dress code that any one Greek Orthodox Church has will vary from church to church. However, there are a few things to remember when visiting any Greek Orthodox Church. There are several standards of dress that should be met in order to show respect to the church and to its members.

Men’s Clothing

When attending a service in a Greek Orthodox Church, forget wearing shorts or flip-flops. Shorts are not considered to be respectful in these churches, and they should be left at home.

For men, a simple suit is generally the safest thing to wear. Many people wear a full suit, including a jacket and tie. Choose a neutral color to keep the suit looking businesslike and respectful.

In place of a business suit, many Greek Orthodox Churches will allow men to wear a dressy pair of tan or khaki pants with a button-up shirt and a simple tie. Keep the colors neutral and keep the tie pattern simple. Loud ties are generally not appropriate in a Greek Orthodox Church. Make sure the shirt has long sleeves and is in good condition.

Wear shoes that are dressy to match the outfit. Casual loafers may not be appropriate to wear in the church. A dark pair of leather shoes will work with any outfit and are easy to find. Tennis shoes are almost never appropriate for a church service.

Women’s Clothing

For women, there are many options that are appropriate for a Greek Orthodox Church service. The main idea for women’s dress is to keep it modest. Many Greek Orthodox Churches have dress codes that call for modest clothing. To achieve this, remember not to show too much skin. The shoulders cannot be shown in the church, so avoid anything strapless or with thin straps. Keep your tops and dresses high cut and with long sleeves.

Wearing a simple dress is a nice way to show respect to the church. The dress should not be too tight and it should not have a shirt hemline. Keep the dress long, coming to the ankle or to the lower calf.

Many Greek Orthodox Churches have a dress code that specifies that skirts and dresses must come below the knee. Others ask that no leg be shown. If you aren’t sure which is appropriate, it may be best to wear an ankle-length dress or skirt to avoid any embarrassment.

Tennis shoes, flip-flops and stiletto heels are all inappropriate footwear for a Greek Orthodox Church. The shoes should be appropriate to the outfit and should not be too sexy in style. High heels are generally acceptable, but they should be simple in style and not too strappy.

Keep your jewelry and makeup simple when going to a service. Some Greek Orthodox Churches frown upon lipstick being worn if communion is to be taken. Keep makeup simple and neutral and wear only small, understated jewelry. Long, dangly jewelry may bring unneeded attention to yourself. Keep necklaces and earrings small and tasteful in order to keep your look respectful.

Khaki pants

What to Wear with Khaki Pants

Khaki pants

Khaki pants are one of those wonderful fashion staples that you can always count on. While the style of khaki pants may change slightly now and then, such as flat-fronts versus pleats or fitted versus loose, it’s safe to say that khakis will never be shunned from the modern casual wardrobe.

The word “khaki” can refer to both the fabric and the color of the fabric. The term came into the English language via India, and has its roots in a Hindi word meaning “dust-colored” or “earth-colored.” The British Indian Army adopted khaki uniforms for service in the mid- to late-1800’s due to the material’s lightweight texture and cooling properties. The first khaki fabrics were a blend of cotton and linen that were light tan in color, but darker shades later became popular as well. Khaki is now the official uniform of military forces around the world, including the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps, as well as many police forces worldwide.

Khaki is also the informally adopted uniform for business casual wearers everywhere. It’s an easy, comfortable style that goes with just about anything. Here are some ideas for how to wear khaki and look stylish while doing it.

•    For a relaxed business casual look, pair your khaki pants with a button-up oxford-type shirt or a classic collared polo shirt. Add a coordinating belt and you’re ready to go in style.

•    Another idea for classic business casual is to pair your khakis with a crisp, white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up. Leave the tie at home, and you’ll be both chic and comfortable. Don’t forget a nice belt, and be sure to match your shoes with your belt color.

•    Khakis are available in many more styles than just pants. Try khaki shorts, cropped pant khakis, Bermuda shorts and skirts for ultimate versatility.

•    Don’t wear the classic tan khaki exclusively. Khakis come in a wide range of colors, including olive, brown, green and navy. Experiment with different styles of khakis in various colors.

•    Polish your khaki by adding preppy items such as a v-neck sweater and a blazer. The look will offer a hint of schoolboy charm while still being classy enough for work or a nice restaurant.

•    As with any nice pant, avoid wearing white socks with your khakis, especially white socks with sandals. This will scream geek. Instead, choose socks that are the same shade as your shoes so they will blend well.

•    The type of shoes you wear can go a long way toward making your khakis appear casual or dressy. Wear leather loafers with your khakis when the dress is business casual. A dark brown loafer will almost always look great with khakis, while black can be worn with a black shirt and black belt. To dress down your khakis, wear them with a pair of canvas sneakers.

•    Women can pair khakis with a pretty blouse and casual sandals for running errands, while men may pair a casual khaki pant or shorts with a nice t-shirt and sandals. However, ladies should avoid high heels and other dressy shoes when wearing khakis as they are not meant to be dressed up too much.

