Cool T-Shirts Say It All

A T-shirt is just more item of clothing in your closet, but it has the potential to be the coolest thing you own. That’s quite a feat, considering it’s probably the least expensive part of your outfit.

But what exactly makes a T-shirt “cool”?

Is it the wearer? James Dean and Marlon Brando certainly looked cool in their T-shirts and jeans in movies like “Rebel without a Cause” and “A Streetcar Named Desire.” Whereas people who appear, say, on the TV show “Cops” are quite the opposite of cool, even though they’re wearing the same shirt.

Is it the attitude? A T-shirt featuring the kids’ character Strawberry Shortcake might be the lamest thing on the block to Susie Q.’s big brother, but for Susie Q. And her friends–well, it’s just the coolest thing ever.

Is it the design? Mindy P. mumbled a half-hearted thanks to her high-school boyfriend when he presented her with a Whitesnake concert T-shirt in 1991–in honor of their first date. It didn’t move from the back of her closet for two decades. Now, when she does trot it out for ‘80s parties, she gets all the attention she can handle over her “cool” shirt.

Is it what it represents? T-shirts given to finishers of the Boston Marathon may seem cooler than those given out during the hometown 5K walk-a-thon. But for the walker that finished first–maybe not.

Ironic T-shirts are all the rage these days. As a matter of fact, they’re sort of the uniform of the iPod-holding, always-texting, slim-jeans-wearing person–also known as a “hipster.”

Hipster T-shirts are cool and usually carry slogans like:

* I Heart Mix Tapes
* Hugs Are Better Than Drugs
* Wisconsin: Come Sniff Our Dairy Air

What do you think makes for a cool t-shirt? What are your ideas for slogan t-shirts?

How It’s Done: Screen Printing T-Shirts

Silk screen printing is one of the most used and the oldest form of making t-shirts. There are stories and pictures dating back to the 900s about how its origins. It’s considered an art form in Asia and has evolved into America’s classic way to make t-shirts. The basic process of silk screening involves paint or ink being forced through a mesh screen with a stencil with a tool called a squeegee. Silk screening traditionally used screens made of woven silk stretched over a wooden frame. Now, the mesh screens are typically made of polyester. Because polyester fibers are so smooth, they have to be roughed up so the paint and ink will stick. Then, it’s stretched over a steel aluminum frame to prevent rusting. There are some artists that prefer using natural fibers for silk screening. The expense of silk makes it impractical for most. So, some use cotton to make the mesh screens.

Silk screening used to mean hand cutting a stencil and gluing it to a screen. This had to be repeated for every color involved in a design and for every change needed like a different name on different shirts. It was a time consuming process. Now, designs can be printed from a computer. A thermofax stencil is the popular choice for printers. The image is fed through a machine that burns away the image areas for the stencil. Then, it’s ready for ink and paint to pass through.

Inks and paints key to making your t-shirts look their best. It’s a real chemistry experiment for t-shirt makers to coordinate the right ink thickness and the right screen size. It all depends on the level of detail each design requires. If the ink is too thin, it will run and your image will not be clear and defined. If the ink is too thick, it will not easily press through the screen.

Squeegees are very important to the silk screening process. They are similar to the tool you use to clean your windshield at the gas station. Squeegees force the ink and paint through the stencils. Typically, they are made of rubber, plastic or polyurethane depending on what type of ink is used.

The advantage of using silk screening is you can do it on any color t-shirt and any fabric blend. You’ll want to wash your shirts gently for the design to last longer. It’s traditionally an easy and relatively inexpensive way to make large batches of professional looking matching t-shirts. That’s if you have the pros do it for you. There are silk screening kits made just for consumers to give it a try at home. You can find them at craft stores and online. Keep in mind that it’s time consuming to make the stencils and screens for every color you want to use. And, all the ink makes it a messy process. But, trying it on your own might be just the kind of project you and your family have in mind for a creative day.

