Dog Lovers Wear Pictures of their Dogs on T-Shirts

Emily S. loves her Pekingese, Pepper. So much, in fact, that she had her beloved pooch’s picture screened onto a cream-colored T-shirt, which she wears proudly to the local dog park at least once a week.

“It never fails to generate some sort of comment from somebody,” she said. “Either from someone who has a Pekingese of their own or knows someone who does.”
Around 50 million people own dogs in the U.S., and a healthy number of dogs owned are of the pure-bred variety. You know, the ones seen parading around on televised dog shows around the holidays.

Some pure-bred owners keep their pup’s pedigrees in safe storage, and that’s the end of it. Others are involved in online and real-life communities that celebrate certain breeds. However, there are some “Dog Fancy” aficionados who are taking their love for Man’s Best Friend a step further, by designing and donning T-shirts, sweatshirts–even baby onsies–emblazoned with Fido’s face.

You may want to add some graphics to enhance your picture. Food bowls, fire hydrants, bones and frisbees are common additions. You can even include text, such as the name of your dog.

Other variations include:
* Mutt lover
* I didn’t do it
* World’s Best (insert name of breed here)
* My (breed name) is smarter than your honor student
* (Name of your dog) is a happy mutt
* Have you hugged your (breed name) today?

Joel B., owner of Rocco, a Chinese pug, said he sometimes tunes into a dog show to see how the pug is faring in the toy category, but he’s not the type to wear a shirt with Rocco’s picture on it. “Maybe if it was tiny, like the Lacoste alligator or something,” he said. However, that doesn’t stop well-meaning friends and family members from gifting him with T-shirts, ties — even boxer shorts adorned with Rocco’s pug mug. He finally gave in one Christmas and wore the T-shirt to Christmas Eve dinner. But his pug-loving family hardly spared him a glance–they were too busy oohing and aahing over Rocco, who was wearing a doggy T-shirt adorned with Joel’s picture. “We took a lot of pictures that night,” he said.

Plenty of dog owners are sharing their love for their pet to the world by putting their picture on T-shirts. You can order them and once you wear it out and about, get ready to answer all sorts of questions about your dog. Not that you’ll mind, right?

Use T-Shirts for Unique Fundraising Opportunities

Fund-raising. Ugh. There aren’t many hyphenated words that send such a shiver down my spine. I used to really get into it; I always sold the most hoagies and doughnuts for marching band in high school. I even (gasp!) went door-to-door in my old neighborhood selling candles and wrapping paper when I was a 10 year old. I don’t know if it was a lot safer 25 years ago, or if people were more trusting, but out I went, the youngest traveling salesman in the neighborhood. Ironically as an adult, I absolutely despise attending or participating in almost every kind of fund-raising activity. If you feel the same way, but still need some fund-raising ideas, this one just might inspire you to hit the pavement (or at least hit up your family, friends, and coworkers).

How about selling t-shirts as a fund-raiser? Because t-shirts are so cheap to produce and to print on, this is a virtual money-maker that can’t’ lose. Everyone needs clothes, and lots of people hate going to the store. It’s hard to turn down a good bargain, and that’s exactly what a fund-raising t-shirt is–a high-quality article of clothing for a great price. Who wouldn’t like that?

OK, so what’s the hook? Maybe it’s supporting a charity. Every charity has its supporters–from breast cancer research to Alzheimer’s to fair trade to saving the environment–and can always use more funds to continue their work. Hosting a t-shirt drive is one way these organizations can raise money at the local level. Why not buy a t-shirt emblazoned with the symbol of the cause you feel strongly about? You most likely want to get others involved in your charity and buying a t-shirt through a charity fund-raiser is a great way to do it.

What if your kids’ school is trying to raise money for new playground equipment or new books for the library? Selling t-shirts is the way to go! Teachers, especially elementary ones, like for their classes to all wear the same tee on field trips–it makes it easy to identify them in a crowd–and it’s an easy way to raise money for the school. Bearing the name of the school, maybe it’s mascot or theme, and perhaps the school song, this tee is sure to be worn by everyone in the school; students, teachers, staff, administrators, and even parents or grandparents.