Opera

What to Wear to the Opera

Opera

For most minds, the word “opera” conjures up images of corseted women and barrel-chested men belting out glass-shattering notes on a massive stage. The performance of opera has a long and rich history, with music and stories that dazzle and move their audiences to tears. Because the first opera audiences were primarily wealthy European aristocrats, dress at the opera was always lavishly formal and meant to impress. The tendency to dress formally to attend an opera performance continues today, though the attire of opera attendees can vary widely.

If you are attending an opera for the first time, do not be intimidated by the thought of looking out-of-place or clueless. While the attire of most attendees leans toward dressy, attending the opera nowadays is much like attending a movie. Attire can range from jeans to business casual to full-blown formal with tuxedos and ball gowns.

When deciding what to wear to the opera, the first consideration is the date. If you will be attending on the opening night of a particular opera or any special gala event, the dress will tend toward black tie or very nice dress clothes. This will be not only a cultural event, but a social function as well, so expect fellow opera patrons to be stepping out with glitz and glamour. Tuxedos will be common among the men, while women will likewise dress in elegant cocktail dresses or evening gowns. This will be the time to show off the very best your closet has to offer.

Another consideration is whether the opera house you will be attending has a specific dress code for patrons. Most do not, but it is always wise to check prior to the date you will be in attendance. Visit the venue’s website for information, or consult your ticket information. For example, the Royal Opera House in London states, “There is no dress code for visitors to the Royal Opera House. Informal evening wear is the most adopted attire but is not a requirement.”

To get the most enjoyment out of the evening, consider your own preferences. Are you and your spouse wanting to experience an extra-special evening on the town? Dressing up will add extra sparkle to your night out, since most people rarely have the opportunity to dress in formal attire. For a bit more comfort, opt for a semi-formal outfit such as a sports jacket and slacks for a man, and a nice blouse and dress slacks, skirt or dress for ladies. However, if you detest wearing a suit and tie, or high heels and pantyhose, then opt for whatever you are most comfortable in. If you prefer jeans and don’t mind that other audience members might consider you underdressed, then wear whatever you like and enjoy the performance in comfort.

However you choose to dress for the opera, be sure to wear clothing that is comfortable to sit in. Operas can be quite lengthy, and you will be sitting for the majority of the evening.

Running

What to Wear While Running

Running

Exercise is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle, and running is a great way to accomplish your exercise goals. Not only is running simple and free (forget the pricey gym memberships), it gives you an opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy the weather and beautiful scenery of all four seasons. If you are ready to give running a try, it’s important to wear the right apparel and footwear to stay comfortable and avoid injury.

Warm Weather Apparel

The apparel you choose for your run will depend heavily on the weather conditions and the area where you live. If the weather is very warm, start with a basic pair of runner’s shorts made from lightweight nylon or polyester (Check out Men’s Shorts, Women’s Shorts from Road Runner Sports). While you might be tempted to go shirtless, you will actually stay cooler and more comfortable by wearing a t-shirt made from a breathable fabric that pulls moisture away from the body. COOLMAX® is one such engineered fabric, and a variety of athletic apparel items are available in this material. Women may opt for a jog bra. If the weather is mild enough for a t-shirt but not yet warm enough for shorts, a pair of lightweight nylon jogging pants will keep your legs comfortable.

Cold Weather Apparel

When weather is brisk, dress in layers that can be easily removed once you warm up. A sweatshirt or jacket can be tied around the waist should you not need it anymore. Lycra tights are an essential layer for the legs when temperatures start to dip, and can be worn under loose jogging pants when cold weather becomes extreme. Similar to the engineered t-shirt, a long-sleeved shirt of engineered fabric will allow perspiration to escape and prevent your body from becoming cold and clammy on a winter day. Running jackets are another method to retain heat in frigid temperatures.

On cold days, a winter cap is a must to retain the maximum amount of body heat. Hats made especially for runners can be purchased at athletic shops. Finally, insulated gloves will keep hands from becoming dry and cracked in the cold.

Footwear

Proper footwear is the most important element of your running wardrobe. Of all the injuries a runner could sustain, foot problems due to improperly fitting footwear are the most likely. Running puts a great deal of stress on a foot, especially if you are running on paved surfaces. Feet have different characteristics, such as high or low arches, so it is important that you be properly fitted in a running shoe that will suit your foot type and keep you running in comfort. Never run in walking shoes or sport sandals, or you risk blisters and bruising on your feet.  Check out Runners World for a large number of running shoe reviews or purchase them online at Finish Line or Zappos.

Sun Protection

Don’t forget a hat or visor to keep the rays out of your eyes when you’re running. A good pair of sunglasses can prevent your eyes from tiring during a run, and sunblock with an SPF of 30 or higher will protect against sunburn and long-term skin damage. These items are especially important if you are a frequent runner.