Lose the Coat and Tie – T-Shirts Find a Home at Work

Forty years ago, a t-shirt at work was about as fish-out-of-water as you could get. Collared shirts, ties, skirts and sweaters were the office uniform and no deviation was allowed. While many offices still have dress-codes, more and more establishments are working to create a work environment focused on professionalism, trust and respect, and less on what you’re wearing.

This trend away from the antiquated notions of “correctness” has slowly integrated itself into the business world over the last few decades. With the rise of multi-million-dollar internet companies built from scratch out of dorm-rooms and lofts, the idea that success must be reflected in ones wardrobe has gone out the window. The dotcom boom produced millionaire college students and silicone valley–one of the wealthiest industries in recent years-is largely run by man-boys in jeans and tees. Now, years later, the results of the dress-down trend that began in the late 80’s can be seen all across America.

Silicone valley is the best example–Steve Jobs wore jeans and mock turtle neck to present the iPhone to the world–but every industry from janitors to high-finance has loosened up the reins on dress-code. Auto mechanics used to wear full jumpsuits emblazoned with their name and company–most now wear a t-shirt and jeans. You never used to see a stock broker without a jacket, but now, many companies feel that their workers are most productive when completely comfortable. If you find yourself working for one of the thousands of companies that welcomes casual dress, why not take the opportunity to thank your employers by making a statement with your clothing.

Personalized t-shirt are always a great way to express yourself. And creating a garment that you and your co-workers appreciate together can raise community moral and bring an office together. Maybe Deborah from accounting is a wiz at drawing; a tasteful–and flattering–caricature of your boss may be the perfect design for office-t-shirts.

Pre-made occupationally focused humor t-shirts can be found in stores and on the internet. A purple vintage inspired t-shirt that reads “Computers are fun and useful!” made a computer programmer in my family very happy. He wears it frequently to inspire jealously–solidarity–among his office mates. Keep an eye out for these types of shirts in stores that cater to the twenty-something crowd and be sure to check the internet for additional options.

Maybe your boss doesn’t believe in comfort in the office, or maybe you simply don’t have anything nice to say about your job–why keep those complaints to yourself! You may have a hilarious piece of occupational humor to share with the world but are uncomfortable sharing it with your office mates. No problem. Friends and family are sure to appreciate a good jab at your boss, or a favorite, perhaps unflattering, co-worker quote. Make yourself a shirt to wear at night, or on the weekends, just be sure not to bump into any office-mates while running errands!

Share Your Favorite TV Show on a Custom T-Shirt

Ok, let’s face it. We all have our favorite TV shows, even if it’s C-Span or the Weather Channel. Ours is a media-saturated culture, and nearly everyone has a TV at home and has at least one or two shows they watch every week, as loyal as a hound dog.

There are lots of popular shows out there, and chances are you like at least one of them. Why not wear a t-shirt that shows it? While you need to be careful about trademark infringement, owning a t-shirt that shares what show you think is the best is a great way to meet others who share the same opinions as you do.

Say you absolutely can’t miss Grey’s Anatomy. You can get a tee that’s got some of those great sayings from Meredith’s monologues. Try “Don’t look at me like that. You’ve seen me naked,” or “Somebody sedate me!” “This is a good day to save lives. Let’s have some fun” is another good one. Maybe you totally dig one of the hot docs on the show. Try a tee that says “I Heart McDreamy”, or “I Heart McSteamy”. These are all examples of t-shirts that won’t fail to find other fans to gossip about the show with.

If you or a friend are big High School Musical fans, you can get a tee that says “EHS”.

Lost fans can get all kinds of tees; try having one printed up in camouflage with the words “Find yourself” typed somewhere on the shirt. Put some of the more popular symbols of the show on your shirt or the Numbers across your chest.

No matter what TV show you adore, there’s a shirt out there for you. Whether you want to go retro and pick a show or character from the past, or want to stay in the present and let the world know what you watch each night on the toob, a great TV show t-shirt is the way to go.

What to Wear to the Cinco ce Mayo Fiesta – A Custom T

Cinco de Mayo, also known as May 5th here in the States, is a day Mexicans celebrate their heritage. The day marks a victory more than 100 years ago by Mexican forces, led by General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguin over the French in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.