Maybe your church’s youth group is hoping to take a trip out of the area to do some mission work or to go to camp. Again, this is a great opportunity to sell some t-shirts. Church congregations are nearly captive audiences to the sales pitch, and are eager to help support the young people who attend their church. Groups of teens who are engaged in something helpful such as a mission trip, or who are staying out of trouble and learning more about their faith are activities that the adults of a church will support. If that means buying a t-shirt or two, there’s no doubt that they’ll do so.

There are many fund-raising opportunities in which selling t-shirts is a great way to go. It’s unique, inexpensive to supply, and cheap to purchase, plus, it gives people something tangible for their support.

Become a Human Billboard – Put a Custom Shirt On!

Back in the day, (well before I was born), folks driving down the road were spared the visual accostment of huge, garish billboards. If a local company wanted to put themselves out there on the road, they did so with smaller, eye-level signs along the road, often spread out over a mile or two, which the driver would read as he came to them. These road signs were usually brief and had the product’s or company’s jingle on them. These days, when we drive down the road, we are accosted by literally hundreds of these signs every day. No matter where you drive, whether it’s along county or city roads or on the big interstates, you will see billboards. You can’t avoid them. They might even flash. Some rotate within themselves, so you can see 3 different messages at one time. All of this is a problem, not to mention the high leasing costs for the billboard space, and getting the whole ad up there in the first place.

Another way companies and business owners try to advertise their businesses or services is to hire people to walk around a street corner wearing a sandwich board. Used to be that the only way to advertise was to find someone willing to wear two heavy boards on each side of their body touting the product and where to find it. Not only is this time consuming, an inefficient use of precious funds, heavy and tiring, but it’s not really that effective; we speed by so fast in our cars that we can barely see what they’re advertising.

Why not just take the message you’d normally put on a billboard or sandwich board on your t-shirt, instead? It makes a lot of sense; it’s cost effective, light and cool, easy to maintain (through it the washer and dryer), and gets the message across without potentially causing major traffic accidents.

Getting some t-shirts printed up is incredibly easy, and pretty cheap, too. Be sure to shop around among different printing shops to get the best price, but you’ll probably find that most of them will quote prices about the same. It costs very little to maintain this “body billboard”. Throwing an extra t-shirt in the wash isn’t going to cost you any extra; it’s just part of what you’d already be washing, and can even save wear on your regular clothes.

Don’t forget about comfort. Especially in the summer, advertising with your body via sandwich boards or even holding up a sign on the corner will quickly cause you to feel incredibly tired and sweaty. It seems a lot easier to me to put on a cool and comfy tee for the day, especially if you’re going to running lots of errands; your fellow shoppers, citizens in line at the post office, or others in the bank are most likely to take the time to read your ad. What’s more, if they have questions about your product or service, they can stop you and ask all they want. You’re right there, and it saves them time and money they’d need to spend to call or look you up online. If you’re wearing a particularly provocative t-shirt, you may cause a couple of crashed shopping carts, but rest easy in the knowledge that there won’t likely be any injuries!

So, take the plunge and get your info on your back. Become the newest “body billboard”.

SPF t-shirt

Does your t-shirt protect you from UVB rays? New SPF 30+ Protection T-Shirts

SPF t-shirt

The Solar Protective Factory announced today that they have created the first all cotton t-shirt that has received a seal of recommendation for its UPF rating from the Skin Cancer Foundation. The t-shirt has a UPF 50+ rating and is said to maintain this for quality of protection for over two years. The shirts were tested by laundering them forty times and exposing it to 100 hours of ultraviolet exposure. The Solar Protective Factory archived the high UPF rating through “innovations in fabric construction including thread type and loft, the warp and fil weave and knitting and pharmacologically inert dyes and chemical treatments.”

According to the company the American Cancer Society recommends that a t-shirt should provide at least the equivalent of SPF 15 but the average 100% cotton t-shirt has equivalent of 4-10 SPF. The new t-shirts from the Solar Protective Factory are said to have way more protection up to 30 SPF. The SPF t-shirts are priced from $11.95 to $17.95 and are available at the SPF Store.

