Push-up bra

How to Decide if a Push-Up Bra is Right for you

Push-up bra

Push-up bras are not just suited for women that have small breasts anymore. Women of all breast shapes and sizes can benefit from push-up bras. A push-up bra can give a much needed lift to sagging breasts and can also create some wanted cleavage for a multitude of breast sizes. For many women, a push-up bra is the perfect solution to give the appearance of fuller, shapelier breasts, without having to go through cosmetic surgery. There are times however when a push-up bra may not be right for you, so how do you know if a push-up bra is the way you want to go?

Many women choose a push-up bra because they want a more flattering side profile or silhouette. In order to create what many consider the most flattering of silhouettes, your nipples should sit half way between your elbow and your shoulder. If your breasts are naturally much lower than this, a push-up bra is the perfect solution.

Many times knowing if a push-up bra is for you or not comes down to overall comfort. If you are wearing a push-up bra it is obviously going to ‘push’ on your breasts. Wearing the wrong type of push-up bra may do you more harm than good. Sure your breasts will receive a lift, but at the expense of your comfort.

The type of push-up bra you need comes down to how well endowed you are:

•    Flat Chest: If you weren’t given much to work with in the first place, then a push-up bra can be a nice way to make due with what you have. In your case, a padded push up bra will not only give your breasts a boost, but it can add to the overall volume appearance. There are even some types of padded push up bras that are filled with air, silicone, or other types of filling that can add an entire cup size.

•    Average Chest:
You may not be looking for added volume, but you may be looking for an added boost. You should go with push-up bras that only have padding in the lower third of the bra cup as this will give the lift you desire without adding any volume.

•    Large Chest:
When it comes to breasts, the bigger they are, the lower they fall. Time and gravity will pull full breast downward and a boost up is great for your confidence as well as your appearance. No need for any padding here, just stick to a supportive contour to get the desired lift you are after. Another consideration for you is to get a push-up bra with padded straps as this will help distribute the weight of your breasts better and keep you more comfortable.

Not sure what you are looking for, you can always go to a pro. There are a number of stores and boutiques that offer a wide range of push-up bra styles. When all else fails, ask one of the sales associates for help.

Just remember, when it comes to push-up bras, comfort is king. There is no reason to have your breast lifted if you are going to be in pain the entire time the push-up bra is on.

Kimono

How to Wear a Kimono

Kimono

Although many people think that a kimono is nothing more than a really fancy looking bathrobe, to the Japanese it is anything but. Unlike your bathrobe that you may just throw on to fetch the morning paper and not give any thought as to how you are doing it, wearing a kimono is a process and some steps even have a specific purpose or meaning.

If you want to properly wear a kimono you must have a little patience and a few articles accessories to go with it. Here are the proper steps to properly wear a kimono in the traditional Japanese way:

1.    Put on white socks first: Once your kimono is on and on properly, you will find it difficult to get to your feet, so save yourself the hassle and put your socks on first.

2.    Put on the Juban: The Juban is the white slip that actually goes under the kimono and features a collar. Once the kimono is on, only the collared part of the Juban will be visible. For this reason, you can now buy a Juban that is shorter and still features the collar, though it is not traditional.

3.    Put on the kimono:
Put your kimono on much like you would a bathrobe. Make sure that the seam on the back if the kimono is lined up with the center of your back. Wrap the right side of the kimono over you and then overlap it with the left side. This is a very important step and it actually signifies that you are living. When wrapped the opposite way it means that you are a corpse at a traditional Japanese funeral. At this point you will notice that the kimono is too long. No you didn’t get the wrong size; it is designed to be that way. When the kimono is in place, be sure that the collar of the Juban is visible and even around the neck area.

4.    Use your koshi-himo: A koshi-himo is a belt and you will need it for this next step. Pull up the excess kimono material until the kimono is even with your ankles. Now tie the koshi-himo around you and allow the extra fabric to hang over it. Be sure that the hanging fabric is even all the way around.

5.    Use your date-jime: A date-jime is the second type of belt you will need when putting on your kimono. Take the date-jime and wrap it over your mid section so that you can tie it in the back. Place it over the koshi-himo on the outside of the fabric but make sure that the fabric is still visible by a couple of inches. Once in the back, tie the date-jime and bring the ends to the front and then tie it once more. Tuck the ends under in a secure fashion to hold it in place.

Once everything is secure, make one last check to ensure everything is even and you are ready to go in your kimono worn the traditional Japanese way.

Seasons

Tips for Dressing Fashionably Between Seasons

Seasons

There is perhaps no better time to dress up than in between seasons. When you think about it, what could be better? Unlike the winter or summer months, in that in between time you are not confined to a certain part of your wardrobe due to the weather. It is for this reason that the time between seasons should be the time were you decide to dress a little bit riskier and take some chances that you may not otherwise take.

Dressing in between the seasons can offer you a whole host of options that you may not otherwise have. Here are a few tips for dressing in the off-season so to speak:

•    Combine the seasons: Because it is not winter the days and nights will be cool but not freezing and because it is not summer the days and nights will be warm but not hot. This is the perfect opportunity to combine the fashions of the different seasons. While it may be cold enough for you to still wear a jacket, it may not be so cold that you can’t wear a nice summer top underneath of that jacket. If it’s too hot for a jacket, you can break out some cool sweaters and wear those. No matter what the weather, a nice looking leather jacket is almost always a great compliment to any outfit and can easily be removed if the weather so dictates.
•    Mix it up with skirts: If you ladies find that it is still a little too cold for just a skirt, you can mix it up by wearing a really hip pair of leggings. This will allow you the warmth you need and still let you wear that sexy skirt you’ve been dying to break out. If you don’t like leggings, try wearing some hosiery provided it isn’t too cold.
•    Use layers: This is for that time where the weather doesn’t know if it wants to be hot or cold. Start off the morning by wearing great looking tops that can be layered and pair them off with a really nice pair of jeans or pants. As the weather heats up, if it does, you can begin to ‘peel off’ layers. This technique will keep you cooler and will also have you constantly changing your look throughout the day. If the weather begins to cool as the day goes on, add the layers back in any fashionable way you like.
•    Get funky with accessories: There is not a lot of times during the year were you can wear light and fancy scarves, leggings, and gloves that have the fingers cut away, but the off-season is the perfect time. Wear things that you normally don’t get a chance to wear and remember to get funky with it an experiment a little bit. Who knows, you may actually start a new trend.