It’s interesting to note that while the U.S. celebrates Cinco de Mayo every year, the holiday is virtually ignored in Mexico. The regions in Mexico that do recognize the holiday usually do so with food, music, and dancing.

Here in the U.S., it’s a more elaborate affair. Along with food, music, and dancing, cities with a high percentage of Mexicans take the entire day to highlight their culture with historically significant lectures, cultural demonstrations and other events.

No doubt when you head out to one of the many Cinco de Mayo celebrations this May you’ll see revelers wearing many of the same, generic T-shirts. The best way for you to stand out from the crowd is to create your own custom T-shirt.

It’s simple to custom design your own shirt. Just add a Mexican icon, add text, and you’re set. You can create and wear a new one every year, or stick with a favorite shirt year in and year out.

Here are some icon suggestions for creating your own custom T-shirt for Cinco de Mayo:
* a sombrero
* a margarita
* chili peppers
* maracas
* the flag of Mexico
* the colors of the Mexican flag
* Tequila and/or a worm
* a mariachi band
* a chiuaua
* a pinata
* an acoustic guitar

Now that you have your icon, or your arrangement of icons selected, it’s time to add text to your custom T-shirt. Here are some suggestions:
* Hola!
* made in Mexico
* kiss me, I’m Mexican
* hombre
* chiquita
* I love Mexican boys
* I love Mexican girls
* Fiesta!
* Independence, freedom, pride, Cinco de Mayo
* I “heart” Cinco de Mayo

Once you’ve settled on what you want to put on the shirt, it’s time to select the shirt itself. You have a host of choices, from long and short sleeved for men, women and kids to “girlie” tees to sweatshirts.

Sizes range from XS to 6XL, depending on where you look. There are also hundreds of colors to choose from, but it’s best to keep it simple–you don’t want to drown out the design you spent so much time creating. A good, economical fabric choice is cotton, but just be aware that the shirt will shrink a bit after washing.

It’s a good idea to order you custom T-shirt a couple of months in advance. That way you’ll be sure to get it on time, and if the color, image or fit isn’t want you wanted, you still have time to fix it.

So for this year’s celebration, plan ahead, design and order a custom T-shirt. It’s personal, affordable, and will earn you plenty of attention.

Shop with a Conscience! No Sweat with Custom T-Shirts

Do you know where your clothes are coming from? You’ve seen the stories on the news about millions of toys being recalled because they are made in unsafe conditions overseas. Many of your clothes and t-shirts are being manufactured by men, women, and children working in deplorable conditions for little pay.

You can help stop this trend of sweatshop labor! Join the consumer movement to buy clothing made under fair labor conditions. Anti-sweatshop organizations are joining together to help keep you informed.

You can start helping by looking for t-shirt makers who use workers in the United States. Also, look for businesses who allow their workers around the world to organize into labor unions or worker-owned cooperatives. These groups are working towards safe and healthy working conditions, wages and benefits that can support their families’ basic needs, respectful treatment and the freedom to participate in workplace policy making.

You might pay a few bucks more for a shirt. But, many say it’s worth it. It’s a tough life for clothing workers in these poor countries. They work in uncomfortable conditions with no job security. Factories often close shop and move in search of lower labor costs and easier working regulations. Competition to sell cheap clothes to U.S. consumers means wages and working conditions around the world go down.

When it comes to making t-shirts, labor laws around the world are poorly enforced. The International Labor Organization (ILO) created standards but there are not nearly enough inspectors to examine facilities. Most workers do not even know where to go for help. Cheap labor is attractive to foreign investors and corporations. Often companies based in the west, cash in on the availability of workers used to working for low wages without benefits. Typically, these foreign plants are not up to the standards of those in the United States. That often means the buildings do not meet U.S. codes, workers do not have U.S. labor laws around age and work time to protect them and unionizing is almost unheard of.

Luckily we offer American Apparel’s “sweatshop free t-shirts.”