T-Shirts for Dad – Personalized Father’s Day Gift Ideas

Looking for a great Father’s Day gift for the dad who has everything? How about a way to let him know what a great dad he is on his birthday or Christmas? Custom-designed t-shirts are the way to go!

Every dad feels great when he’s appreciated. Showing the love to dad through hugs, kisses, and spending time with him is all good. There are lots of dads out there who would welcome the opportunity to wear a cool tee that shows off to the world how much his kids love him.

Available in almost any color, you can order one for the special dad in your life in his favorite shade. Take a look at the t-shirts he already has; then you’ll know for sure what style he prefers.

The rest is up to you! Lots of young families like to give dad t-shirts with baby’s footprints on the front; this tells everyone dad meets that he’s got a new baby in the house, and he’ll be congratulated. Of course, the tee might also be stained with spit-up after he’s worn it a time or two, but I bet he won’t mind. Another good idea for a dad with young children at home is to make a t-shirt with the kids’ pictures on the front. Witty sayings or captions like “The Hometown Team” can be printed above the photo.

For the dad who likes things understated, you can try a tee that has a smaller design, say where a pocket would be. A small graphic of a trophy surrounded with the words Best Dad Award will be sure to please. You can also choose a design that goes on the back of the t-shirt; some dads might feel more comfortable with the graphics behind him where they aren’t always catching his eye and making him feel more noticeable.

Then, there are some dads who will wear anything, regardless of how understated or how wild the t-shirt is. With these dads, your imagination can really go crazy. Try funny shirts like “My kids rock” or “Superdad!” printed on a Superman logo.

“Behind Every Kid is a Great Dad” is a shirt that will show the world that here walks a dad who puts his family first. Another favorite is “Property of My Kids, 24/7”.

If your family has some special sayings or ways to tell each other “I love you”, you can put that on a t-shirt! As kids grow older, they start to get embarrassed when mom or dad says those three little words in front of their friends. Many parents solve this by coming up with code words that mean the same thing. For example, they might say something like, “You rock” or “Until next time!” This could literally be anything.

Some tees can even show that the wearer of the shirt is a man that loves his country, team, hobby, along with his kids; “World’s Greatest Dad” printed in the style of a baseball pennant is one example.

Getting a t-shirt for dad on Father’s Day, his birthday, or even Christmas is a great, unique way to show the dad in your life how much you love and appreciate him. Have fun!

Honoring the Fallen on Memorial Day – A History of Memorial Day & T-Shirts

T-Shirts have long been a tool for spreading awareness and a billboard for expressing ourselves. On Memorial Day many people choose to wear patriotic t-shirts and create personalized designs to help remember honoring the fallen soldiers. Remembering the men and women, soldiers and civilians, who have died while defending the United States has been a tradition in America since 1863, following the death of hundreds of thousands of soldiers during the War Between the States. Back then, the day of recognition was called Decoration Day, because flowers were placed on the graves of soldiers from both North and South. Started by women, some the wives of government representatives, others within local communities, the tradition became a yearly one.

The idea of recognizing a day to honor fallen soldiers is believed to have begun with a woman named Miss Emma Hunter of Pennsylvania, who appeared at her father’s tomb with flowers in 1864. There, she also met another woman bearing flowers to the grave of her son. The two women agreed to meet the same day the following year in order to again place flowers on their graves, and so Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, is credited with originating Memorial Day. Another legend tells of the creation of Memorial Day taking place as women from Columbus, Mississippi placed flowers upon the graves of both Confederate and Union soldiers in 1866.

In 1865, a suggestion was made to the Commander in Chief of the Grand Army of the Republic for citizens around the country to be able to have access to soldier’s graves on the last day of May for the purpose of “strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country.” Shortly thereafter, ceremonies were held at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, directly across the Potomac River from Washington D.C., where they continue to this day. Though Memorial Day was not officially designated a national holiday until the late 1870’s, observers from towns and cities across the United States observed, recognized and honored veterans of all wars the last day in May. In 1873, New York was the first state in America to officially declare May 30th a legal holiday.