When the off-season comes, enjoy it. There are too many other times of the year where you are forced to dress one way or another. When your opportunity comes to let loose, go for it, you only live once.

Broad shoulder

How to Downplay Broad Shoulders

Broad shoulder

For many women having broad shoulders is a hassle that they wish they could live without. If you too have broad shoulders and wish to downplay them there are several ways in which this can be accomplished simply by being aware of what you are wearing. This doesn’t mean you have to go fashionless either as there are many styles available today that make you look great without putting an emphasis on your broad shoulders.

While the fashion world offers many articles of clothing designed to draw attention to the shoulders and bolster their appearance, there are also equal opportunities to hide your broad shoulders. Here are some ways to downplay your broad shoulders:

•    Watch your neckline: Wearing tops that have a rounded neck or even a boat line neck will actually make your shoulders look bigger that they already are. Instead try wearing a nice v-neck top as this will give the appearance of your shoulders being narrower and thus smaller. The deeper the v-neck the better the appearance, just don’t go to risqué.

•    Watch your sleeves: Avoid sleeves that are poofy or frilly. The idea is to not draw attention to your shoulders. Wearing these types of sleeves will have the opposite effect of what you are trying to accomplish. Instead try tops that have normal sleeves such as raglan sleeves.

•    Watch your top patterns: Avoid shiny colors and horizontal stripes as these will have a widening effect on you and only make your situation worse. Instead try to stay with a darker colored top that is a solid clolor.

•    Mix and match: To draw attention from your shoulders you can also mix and match your outfits to out more emphasis on your hips. Try wearing a lighter colored bottom with your darker colored top. You can also go with horizontal stripes on the bottom in the form of a skirt as this will give a widening effect to your bottom half and thus look more proportionate to your shoulders.

•    No pads: Many business jackets come equipped with shoulder pads which is great for those who need a boost, but not for you. Most of the time, the shoulder pads can be removed, if not cut them out, but whatever you do, stay far, far away from shoulder pads unless you want to come off looking like a linebacker in the NFL.

•    Accessorize your lower half:
Try wearing belts and sashes that are a little on the wild side. This will help take the attention off of your shoulders and throw it once again to your hips. The result will be a more balanced illusion.

•    Look longer: Make your body look longer by wearing dresses that are long. This will give off the impression of a softer, longer, and leaner body and will detract from the fact that you have broad shoulders.

Having broad shoulders isn’t anything to be ashamed of, but if you don’t want to show them to the world following any of these tips is a great way to conceal what you want to keep secret.

Hiding cellulite

Guide to Clothing Styles that Hide Cellulite

Hiding cellulite

It is estimated that cellulite affects 90 percent of women today. Cellulite can be embarrassing as it is sometimes referred to as ‘cottage cheese’ or ‘golf ball’ syndrome, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t something you can do about it. While it should be noted that there is no ‘magic pills’ or special cellulite reducing creams that work, there is something you can do to hide cellulite when you are out and about.

Just because you have cellulite doesn’t mean that you have to show it off to the rest of the world. Here are some ways to hide the unsightly stuff and still look great:

•    Pants and jeans: Tight is not your friend. Don’t try to squeeze yourself into a pair of pants as this will not be flattering to your figure and will actually help show your flaws instead of hide them. You should also be sure to stick with darker colors as lighter colors not only show off cellulite better, but also have a tendency to make your legs look bigger than they actually are. With jeans be sure to get a loose fit instead of a tight fit and leave the hip huggers alone. Avoid skinny jeans at all costs, as bigger legs just don’t look good in them.

•    Shorts: Everyone longs to wear a cute pair of denim short shorts, but having cellulite makes this nearly impossible. Instead try wearing a cute pair of carpris or bermuda shorts. These types of shorts will give you the comfort you want and the coverage you need.

•    Skirts and dresses: When wearing skirts and dresses go for ones that are on the longer side as opposed to the shorter side. This doesn’t mean that they have to go down to your ankles, but wearing a skirt or dress that goes down to the top of your calf will hide all your cellulite and still have you showing off some skin.

•    Beach wear:
Simply putting on a one piece is no solution for trying to hide cellulite. These days there are many bikini combinations that are designed with you in mind. Of course you will want to stay away from regular bottoms and thongs, but you can still get a bikini, just get one that has swimmers shorts or bikini shorts. If you insist on a regular bikini bottom, you can get a bottom skirt that compliments your suit and hides your cellulite as well. There are also a number of wraps that can be purchased that are both fashionable and feasible for hiding cellulite. These are especially nice for the times that you don’t want to go in the water but you do want to stroll down the beach.

Having cellulite can be a pain, but it doesn’t mean you can’t look your best. You are not the only one that has cellulite but that fact shouldn’t stop you from trying to hide it if that is your desire. If done properly it is possible to look great and cover up the cellulite that you don’t want anyone else to see.