The T-Shirt Curse – Red Sox Fan Buries T-Shirt at New Yankee Stadium

Red Sox

A Red Sox fan who was a construction worker at the new Yankee Stadium secretly buried a Red Sot T-Shirt right under what is going to be the visitor clubhouse. The buried t-shirt is hoped to jinx the Yankees. The two workers who buried the t-shirt told the New York Post “I don’t want to be responsible for sinking the franchise”. The identities of the workers have been held because they aren’t allowed to talk to the media. Will the buried t-shirt result in a curse? “Baseball historians said these kinds of superstitions are not something to be scoffed at.” Only time will tell. Heat Press

How It’s Done: Heat Press T-Shirt Printing

Heat PressYou remember iron-on patches. That same low-tech method our mothers and grandmothers used to do a quick repair on our jeans is still one of the most popular ways to put images on t-shirts, but new technology is making it easier to make your own designs. Instead of making your first stop the fabric or craft store, head to the computer or office supply store. There you’ll find that t-shirt making is going high tech. New printers, transfer paper, inks, and computer programs are making designing and printing your own t-shirts at home easier than ever. Start with the right transfer paper for your printer. Check the package and be sure it’s compatible. The pros say it’s easier to transfer images to light colored shirts. If you are planning on using a dark t-shirt, there is paper specifically designed for those colors.

While you’re at the computer store, check out programs that design shirts for you! They come with images, graphics, fonts, frames and more. The programs help you pick the right image size for where you want the design to go on your shirt. You might want a larger image if it’s on the back than on the front. Or, something small if it’s a simple name or logo over the left front pocket. T-shirt design programs also have photo-editing programs if you want to put a picture on your shirt.

You can also create images on your own or use logos and print them right onto the transfer paper. Just follow the directions that come with the paper. You’ll want to check those directions for heat temperature, too. It’s important that your iron is just right to prevent cracking and to be sure the image adheres to the shirt fabric. New developments in how transfer paper is made and how it works with your printer are solving the cracking problem. But, you want your design to stick for more than one trip through the washing machine. When you wash the fabric, it’s best if you do it by hand or wash it in the gentle cycle so the image does not crack or fade.

The quality of t-shirt is important, too. It used to be that you could only use heat transfer on cotton or cotton blends. Now, new transfer papers allow you to apply heat transfer images to 100% synthetic materials. Again, be sure to check the transfer paper package to be sure which fabrics produce the best results. Heat transfer is an ideal way to make one t-shirt or a small batch of t-shirts at home. You just create the design on your computer, print onto the transfer paper and then iron. It’s easy to make small adjustments like adding a different name for each shirt, making small design changes, or moving where you want the design to be on a shirt. Just make the changes on your computer and reprint onto new transfer paper.

If it sounds like too much work you might want to consider designing your own t-shirt and having us print it using our advanced Direct-to-Garment printing.

Tips for Creating and Caring for Custom Black T-Shirts

Once upon a time T-shirts mostly came in one color–white. Not anymore. Brown, red, navy blue–they’re all mainstream choices today. White is still the first choice for a lot of T-shirt wearers, but black is a fast-becoming a close second.

Why? Black T-shirts are a change from the usual choice, hide stains better, matches just about everything in your closet, and are hugely forgiving if your figure is less than flawless. Some people prefer to stock up on black T-shirts just to simplify their lives. A closet full of one color of clothes means a lot less time fretting about what to wear.

Black T-shirts are also timeless. From the 1950’s to today, black T-shirts are still considered fashionable. Some fashion experts even go so far as to classify them as a “wardrobe staple.”

Plus, “black” could mean all sorts of shades, ranging from the darkest of jet, slate and onyx to lighter colors with names such as “outer space” “dark night” and “rainstorm.”

While black is a good choice for men, since it can be dressed up or down, women have more style options. Ladies T-shirts are offered in scoop neck, V-neck, ballet neck, square neck, sweetheart neck–the list goes on.

Then there are the different fabrics. A couture-level, black, long-sleeved T-shirt could set you back $88 bucks, whereas the same cut and color of shirt costs a measly $15 at the mall. The difference? The designer T-shirt is made from 100% silk, while the mall-bought shirt is made from a cotton/polyester blend. One will look and fit better than the other, but, you get what you pay for, right?