Navy personnel and families created small boats made of flowers and set them afloat at ports on both American coasts to that the tides would carry the flowers out to sea in the hopes that they would eventually find those who had been buried or lost at sea. Towns everywhere celebrate the day with red, white and blue streamers, parades, speeches and events designed to commemorate the sacrifices and loyalty of soldiers, both men and women, who have lost their lives in the continued pursuit of freedom and democracy. Flags, normally raised in front of all government and school buildings, are also raised in front of homes. Cemeteries around the country are decorated with thousands of little flags placed at the headstones of veterans. Military ceremonies performed throughout the country offer cannon and gun salutes to those who have given their all for their country. The playing of Taps in cemetery ceremonies around the nation brings tears to thousands of eyes every year, while white crosses decorated with red poppies or carnations remind all Americans that freedom is neither free nor to be taken for granted.

Schools around the country celebrate Memorial Day with crafts and classroom assignments that ensure that soldier’s contributions to freedom never be forgotten, and many veterans visit classrooms and auditoriums around the country, telling of their experiences during various battles and wars. The Pledge of Allegiance became a daily requirement for American children in schools around the country, serving as a reminder of what it means to be a citizen of one of the greatest countries in the world.

Memorial Day is one of America’s most honored holidays, when all military personnel are recognized and appreciated for their sacrifices and dedication to preserving the ideals of freedom and democracy not only within the United States of America, but around the globe. Honor our soldiers and the people you care about on memorial day with a t-shirt. Some ideas for t-shirts on Memorial day might be a simple flag of the United States or maybe a yellow ribbon with the name of a solider. If you have other ideas for a memorial day t-shirt please let us know.

History of Father’s Day – T-Shirts have become a Popular Gift Idea for Dad

T-Shirts as gifts have become a big part of Father’s Day so we thought it was appropriate to provide a short history of this special day.

Mrs. Bruce John Dodd of Spokane, Washington spent a Sunday during May of 1909 in church listening to one of the first sermons directed specifically at the celebration of motherhood. She was so taken by the sentiments that she began efforts to generate support for a similar day honoring fatherhood. Her efforts are often credited with the beginning of Father’s Day celebrations in the United States.

Many countries of Roman Catholic leaning celebrate fatherhood on the Feast of Saint Joseph, the day set aside within the church to honor Joseph, the father of Jesus. Obviously, this makes sense considering that during biblical times it was rare for a man to accept, love and nurture a child who was biologically not his own.

For the United States, a secular celebration seemed more appropriate and the idea for the June came from Mrs. Dodd’s suggestion of June 5. The day is actually celebrated on the third Sunday in June, however because organization efforts were not completed in time to hold the national celebration on that suggested date. The first organized celebration happened in her hometown of Spokane in 1910, just one year later than the beginning celebrations for Mother’s Day.

The passing of a bill in support of a national celebration of fatherhood did not occur until many years later however, and gender bias may have been the reason that it took until 1972 for Father’s Day to be declared a national holiday. Traditionally, the Congress was made up of exclusively men and therefore they believed that passing a holiday with the specific intention of honoring men might appear to be a conflict of interest. Therefore, it was not until Richard Nixon’s administration that the day became nationally recognized.

When Mrs. Dodd began her efforts, it was partially because her own father had raised six children without their mother. As a young adult of 27, she had grown to realize the determination, dedication and sacrifice that her father demonstrated in order to present his children with opportunities and love.

Father’s are considered the root and support for society, and their role in guiding their children towards success and virtue is very important to the development of society. Therefore, the establishment of Father’s Day is very important in that it serves to recognize the role of a father within a family and within society as a whole.

Father’s Day is celebrated widely throughout the world, where children of all ages take time to recognize their father’s love and influence and to celebrate fathers in general. Most celebrations include a special dinner and gifts. Naturally, the holiday has become more commercialized than it was ever intended at the beginning.