Sari

How to Wear a Sari

Sari

The simplicity of a sari makes it popular to women nowadays. This kind of attire is so flexible that it can be worn in different wrap-up styles and can look formal or casual depending on the design. With so many colors and prints available, there’s a sari for every taste. The right sari fabric featuring the perfect print and color will make you the most fashionable and elegant woman at the party.

Choosing the right sari for your occasion is easy. First, think about what kind of event you’ll be attending. Is it formal, like a wedding or society party? Or more casual, like simple family gatherings or a party with friends? A sari can fit in with any party, as long as you choose one that’s appropriate. They vary from elegant drapes to simple drops, from detailed prints to simple ones. Knowing in advance how fancy your party will be will save you from the embarrassment of being underdressed or overdressed.

Choosing the design, print, and fabric for your sari is another thing. For formal and serene occasions like weddings, elegant designs are preferred. Go with warm and classic colors like beige, cream, white with touches of gold and silver. Choose a fabric that compliments your figure best. Slim women should have cotton or silk so as to enhance their curves, while curvier women will prefer chiffon or georgette fabrics.

There are two more crucial pieces you’ll need to choose carefully once you’ve picked a design and fabric type. You’ll need a petticoat and a blouse. The waist-to-floor length petticoat, which shouldn’t be visible outside the Sari, must match the color of sari as closely as possible. If you have a dark fabric sari, any dark color will do, but for lighter ones, stick to a color that’s very close to the sari’s color. The blouse should end below the bust. Look for a blouse that features a very simple design that compliments the elegant drapes your sari makes when you wear it.

Dressing in your sari starts with tucking the plain end of the fabric into the petticoat, preferably on the right side of your navel. Make sure that the whole fabric is gathered on your left side and that the lower end of the fabric is touching the floor. Then wrap it around again enveloping your body from right to left. Starting at the tucked-in end, make equally graceful pleats (the number of pleats depends on the style you want) and tuck them into the petticoat, at the waist, directly opposite the other tucked end.

After that, raise the remaining fabric up under your right arm and over your left shoulder. This way, the level of the safari is at knee-length already. Lastly, you can prevent the pallu, or the loose end of the sari that’s hanging over your left shoulder, from slipping off by fixing it to the blouse with a well-hidden safety pin or two.

Use your imagination to create other wrap-up styles. The possibilities are endless – but make sure you take pictures so you can recreate a winning wrap again. Have fun and be beautiful with your own sari!

Beer Belly

What To Wear To Camouflage A Beer Belly

Beer Belly

The most common places they can be found are backyard barbecues, sporting events, and college campuses. But truth is told they can be found anywhere. Every man has seen one and likely has had one to some degree at one time or another in his life. It’s the beautiful beer belly. Beer bellies were once worn as a proud badge of honor to showcase a social, partying heritage. Those who had them were looked upon as teddy bears or every-man kind of guys. Some people thought beer bellies were actually cute. In modern times, where health clubs and organic food stores are as common as Big Macs once were, a beer belly has suddenly become something that’s seen as shameful or a sign of laziness.

The good news is that a beer belly isn’t always caused by beer. It’s just a term given to an accumulation of fat above the belt. Some men don’t even drink and have a beer belly. High calorie foods and lots of inactivity are sure to be the culprits. Because of genetics and where fat is stored, only men are susceptible. Eating healthy and staying active are obvious preventative measures and most men realize this. What if you’re a man and you’re comfortable with your beer belly but, at certain times, you just wish it wasn’t there? Well as many men that have beer bellies there are as many solutions to hiding the problem. Here are some ideas to camouflage a beer belly.

Loose clothing. As obvious as this may seem, wearing loose clothing can be a quick remedy. Clothing a size or two too big will hide the general outline of your body in all places. But don’t go too baggy as this will make you look bulky.

Wear the right colors. Men, being naturally averse to fashion, usually don’t think of this one. Dressing in two-tones can actually obscure the belly area. Dark colors should be worn for your pants and wear lighter colored shirts. Fashion experts who’ve dealt with the beer belly situation know that many men with beer guts have the look of thin legs. Two-color dressing hides this imbalance and gives a more proportioned look.

Leave your shirt untucked. A slimmer line look can be achieved by simply not tucking in button down shirts. This way the belly overhang is not as evident.

No muscle shirts. Avoid anything tight for that matter. Don’t wear anything too clingy that accentuates things you’d rather not show off.

Stripe the belly away. Always go with vertical stripes. Vertical stripes will make you appear longer and thinner. Horizontal stripes have the opposite effect. Under no circumstances wear a shirt with a large stripe across the chest because upon first glance the eyes of someone else will be directed right to your belly.

Probably the best way to camouflage a beer belly is to wear a smile! If you walk around self-conscious about your beer belly and believe everyone is looking at it then they will be! Be confident and don’t give the beer belly more power over you than it already has.

Black

Why Wear the Color Black

Black

It used to be that you only saw people wearing black at times of sorrow like at a funeral. While this tradition still holds true, black is now seen on a daily basis and why wouldn’t it be? Black is perhaps the most versatile color you can have in your wardrobe. Everything goes with black and there is really no occasion that black doesn’t fit into. Now this isn’t to say that you should dress in all black all the time, but having a healthy sprinkling of black on an almost daily basis is a recipe for good looking.