Drawers full of stacks of black T-shirts might be fine for some people, such as Angelina Jolie (who seems like she hasn’t worn a color in two years), but others of us could use a little color to break up the monotony.

Black is the best background to make vibrant colors pop and slogans stick out. The color is also an effective canvas to showcase studs, rhinestones and other faux gems.

The downside to owning and wearing black custom T-shirts is they are prone to fading. And when they do, it’s noticeable.

Here are some tips to keep your black T-shirt black.

* Always wash them in cold water
* Add a little bit of white vinegar the water/detergent mix when you launder it the first time
* Use color-safe detergent
* If you have hard water, add water softener to the mix
* Buy tailor-made products–Woolite has a product specifically for black clothes, for example.
* Don’t dry your T-shirt in the dryer. Instead, hang it outside to dry, but NOT in direct sunlight.
* Be sure to turn your T-shirt inside out before adding it to the wash. (This is a good tip for all of your clothes, actually.)
* To freshen the color, buy black dye tablets and add one during the wash cycle

Custom black T-shirts are a must for any wardrobe. They’re easy to find, comfortable to wear, and can be dressed up or down, winter or summer. Plus, they last a long time–that is, when you take the time to launder them correctly.

Fencing T-Shirts Can Intimidate Others – En Guarde!

Fencers are an interesting group. They get dressed up all in white, wear masks, and then go at each other with their swords. Extremely athletic, they have catlike reflexes and can turn on a dime. You may know someone who is a fencer; you may even be sitting next to one right now. They can be young or old, male or female, of any race or ethnicity. The point is, they’re among us.

How can you tell? Well, aside from thrusting at everyone you pass with a sharp, pointy object to see who can block you, you can’t. Unless, of course, they’re wearing a fencing t-shirt. But we can’t go around requiring fencers to wear special t-shirts to identify themselves, can we? No, probably not, but for the fencer in your life, a custom designed fencing tee is a great gift idea!

This is a sport that has obviously been around for centuries; but it is now gaining popularity among the most unlikely of groups –teenage girls. Yep, they’re picking up their epees, and learning to fight.

For anyone who’s ever had even a small amount of interest in say, pirates, learning to fence is a great way to imitate them. Sci fi enthusiasts might also benefit from fencing lessons, the better to imitate Jedi warriors; and wearing a fencing tee on top of all of that will let the world know that you are prepared for anything and everything.

Some high schools even have fencing teams, and fencing has become an Olympic sport. If you’re a fan, wearing a fencing tee to any exhibition or competition is sure to show everyone present the depth of your support. It will let even the most casual bystander know that you at least know someone else who’s good with a sword, and that you just might be the one with the skills. Chances are, they’ll ask, and that’s a spectacular way to share your excitement for this noble pastime.

Coaches or parents of fencing teams can get matching, custom designed tees for the whole team; this will give the team a feeling of unity and team spirit, which is always important.

I suppose that wearing a fencing tee could give you some measure of security, as well. If a thug is considering you as a mark, wearing a fencing tee that communicates that you know how to handle a weapon may discourage them. I’m not suggesting, of course, that everyone wear one for “protection”. I’m simply suggesting that, should the thug in question take the time to look at your clothing, knowing you are good with a sword may encourage him to move on to easier prey.

Fencing tees come in all styles; from witty sayings to quotes to graphics of fencers, the choices are practically endless. They come in a multitude of styles, colors and fonts (for those with writing) and there are sure to be more than one style that suits you!

Bowl a 300 with Custom Team T-shirts

Bowling is a hobby, sport, and lifestyle for many. Bowling alleys have impressive league sizes with teams of bowlers competing against other teams, and their own high scores. Bowling is so widely popular that there are movies and cartoons dedicated to the sport including the famous Fred Flintstone and King Pin.

As a bowler, you can show your pride outside the bowling alley by wear a custom designed t-shirt. Shirts can be a simplistic design with a simple saying “I bowl” or “Strike!” If you like graphics, you can add a cute graphic of a stick figure bowling or a bowling ball knocking over pins. You can have a shirt that says something about bowling a 300 if you have achieved that feat or are striving to.