Because the role and attitude of fathers throughout the world varies tremendously, there is no one specific gift that is given more than others. Of course, the cliché gift of a tie still appears occasionally. Unlike Mother’s Day, where flowers and chocolate are hot sellers, retailers have had to become more creative in their marketing efforts in order to cover all types of dads. Popular gift items do include sports equipment, steak dinners, free car washes by the little ones and of course the t-shirt. The t-shirt has become such a popular gift is that it is easy to create a custom t-shirt that has just the right message for your dad. Father’s Day t-shirts can tell how much you love your father or if you dare you can give him a funny shirt that pokes fun of him. But what is most important is that people everywhere are taking time out of their busy lives to pay attention to their own father and his role in their life.

Company T-Shirts Boost Morale

Keeping employees happy and satisfied is a challenge for many companies. Planning company events is one way to maintain employee satisfaction. Events such as a company picnic are a time for employees to relax and mingle. Families get the opportunity to spend time together. Spouses get to meet the many people they hear about everyday after work. Company picnics are wonderful at creating a stress-free environment for employees and giving them down time, so they can be more productive at work.

Company events can be difficult to organize and plan. All companies want to make a great impression at the company event, so that employees will remember the event for years to come. Custom t-shirts are a fun way to create a lasting impression. The company can design a shirt specifically for the company picnic, or other event, that will bring back memories for employees.

Designing a custom t-shirt is actually quite fun. There are many color options for the shirt, although if you are a company with many men, pink may not go over well! There are also options for what you want to have on the t-shirt. It can be as simple as the company name and logo. Although a nice simple choice, it’s not very fun. Consider having fun with the design of your shirt.

A funny saying would be great for your company’s custom t-shirt. One example was a car manufacturer that had a shirt with the saying, “Professional test drivers, don’t try this at home!” It is a cute saying and brings back memories for the employees and former employees. Depending on what your company focus is, there may be a saying that would fit perfect for your company t-shirt. A saying like, “I’m Fried” could be great for a restaurant or computer company. It may also be exactly what your employees are feeling, so it would be appropriate.

Adding graphics to the t-shirt is another great option. A restaurant that uses “I’m Fried” could have a fried egg graphic or a person in a frying pan. A computer company using the same phrase could have a computer on fire or a person sitting by a computer with his head sparking. The possibilities are endless. The graphic used could come from your company itself. A great way to promote your event would be to have an employee contest to design the shirt (or just graphic). The winner could get a number of prizes from a free lunch, movie tickets, or even a paid day off. The better the prize, the better the entries!

Custom t-shirts are a fun way to promote your company event and invoke memories for years. Taking the time to design a fantastic company t-shirt will be worth the effort when the company event occurs and you see the looks on the faces of attendees. If you chose to do a contest to design the shirt, waiting to reveal the winner when the shirts are distributed could be a great employee moral booster. Employees will be anxious to see who won, and there will be talk about it for a long time. When planning you next company event, don’t forget a great camaraderie builder, custom t-shirts. They really are fun and will bring your employees together.

Reduce attention

T-Shirt Worn by Celebrity to Reduce Media Attention?

Reduce attentionMany celebrities have money and fame but this does not mean they have it easy. Paparazzi, fans, reporters and critics make having a normal life nearly impossible. One of the celebrities who has fell victim to the non-stop media attention is Miley Cyrus. Most recently Miley was critcized for her provocative Vanity Fair photographs and for stealing an LA band’s song.

In response to media attention, the “World’s First Supermodel” Janice Dickinson was spotted wearing a black t-shirt with the phrase “Get off Miley’s Back” in large white letters. The outfit also consisted of a long black shirt and a bright red belt.

While I am not sure that wearing this t-shirt will in fact get the media off Miley’s back I think many might believe such a phrase.

In the movie Jack Black is the lazy panda who tries to protect his village as a great martial artist. Jolie is the voice of the Tigress who is the lazy bear’s martial arts rival. Visit KungFuPanda.com for more information on the movie that is to be released on June 6, 2008. No lazy panda shirts are for sale on their site yet but I am sure they are coming.