There are many reasons to wear black besides the fact that you are attending a funeral, here are just a few:

•    Black is sexy: More and more in Hollywood you see the starlets of the Silver Screen wearing long and flowing black gowns on the red carpet and sexy black skirts on the streets. You too can mimic this look as there is nothing more gorgeous than a nice form fitting dress or skirt that is black.
•    Black is bad: Want to increase your bad factor, wear some black. Picture a guy with jeans and a t-shirt, nothing wrong with that right? Now picture that same guy with the same pair of jeans and the same t-shirt only he is also wearing a black leather jacket….bad to the bone huh?
•    Black rocks: This is a no brainer here. If you want to look rocker there is absolutely no better way than to get a great looking pair of black leather pants and top it off with whatever kind of shirt you want. Black leather pants have been and probably always will be a true symbol of those who rock.
•    Black is easy: As eluded too earlier, what color doesn’t go with black? A great looking pair of black pants can easily be paired with any number of shirts in your wardrobe. Black is the easiest color to match because there is nothing that won’t go good with it.
•    Black is forgiving: While there are other easy colors to wear, like white, black is very forgiving in a world where we all rush around. Black hides your mistakes like a drop or two of coffee from your morning comute…try getting that out of white.
•    Black makes a statement: If you want to call attention to yourself there is no better color than black. Sure you could use hot pink or candy apple red, but this will tend to come off as you trying too hard. When you enter a room wearing something that is stunning and black, people will notice but because black is not a ‘loud’ color no one but you will know you where actually looking for that attention.

Black is the most versatile, most well rounded, and by far the easiest color that ever was. No matter where you go or what you do, you can always be sure that you will look your best so long as you let black be part of your fashion equation.

Dark complexion

Best Colors for Dark Complexions – What to Wear and What not to Wear

Dark complexion

When it comes to what color of clothing you should wear you should always consider your complexion. If you have a dark complexion you are in luck as there are full spectrums of colors that will look good on you. There is however no one size fits all rule as there are different levels of what would be considered a ‘dark complexion.’ While the best outfit to wear is always the one you get the most compliments in there are some general guidelines that can help you to determine what to wear and what not to wear with your darker complexion.

If you have a dark complexion there are basically three categories that you will fall in. Determining which category you fall under will help you determine what types of colors are going to look best on you. Here is a quick guide:

1.    Cool Toned: A cool toned individual will have a much darker complexion that the any other type. When you are cool toned, you will find that colors such as red, pink ,blue, and lavender look great with your complexion. On the other side of the fence, you will find that colors such as yellow and orange do not. Cool toned individuals usually find comfort and style with the many different shades of red as well as blues, purple, and maroon.

2.    Warm Toned: A warm toned individual will have a lighter skin complexion in comparison to a cool toned individual but will still have an overall dark complexion. When you are warm toned, you will look great in orange, yellow, and even apricot colors, but you will not look particularly good in the colors that the cool toned individuals look good in. Being warm toned you will want to avoid the darker colors like reds, blues, and even maroon. Choosing earthy colors is usually a safe bet. Colors such as gold, brown, green, orange, and apricot usually fit the bill.

3.    Mixed Tones: This type of skin complexion is both unique and harder to determine which color of clothing looks best with it. The reason is that if you are a mixed tone your complexion will tend to change somewhat throughout the year. You may be one tone in the summer and a totally different tone in the winter. Because of this you can wear all the colors that look good with cool toned and warm toned individuals, you just have to take more care as to what your current tone is before you get dressed. Mixed toned individuals are generally on the warmer toned side but if you can tell when you have a sun burn or people can see you blush, then this describes you.

Whatever color you decide to wear with your dark complexion you should be comfortable in it. It is after all your body you are dressing up. But there is no reason why you can’t feel great and look your best and let some of the colors of the rainbow help you out. Being a darker complexion can be challenging when it comes to deciding what to wear, but knowing your tone ahead of time may help you to decide just a bit easier.

Tomboy

How to Avoid Looking like a Tomboy

Tomboy

A tomboy is defined as a girl that dresses and acts like a boy. This is all fine and dandy in your younger years, but when you start to get older you may not want people thinking that you dress like a tomboy.

While having a tomboy for a companion is probably very enjoyable for most men as they can just hang out and be buddy, buddy, there is always the side of a man that wants to see the softer side of a woman. If you are dressed like a tomboy this can be a difficult thing to see. So how do you avoid looking like a tomboy?

Here are some tips on how you can avoid the tomboy label:

•    Spruce up your hair: The typical tomboy will simply throw on a hat or just let her hair kind of lay flat. Even if you have short hair you can use some gel and spruce it up. With today’s hair fashion, it is easy to find a simple way to make your hair fun, exiting, and feminine. Hats are fine, but save them for sporting events.

•    Ditch the jeans: While jeans are fine for certain occasions, in order to avoid the whole tomboy name calling you will have to wear other garments from time to time. Try wearing a nice formal sun dress the next time you go out. They offer much comfort and there is no way that a dress can come off as tomboyish.

•    Makeup: You may not be used to wearing makeup and that’s ok, but a little bit will go a long way in deterring the tag you don’t want. Some simple blush, eyeliner, and lipstick is usually enough to do the trick. If you want to get more in depth, go to a department store and let them show you how to apply makeup, they are always good for some free tips.

•    Scent of a woman: Try wearing perfume that is less masculine smelling and more feminine smelling. Wear perfumes that have a more floral scent as this is closely related to women.

•    Shoes: nothing screams tomboy like a pair of sneakers. This isn’t to say that you have to start wearing heels with everything, but there a number of ultra comfortable and very feminine looking shoes available these days so you can retire your Nikes.

•    Wear girl t-shirts: The only time you should be wearing a guy’s t-shirt is when you snag one of your boyfriend’s for a cozy pj shirt. If you wear t-shirts made for guys, you will look like a guy. Shop in the women’s section and get t-shirts designed for women, there is a difference.

•    Get your nails done: Another easy trick to squashing the tomboy image is to get a manicure done. You don’t have to have long nails already as you can simply go to a nail salon and they can attach false nails on top of your own. It’s hard to look like a boy if you have long luxurious nails that are painted a nice bright color.