If you aren’t a fan of splits, you can have a shirt showing your dislike. Shirts can have two pins with an angry looking bowling ball saying, “Splits make me mad” or something cuter with “split personality”. Shirts can even be designed for gutter balls. “Stay out of the gutter” can mean more than just bowling, so you have more than just a bowling phrase.

If you have a bowling team, consider creating a team t-shirt. Custom bowling t-shirts can reflect the personality of your team. If you enjoy drinking, consider something about bowling for beer or your drinking friends have a bowling problem. “We bowl for the shoes” is a great shirt for women teams since men think all women like are shoes anyway! Simply stating, “bowling diva” can be just as effective. Team shirts are a blast to design and show your pride for your team.

For bowlers with kids, there are great shirts that your kids can wear to show what their dad or mom like to do. “Little bowling buddy” or “future bowler” are just some of the cute phrases that can be printed onto kid’s size shirts or baby onesies. Of course the “my daddy bowls better than your daddy” is also an idea for the little one’s shirts.

If you have a loved one that bowls, you can design a custom bowling t-shirt to show your support and love for them. If your spouse bowls you can say that you like the way he rolls or that real men wear bowling shoes. Parents of bowlers can wear shirts that let those around them know how proud they are of their child.

Creating custom bowling shirts takes a little bit of imagination and creativity. Why not show your pride for your sport? Learning to bowl a perfect game takes time and skill, so show yours off. You can choose from many colors of shirts with lots of different sayings, graphics, and styles. Instead of simply wearing your regular bowling shirt only when you bowl, you can have t-shirts to wear any other day. So expand your wardrobe by creating custom bowling t-shirts that fit your personality and love of the sport. Then everyone will know you are a bowler.

Eco-Fashion

An Example of Eco-Fashion and Idea For Recycling T-Shirts

Eco-Fashion

The Green T Reuse Design Contest was put on by Sew Green who is a non-profit organization in Ithaca who encourages sustainability in fabric, fiber and fashion. There were more than 100 entries in 15 categories by 60 designers from ages under 12 to over 70 and from beginners to professionals. One of the reasons SewGreen believes in this project of reuse and recycling of cotton t-shirts is because of how damaging and intensive it is to grow conventional cotton. Cotton actually uses 25% of the world’s pesticides and herbicides but only takes up 2.4% of the usable farmland. Consumers also tend to frequently dispose of clothes, in fact over 70 pounds of clothing are given awan and 80 percent of those end up in landfills. As of now only about 3 percent of cotton is grown with organic farming methods.

The winners were an eco-fashion team called “the Realitee for Humanitee: Sustainabilitee” from Cornell’s office of Publications and Marketing. They created a series of outfits from over 100 different t-shirts. The items created included a reversible cape, a hat that becomes a drawstring purse, a belt, a dog coat and designer leash. The winning designs will be featured in a gallery in the Communtiy School of Music and Arts from April 4-14 and in a Fashion show on April 27th.

Show Cue Spirit – Create a Billiards T-Shirt

Playing pool is not just an enjoyable evening out on a Friday night after work. Billiard halls are often filled with groups of people surrounding a table, laughing, drinking, and playing pool. Billiards is a great sport that is often overlooked as a mere hobby. True billiard players take great pride in their sport, and can spend a great amount of time and money practicing and competing against others.

If you really love playing pool, you might want to share it with those around you. One fantastic way to show the world your love of the sport is by wearing a shirt designed by you. Custom billiard t-shirts are a blast to create. Some simple designs include just the normal “I love Billiards” or a simple “Rack ‘Em”.

For male players popular designs are often play on words. “Nice Rack” is one of the most used slogans as is “It takes a lot of balls to play pool the way I do.” Female players can just take pride in that they are women playing pool with “Girls play too” or tell everyone “Stop staring at my rack.” While these shirts may work without graphics, the designs can help others to really understand what you are trying to say. Make a custom billiard t-shirt unique by using colors and graphics to enhance a common pool saying.

