What Makes Me Look Skinnier – A Black T-Shirt Or A White One?

What makes me look skinnier – a black T-shirt or a white one? This is a very typical question of many people, especially those in the quest to look skinny or even those rare ones who want to avoid looking skinny. We can stand in front of a mirror trying on T-shirt after T-shirt. However, often we find that it is only by getting someone else’s opinion that we really feel confident as to which one really does make us look skinnier.

In general, black T-shirts make you look skinnier. Black, for some unknown, but wonderful reason, has a slimming effect. The fact that it goes well with practically everything and can be dressed up or dressed down, makes black T-shirts a hot item. Black is the color of choice for many people for the simple reason that it does have that magical slimming effect. Often people will go for an entire head to toe black outfit to maximize the effect and create a seamless line, another trick of the eye from fashionistas.

However, the color is not the only thing that will make you look skinnier. Having the right cut and the right size will make a huge difference to how you look in terms of size. If you are choosing between a black T-shirt that is too small, a black T-shirt that is too big or a white T-shirt that fits properly, the white one is definitely going to make you look skinnier. When your T-shirt is too small, it emphasizes your size and makes you appear heavier than you may be. If your T-shirt is too large and is hanging off you, it will make you look bigger and as if you are trying to disguise your size. Therefore, the right shirt that fits properly is very important to that slim look.

In regards to style, choosing a black T-shirt that has the right style for you is important in maintaining that skinnier look, especially for women. Wear T-shirts that are cut and made for women whenever possible. They will look infinitely better than unisex tees. If you have a great figure, choose a fitted T-shirt, but not too tight. Even if you are lacking curves, you can give the illusion of having them by choosing a loose-cut fitted black shirt. If you have a short neck or are top heavy, a plunging neckline on your black tee will not only give you a skinnier look, it will elongate the look of your torso and neck.

So now that you have confidence in the fact that properly fitting black T-shirts are the way to go to achieve that much-sought-after look of skinniness, it is time to update your T-shirt wardrobe. There are so many fun custom-made black T-shirts to have made that you can wear a different one every day if you’d like. Tell what you love, speak out about things you are passionate about and boast of anything you are proud of on a custom-made T-shirt.

Order your custom-made black T-shirts today and start that new, skinnier look now.

Is My T-Shirt Too Wrinkled to Wear?

Laundry. The inevitable task, unless you want to walk around with dirty clothes on or have enough money to buy a new outfit every time the clothes hamper needs emptied… Neither of these options tend to appeal to the majority of the population, so we muster up the energy and wash clothes only to realize that there’s yet another task at hand before we can wear some of our fresh out-of-the-dryer clothing… You got it! It’s ironing. And it’s often the case that our favorite t-shirts that need ironing the most… which begs the question (for those of us who absolutely despise ironing), ‘When is that t-shirt too wrinkled to wear?’.

I think it might be best to tackle this question by breaking it down into 5 degrees of wrinkled; 0) pressed, 1) creased, 2) slightly ruffled, 3) crinkled and 4) unidentifiable.

Starting with the obvious, pressed means that you’ve taken the time to iron your t-shirt, or have a ‘no-wrinkle’ material that dries nicely, and your t-shirt has zero wrinkles.

Next, you have a creased t-shirt, which means the shirt was ironed if needed, folded and put away, and the only ‘wrinkles’ to be found are along the fold lines or creases. Unless they’re ultra picky or obsessive compulsive, no one’s goanna turn their nose up at you for wearing this level of wrinkled, regardless of where you wear it (work, play, school, etc). Some may even argue that creased doesn’t constitute a wrinkled t-shirt, though, by definition, a crease is a wrinkle and a wrinkle is a crease.

Now we’re going to move on to the more questionable degrees of wrinkled. Typically, if you watch the dryer and pull your t-shirts out immediately after it shuts off, some of your t-shirts will still be slightly ruffled (no major wrinkles, but obviously not ironed or wrinkle-free). You may be ok to wear this level of wrinkled at home, to the gym or on a casual walk in the park. You may even be able to get away with wearing it under a button up jacket for dinner, but it might be pushing it to wear it to work. You may receive disapproval from some, like your ‘mother who taught you better’ or your ‘neat freak’ significant other, but generally, most won’t give you a second look.