Above all else, don’t lose your fun side. Guys like a girl that can hang with them and talk sports, but just because you like to act like one of the guys, doesn’t mean you have to look like one of them.

Muscle tone

Fashion Tips for Highlighting Your Muscle Tone

Muscle tone

It takes a much disciplined person to keep a strict workout regimen. If you are one of those individuals you should feel proud of yourself and it is only natural that you will want to wear clothing that highlights your muscle tone. Some may call this bragging, but hey, you’ve earned the right to show off what you’ve got and really it’s no different from what many individuals do; show off their greatest assets.

Dressing to highlight your muscle tone is a delicate balance and if not done properly you could come off looking too boastful. Here are some tips to ensure you look great while highlighting your muscle tone:

•    Keep them wondering: The trick with highlighting muscle tone is to bare just the right amount of flesh in all the right places. If you bare too much you will cheapen the look and have people thinking you are trying too hard. This can be accomplished by wearing a short sleeved shirt that fits nicely rather than a sleeveless shirt that screams, ‘look at me everyone!’ You can also show just enough skin to tease people as to what lies beneath. The trick here is to expose some, but not all of the muscle you wish to highlight, for example, wearing a short sleeved shirt that covers half the bicep.

•    Not too tight: You will of course want to wear clothing that is form fitting as this will help you to show off your muscle tone, but be careful that you don’t go too tight. With shirts you don’t want them to be so tight that it looks like it is cutting off the circulation in the arms. Choose a snug fit instead. The same applies for pants and jeans. You will want to go with a slimmer cut that hugs your body better but don’t go too tight like a pair of skinny jeans. If your pants are too tight, you may actually be hiding your muscle tone instead of highlighting it.

•    Nice legs: Both men and women can show off their muscle tone legs easily when in a formal environment. For women, simply wear a nice dress that is not too long and your legs will speak for themselves. Guys can wear a nice pair of cargo shorts that come down just above the knee. Don’t go too short here though as no one want to see a guy in short-shorts.

•    Follow fashion: Wear what’s in style. There are plenty of cloths that can be worn that will highlight your muscle tone that are in current style so instead of wearing clothing that sports the name of the gym you work out at, dress like everyone else. If you dress like you are going to the gym for all occasions you will again cheapen your look and have people thinking you are trying to show off.

It’s totally natural for you in shape individuals to want to show what you have, just be sure to do it the right way. If done properly, you can highlight your muscle tone nicely without looking like you are seeking the attention of everyone in the world.

Younger

Dressing to Look 10 Years Younger

Younger

Nobody wants to get older, but until the fountain of youth is found it is just a sad fact of life that everyone has to deal with. Fortunately for you there is always something you can do to help you look 10 years younger; change the way you dress. Dressing to look 10 years younger is not as hard as might think and there is inspiration everywhere you just have to know where to look.

When dressing to look 10 years younger, you can always look to these individuals for inspiration:

•    News Casters: That’s right; the media darlings that are always in the spotlight are a great source of what’s hot and what’s not in fashion. Beyond that, they tend to dress younger looking as there is always competition from younger members of the media that are fighting to take the camera eye away. Viewing you local news will give you some great ideas.
•    Display Mannequins: These dummies are no dummies. They are dressed with the latest in fashion and are a great place to look when you are trying to accomplish the 10 years younger look. Just be sure that you are looking at the top end department store mannequins as these places usually are a bit more up to date on fashion versus the bargain department stores.
•    Top End Department Store Associates: This is probably the easiest way to actually find someone who is 10 years younger that you and simply emulate their style. These individuals make a great model for you to follow as their job requires them to dress in the latest fashions. If you feel brave you can actually go and talk to the sales associate and ask them questions about how they dress. They will more than likely be flattered and more than willing to help you out.

Equally as important as knowing where to look is knowing were not to look for advice. The following sources will provide you with plenty of advice; it will just be the wrong kind:

•    Teenagers: The biggest mistake most people make when trying to dress 10 years younger is looking to their teenage kids for advice. Your goal is 10 years, not several generations. If you go around looking like your teenager, you will accomplish nothing more than looking like you are trying too hard and are clinging to your youth.
•    Friends your own age: If you want to seek the advice of your friends, make sure that you are asking friends that are younger than you. If you ask someone the same age as you how to look ten years younger, unless they are in the fashion biz, you may be asking for disaster.
•    Wrong department: A huge mistake that many women make is going to the wrong department and looking for clothes. Instead of looking to the Misses section, women should focus on the Junior section because these fashions are going to emulate the latest fashions that the younger generations wear as opposed to the Misses section were fashions may be in style, but tend to have an ‘older’ look.

Don’t stop with the cloths though. You can also achieve that 10 years younger look by accessorizing. Follow the same dos and don’ts for accessories and your youthful look should be easily achieved.

Uniform

Be Cool at School in Your Uniform

Uniform

School uniforms usually don’t make the top of the fashion lists, and they are not always flattering. If you’re bummed that your school’s new uniform policy might interfere with your totally gorgeous looks, don’t worry. There are lot of things you can do to be cool at school in uniform and keep your individuality, even when your clothes look like everyone else’s.

1.    Go with fashionable wardrobe accessories. You can add small wardrobe accents such as a colorful scarf in your school colors, or a cute jacket. If you’re restricted to a certain type of jacket or cardigan, don’t just pick one out of the school catalog. Shop for your own at the mall, and find one in the same color with a better fit and fabric. Try it on before your purchase, or wear your uniform so you can compare different pieces. A cute hat is also a fun addition to your look, but be careful about wearing these indoors since most schools won’t allow it.

2.    Just add jewelry. Find a cool necklace that can become your signature, and maybe a bracelet or two. If you like earrings and are allowed to wear them, pick out some cute dangly ones. If not, go with simple studs that aren’t too big. Watches are another great accessory that can add lots of sparkle and fun to your look.