Pool sharks don’t usually go around advertising, but that doesn’t mean you can’t create a shirt indicating you are indeed a pool shark. You can even wear a shirt that says you are a hustler, even if you really aren’t, no one will question you. Whether the graphic on your shirt is a shark or you just skip the graphic and simply identify yourself as a hustler, have fun with the design. If you plan on hustling someone though, make sure you wear a different shirt or they just won’t take you seriously.

Oftentimes pool players visit the same pool hall for most of their games. Shirts can be designed with the name of the billiards hall. The shirt can include things such as the city it is in, or what makes that particular hall special. Maybe you love that particular place because the tables seem well kept or you like the color of the felt. Or maybe you just like the other regular players. All of these things can be used for your custom t-shirt.

Family members of a billiards player can show their pride for favorite pool player with custom t-shirts. Spouses of the player can wear shirts similar to athletic equipment shirts with “Property of Hustler” or “Property of Pool Player”. Parents can design shirts that just say that they are a billiards parent. Even the kids can get involved with the sport with shirts designed to say things about being a future player or the child of a player. For a more personalized shirt, family members can include the name of their favorite player as well.

Have fun creating a billiards t-shirt. Whether the shirt is for yourself or a loved one, you can capture the essence of the sport and the player by customizing a shirt with various graphics and sayings.

Custom T-Shirts Can Boost Your Fundraising Efforts

Do you have an event or a cause that you need to raise money for? Need an extra boost to get people to stop and listen and consider donating money? Fundraising can be hard to do. People are usually not too excited about giving their money away. Sometimes it is because they just cannot afford it. But many other times, it is because they don’t know for sure where their donation will go. Based on a first impression, they might not trust the person asking them for money. Or, they might just not believe in the cause.

What can you do, as a fundraiser, to change people’s minds and get them to contribute to your cause?

One great way to advertise your cause and fundraise in a friendly, clever, and informative way, is to design your own custom t-shirts. In this way, you can draw people in with a creative logo, image, or slogan on the front of the t-shirt. You can then inform them about your cause, either with information on the front of your t-shirt, on the back of your t-shirt, or by following up with a dialogue of your own. They will already have been introduced to the topic by your t-shirt, so chances are they will feel more comfortable about hearing what you have to say. They already know you are serious, because you have already spent time and money making your t-shirt.

Another way to use t-shirts to help fundraise is by actually selling t-shirts in order to raise money. For example, if you are in a play, and the theatre company that is producing the play needs money in order to fund the production, a great way to raise money is to design custom t-shirts advertising the play or the theatre company, and selling them to interested people in the community. You can advertise the play by featuring it on the t-shirt, and wear the t-shirts yourselves as a company in order to draw people in. Then, you can sell the t-shirts at local events, at the actual show, and on your website, if you have one. This is a great way to raise money because it is not asking for very large donations. You could sell t-shirts for very small amounts of money, especially if you are able to get a good deal on buying in bulk from the t-shirt designers.

This way, people don’t have to commit to much in order to support you. Asking for a small amount of money broaden your support base—all of your friends can come pay a small amount for a cool t-shirt that will help your play get up on stage. Meanwhile, when anyone who buys your shirts wears them out on the street, they will provide free advertisement for your show. So be sure to put all of the relevant information about your show—or whatever your cause is—on the t-shirts. This way, you can get two good deals for the price of one.

Video Games and T-Shirts Now Sold as a Package

Target and Experimental Gameplay Project started a new line of t-shirts that come with independently developed PC games for just $12.

The games are not the standard popular video games. Kevin Allen Jr. who was the one who first spotted these t-shirts and video games at target has a description of some of the games” “there is a game where you’re a little dude with a gigantic head (like, your head has gravity and that effects play) trying to grow a dozen roses so you can attract the attention of a girl with a gigantic head. Or you are a robot spider in some uncertain distant desert future that has to traverse a dangerous landscape all while keeping your egg sac safe for future generations. The games get variously more abstract from there.”