3.    Experiment with your hair. This is the most individual characteristic you’ve got when you have to wear a uniform, so make the most of it. Try wearing different hair styles and colors. If you have long hair, you can have tons of fun wearing it in braids, ponytails on the side or up high, or in a bun. You could also try different hair colors or highlights, if your school allows it (some schools don’t allow unnatural colors, such as pink, blue, green, etc.). If you can’t dye your hair, go with subtle highlights or lowlights. There are so many possibilities, so don’t wear it the same way every day!

4.    Use hair accessories. Hair accessories can make boring hair look fantastic. Try headbands in different colors and patterns, cute little hairclips, scrunchies, sparkles and colorful rubber bands.

5.    Choose stylish school supplies. The school supplies you use can also become a statement about who you are. Get a great school bag, and decorate it with fun badges, clips, cool keyrings, stickers and personalized sayings. Buy a cute pencil case, and use fun pens, pencils and erasers. Consider covering your books with colorful patterned fabrics.

6.    Wear makeup. Makeup is the perfect way to add polish to your look, and can also be a good pick-me-up on a bad day. Go with a little eyeliner, some light mascara, a bit of blush and some colored lip gloss. If your school has strict guidelines regarding makeup, use very neutral shades. Try a tinted chapstick, a hint of blush and a little mascara.

7.    Smile! A genuine smile and self-confidence are the best accessories you can have, no matter what you’re wearing. Be yourself, and you will be beautiful!

How to Break in Jeans

Jeans 1

You have just worn yet another hole into your favorite pair of jeans and you know it time for them to be retired. You rush off to the department store and grab the same brand and the same size you just had and go back home happy with your purchase. Once at home you put on the jeans and whoa! The jeans are so tight you feel like you need to grease yourself just to get into them. No you didn’t get the wrong size; you just have to break in the new jeans.

Breaking in new jeans is a process that takes just a bit of time. Following these simple tips will have your new pair of jeans fitting like your old favorites in no time:

•   Wash the jeans: Most jeans will say to wash them in cold water with like colors. Why? Hot water will actually soften up your jeans. Wash your new jeans in hot water and dry them, but not completely. While still damp, put the jeans on and walk around with them. This will help the jeans conform to your body.
•   Roll the jeans: Match up the pant legs of the jeans and start at the bottom to create a tight roll. The tighter you roll the jeans the better. As you unroll them be sure to pull at the denim as this will help to stretch the fibers and give you jeans a better overall fit.
•   Beat the jeans: Wash the jeans again in hot water. When you put them I the dryer throw on some sneakers and walk away. Make sure that the sneakers are not old and nasty. Besides clean sneakers, make sure the sneakers are safe to put in the dryer.  Having the sneakers in the dryer with the jeans will create a constant pounding on the jeans and that beating will loosen up the material so that the jeans will better fit you.
•    Wear the jeans: With every use the jeans will fit better and better. Constant wearing of the jeans will produce a comfortable fit faster. While they may not feel cozy at first over time the constant wearing of the jeans will have them hugging your legs and conforming to your shape.
•    Exercise the jeans: This sounds silly, but it works. Put the jeans on and do some jumping jacks. You can also do some deep squats or any other type of exercise where the material in the jeans will get a good stretch. The welcomed side effect here is some extra calories getting burned which can also help you fit into the jeans better.
•   Be patient: You may have to do these steps several times to accomplish your goal of breaking in the jeans. Even after you do though, keep in mind they will not fit like your old favorite pair for a while. Have a little patience and in time your new jeans will become just as cozy and form fitting as your old ones were and you will never think of the old ones again.

1980s

How to Dress 80’s

1980s

In the 80’s, moderation was the key to nothing. The 80’s was known for its extremes in clothing styles. If it wasn’t bright and attention-getting, it wasn’t worth wearing. Some of the most well-known 80’s styles involve neon colors, strange clothing combinations and plenty of random splashes of color.

Tops

There were several interesting styles of 80’s tops that were popular. These included the asymmetrical top which had only one sleeve and the off-the-shoulder shirts which were pulled down off the shoulders but worn with long sleeves. Wearing either one of these shirts is a way to start an 80’s ensemble.

Crop tops were also big throughout the 80’s. Some crop tops had a solid color under them with a different color mesh over it. This would often be a contrasting color such as a pink crop top with white mesh laid over it.

Shirts were often neon colored and bright enough to burn the retinas. For a very authentic 80’s look, wear a neon yellow shirt with paint splattered all over it. Paint splatter was a very popular style that could be found on shirts, pants, handbags, shoes and everything else worn in the 80’s.

Another interesting 80’s fashion was the Hypercolor shirt. The shirt changed colors with the air temperature and with the wearer’s body temperature in different areas. This often led to embarrassing darker colors under the arms, but it’s an authentic 80’s look if you can find it.

Socks

The 80’s was all about socks. The more pairs of socks you can wear, the more authentic your look will be. You can pair two or three different pairs of slouch socks stacked so that the top of each is visible for a true 80’s fashion. Once you have on your pairs of socks, put on legwarmers so that they come down just above the socks. Make sure all of the socks are brightly colored, polka dotted or paint splattered.

Belts

Everyone loved to wear belts in the 80’s. It didn’t matter if you actually needed to wear a belt or not. It also didn’t matter if you were already wearing one. Wearing two or three belts at the same time was considered perfectly normal. If you wear the layered belt look, try to position them so that they crisscross each other across your middle. Make sure all the belts are visible just like all of your pairs of socks. The belts can be thick or thin, but thin belts together usually look best.

Shorts and Skirts

Miniskirts and surfing shorts were the hot items throughout most of the 80’s. Girls wore checkered, striped, polka dotted or neon miniskirts. In the summer, everyone wore Jams. The more pairs of Jams you have, the better the look will be. The Jams should be extremely brightly colored and should go down to your knees. These shorts can be worn with a Hawaiian-style shirt or with a brightly colored crew neck t-shirt. If you do choose to wear jeans instead of Jams, make sure they are tapered jeans that are as light blue as possible.

Gala

What to Wear to a Gala Event

Gala

Gala events are held in practically every part of the world. Many such events celebrate wonderful traditions, events, rituals or achievements. In fact, a gala may be held for any number of reasons: as a Christmas party, a retirement celebration, the opening or closing of a big event, a charity fundraiser and much more. Knowing how to dress for a gala event is something that many people find themselves wondering on occasion. While there are many people who seem to make a career out of attending galas and the like, many other people find themselves on the guest list of a gala rather infrequently, or even just once in their lives. It is these people who sit and wonder exactly what to wear to such an event.

Dressing for a gala event is rather simple. It is typically a formal wear occasion. For men, that equates to a tuxedo or at the very least a suit and tie. For women, formal wear is typically a long gown with high heels, matching accessories and jewelry. By donning such outfits you are sure to blend in seamlessly and have a great time.

The season that the gala event will be held in will impact the way you dress. Galas held in the winter typically require darker, heavier weight gowns. Pantyhose for warmth are usual. Shoes are often more closed and sturdier than other times of the year. Stoles, shawls and wraps are a common and necessary addition to your wintertime gala wear. Remember to choose something that adds to your outfit rather than takes away from it. For men, winter galas mean dark colors and heavy weight suit fabric.

In summer, gala events are often outdoors. While long formalwear is still required, more filmy, lightweight fabric in lighter colors is a suitable option. Choose an outfit that is airy and shows off a little skin. Sandal-like high heels are perfect for warm weather galas. Skip the stockings in order to stay cool. For guys, your choice of formalwear is much wider in the warmer months. You can choose from lighter colors or stay with darker ones, just be sure to choose light weight fabrics for comfort.

If you are looking to outfit yourself or someone close to you for a gala event, there are many options for where to find the right outfit. You can rent formal wear. You can invest in it which is a good idea if you plan to wear it more than once. You can also seek out gently used secondhand formal wear of which there is abundance. Get your gala formal wear today and be ready for any gala event that comes your way. Take confidence and pride in the fact that you are appropriately put together for the big event.

Change style

How Can I Gradually Change My Style Without People Noticing Right Away?

Change style

There are many times in life when a person wants to change their style. Sometimes it’s because the styles have changed and you want to adapt to the latest fashions. Other times it may be because you see a style that you want to incorporate into your own style. Sometimes it’s because you just tire of your usual look and you want a dramatic change. When you change your style, changing it gradually is certainly preferable to changing it overnight and confusing those around you. It also makes the progression to your new style look more natural and less planned.

One of the ways to gradually change your style is to start by changing the accessories only. You can change your watch, earrings, belts, scarves, etc., to your new style without changing the look of any of the rest of your clothes. This is a subtle way of making your outfits look a little different without making too many obvious changes that will stand out right away.

As people adjust to your new accessories, you can slowly start to add other pieces that match the style of those accessories. You can start by changing the type of shirts you wear and eventually changing the type of pants or skirts that you wear to match the style of shirts. This introduces a gradual change that eventually all fits together as a cohesive look.

Another way to gradually change your style slowly without causing too much attention to it is to change the style of your shoes first. Wear shoes that are a part of your new look, even if they don’t look quite right with your old style. The shoes will pave the way for the rest of the outfit that will follow gradually. Wait at least a few days before adding any additional changes to your look. When you do add changes, start small. Start by changing colors or accessories to match your new style in shoes. Then, you can change your entire outfit to match those pieces.

One way that many people change their look is to ease into the new style by wearing a toned-down version of the new look for a while as a transition into the new look. This is a way to bridge the gap between your old look and your new look and will serve to keep the change of style from being too noticeable to those around you.

If your new look will involve wearing bright colors, start with muted colors or only one piece that has bright colors. If you are transitioning to wearing darker clothes, gradually wear darker hues until you get to the colors you want. If you want to start an entirely new style of clothing, such as transitioning from pants to dresses, start wearing the new style once a week, then more and more often until you are wearing your new style every day of the week. BY the time you are wearing it every day, it will have seemed like a natural progression to those around you.

Golf

What About Golf and Country Club Dress Codes?

Golf

Unlike sports such as football and basketball which are played by the masses, golf has a reputation as a rather snooty sport enjoyed primarily by the upper-class. While this isn’t true, there are certain practices associated with golf that help maintain its distinguished image. First of all, golf can only be played on specially designed and maintained golf courses, and these aren’t always readily available. There are also numerous costs associated with playing golf, such as club membership fees, equipment costs and apparel costs.

The upscale image associated with golf is also due in part to the dress worn by players. In fact, many golf courses have a dress code to ensure that players meet certain dress requirements. If you are new to the golf course scene, here are a few things to keep in mind regarding golf dress codes.

First, not all golf courses have a dress code. If you are headed to a municipal golf course (one owned and operated by a town or city), there probably will not be dress requirements. T-shirts and shorts will be acceptable on the course, though going shirtless or dressing in swimwear is probably not a smart idea. For private courses, there generally is a dress code. The more upscale and expensive the course, the stricter the dress code will be.

For the largest percentage of courses, a collared shirt and Dockers-style shorts will be the standard golfing ensemble. Modest skirts are also acceptable for ladies. Many will allow denim shorts, but a smaller percentage will have a no-denim policy. It’s a safe bet that those who show up in t-shirts, tank tops, cut-off shorts, short shorts (more than 4 inches above the knee), sweatshirts and casual athletic wear will not be allowed on the course. The most exclusive, upscale golf courses will have a no-shorts policy, so be sure to check with your respective course prior to tee time.

The centerpiece for most country clubs is a beautiful golf course, so a country club dress code generally follows the golf course dress code. During the day, patrons will be welcome to wear in the clubhouse whatever they would wear on the golf course, such as a collared shirt, shorts, skirt or slacks. For daytime events such as brunches, lunches or dinners prior to 7:00PM, semi-casual attire should be worn. This would include an informal dress, blouse, knee-length skirt or slacks for ladies, and a button-down shirt and slacks with an optional sport coat for men.

For dinners after 7:00PM or similar evening events, a nice dress or slacks with coordinating accessories should be worn by ladies. Men would be considered well-dressed in a sport coat, dress shirt and slacks. A tie is optional.

In general, dress for a golf course should always be tasteful and modest. Golf courses and country clubs frequently host special events, so if you will be in attendance at a special gala or other event, check beforehand with your club’s concierge to confirm the dress requirements.

Interview

How to Dress for an Interview

Interview

The way you dress for a job interview gives your potential boss a lot of information about you. They want to see someone who is dedicated and hard-working and who knows what they’re doing. If you come dressed properly for  a job interview, your potential boss will assume that you have no idea how to conduct yourself in an interview and may judge you pretty harshly. To avoid this, always dress very professionally, no matter what the actual job is.

Suits

No matter what the job title is, you need to wear a suit to an interview. This doesn’t have to mean a dark blue suit that lacks imagination, but it does mean that there is no substitute for a professional-looking suit.

If you are a man, wear a suit in a solid color and wear a long-sleeved shirt under it. Always wear a belt with your pants and have on a tie. No one will know if you have on a clip on tie, so it’s okay to go that route. Make sure you have on dark-colored socks and a dark-colored leather shoe. Never pair white socks with your shoes and never wear white or beige shoes to an interview.

If you are woman, you also must wear suit. It may not make you look your most fashionable, but it is necessary for projecting a professional image. A skirt suit is usually what is most appropriate, but it is perfectly acceptable to wear a pants suit as well. If you wear a skirt suit, make sure the skirt is not too short or you will ruin the professional image. If you wear a pants suit, make sure the pants are long enough to give you a slight break. This will make the length acceptable when you’re sitting down. You don’t want the pants to look like cropped pants no matter what position you’re in.

Wear a blouse that coordinates well with your skirt or pants. Wear very little jewelry, or no jewelry at all if none of your jewelry is professional looking. Any earrings should be no larger than a dime. If you are wearing a skirt, make sure you are wearing pantyhose. It may be out of style in many cases to wear pantyhose, but it is necessary during the interview process. Your shoes can be either flats or heels. Heels stand to look a little bit more professional, but a good pair of flats that match the outfit well and are in good condition can also be appropriate.

Ties

Ties for women went out in the 70s. Don’t wear one to interview. For men, make sure your tie is conservative. It should coordinate well with your suit as long as it is not too attention-getting. Stripes or even polka dots are acceptable for a tie as long as the pattern is small and the colors are neutral. Keep the width of your tie to current fashions. Ties that are too wide will look old-fashioned. A tie that is too thin may not look professional enough.

Disc golf

What to Wear When Playing Disc Golf

Disc golf

The sport of disc golf is one of the world’s fastest growing sports because it can be played by people of any age and fitness level. Disc golf developed informally with people using Frisbees and tossing them into targets such as trash cans, trees or whatever happened to be nearby. Those games gradually evolved into the game of disc golf. It’s a sport that is easy to learn and lots of fun, making disc golf courses increasingly popular among families and individuals of all ages.

Disc golf has similarities to standard golf, but rather than using golf balls and clubs and hitting a ball into a hole, players use discs and aim into a basket mounted at a “disc pole hole.” The goal is to start from the tee area and complete each hole in the fewest number of throws. A disc golf course usually has nine or 18 holes, and the player that completes the course with the fewest number of throws wins.

One of the unique aspects of disc golf is that a course can utilize almost any terrain. Where traditional golf requires flat and gently rolling landscapes that are meticulously maintained, disc golf can be played regardless of hills, trees, rocks, waterways and other natural obstacles. It can often make use of land that cannot be utilized for other sports, buildings or developments. There are also few maintenance and upkeep costs associated with disc golf courses, which makes it an attractive option for communities and recreational facilities.

If you are new to the sport of disc golf, you are definitely in for a good time. Being outdoors, enjoying nature and having fun with friends may make it your new favorite hobby! Disc golf is far less pretentious than traditional golf, so clothing is comfortable and low-key. Because there are lunging and throwing movements involved, you should choose clothing that is loose, similar to what you would wear for athletics. You should also wear items that you don’t mind getting dirty in. T-shirts and shorts are totally acceptable attire for disc golf.

Shoes are another important consideration when playing disc golf. Disc golf courses often include rugged terrain, and the course can be wet, muddy, hot or anything in between. Tennis shoes will work, but professionals use shoes that are rugged enough to withstand lots of wear-and-tear and that are also waterproof.

If you are starting your game in the morning and playing into the day, you should dress in layers so that if you start to get hot, you can remove a layer of clothing. On the flip side, if you start in the middle of the day and play into the evening, you should consider bringing a jacket for when the temperatures begin to cool down.

Proper head apparel can both protect you from the sun’s rays and help improve your play. A baseball cap is suitable, while a visor will keep the sun out of your eyes and allow your head to breathe. Sunscreen is also essential, so plan ahead to truly enjoy this great sport!