However, if you’re the guilty one who has pulled the laundry out of the dryer and then simply threw it in the clothes basket for a day or two (or longer!), you likely now have a crinkled shirt; the next to worst kind of wrinkled you could attempt to wear, especially in public (even at the gym is pushing it a bit). You may be brave and throw it on to lounge around at home, but not only do crinkled shirts look bad, they can be fairly uncomfortable. Because they’ve been allowed to crinkle up, they also tend to also stiffen up, which can make for a rough feeling against your skin, especially when t-shirts should be one of the most comfortable pieces of clothing you own! One word- REWASH!

And finally, you know that corner that piles up in your closet? The one that you sometimes forget is there until you either throw something else on it or try to find your missing clothing in it? Well, this pile tends to produce the worst wrinkled t-shirts of all, the unidentifiable kind. To define unidentifiable more clearly, it’s the t-shirt that you think was a t-shirt but you’re not so sure anymore because it’s so wrinkled that it seems to be taking on the shape of an accordion. Another level of wrinkled that should never be worn prior to rewashing!

Bottom line- If your t-shirt’s pressed or creased, where that t-shirt with pride! If it’s slightly ruffled, use caution. And if it’s crinkled or unidentifiable, please pass on pulling it over your head!

Does My T-shirt Make Me Look Fat?

Does my T-shirt make me look fat? This is a common question from T-shirt wearers of many different sizes, both genders and a variety of different ages. No matter what we wear, many of us tend to ask this question automatically because we are concerned with how our clothes make us appear. Some people ask these questions out loud to their spouse, parent, close friend or sibling. Others will ask it to salespeople or even anyone who is nearby. Still others tend to ask such questions to themselves and silently wonder without actually coming out and saying the words to another person.

When you are shopping for a T-shirt or putting on a shirt you haven’t worn in a while there are some guidelines to keep in mind to be sure that you have a good fit and the right style. Following these guidelines will ensure that you are confident that your T-shirt does not make you look fat.

One thing to be careful of when choosing a T-shirt is the style. If you are concerned about looking fat, be sure to avoid horizontal stripes on a T-shirt. You may also want to steer away from shirts that have bright colors or designs. Darker shirts or something that draws the eye vertically instead of horizontally will make you appear thinner. For women, it is important to choose feminine styled T-shirts. The length will be more flattering. The sleeves will arrive mid-arm or above, as they should. The necklines are more versatile. You can choose a V-neck or scoop necked shirt to create a sleeker look. You can also find fitted T-shirts that will follow a woman’s lines that are much more attractive than unisex styled tees.

Sizing is incredibly important to take into consideration when trying to decide if a T-shirt makes you look fat. If you are wearing something that is too big for you, thinking that the excess material will cover up any body flaws you may have, you are wrong. Oversized T-shirts make it appear that you are oversized too. They make you look larger and are sloppy, especially if the arms are too long or the neckline too large. Leave oversized T-shirts for sleeping in.

Similarly, shirts that are too fitted are not better than the oversized ones. If your shirt is too tight you will have the look of a stuffed sausage, which is definitely not attractive. Shirts that are too small definitely make both men and women look fat. The key is to find T-shirts that are not too big nor too small. Bear in mind when you are purchasing T-shirts to expect a little shrinkage, even from pre-shrunk T-shirts, therefore do not buy a shirt that fits perfectly. Go for something a little larger, so it can shrink to the perfect size. Remember, when T-shirts start to stretch out or look misshapen, it’s time to replace them with a new higher-quality one to look your best.

Get your perfect style and ideal size T-shirt today and ensure that the answer is always no when you ask, “Does my T-shirt make me look fat?”

How to Match Your T-shirt and Pants

Trying to make sure you are properly in fashion can give many people headaches from the frustration. There are way too many rules to abide by and worry about. Well, stop worrying about it! Each person has his own sense of comfort and style. Finding your style may take a little trial and error, but when you do find the perfect look for you, it will be worth it.

One of the first things you need to think about when picking your clothing is what you like. If you love t-shirts there are many different styles to choose from. You can have t-shirts with sayings, graphics, political statements, sports, or bands. The options really are numerous. So pick the shirts you love the most and use them to choose your pants.

Very rarely will a t-shirt look good with a pair of dress pants. Occasionally, you can get away with wearing a t-shirt with dress pants, but you have to be careful. A simple pair of black slacks can look fine with a black t-shirt in a rock n’ roll style graphic or slogan. However, not too many people can pull off this look, so there are no guarantees this style will work for you.

Gray t-shirts with dark brown pants really do not look good together. The colors don’t blend well and can be quite off balance. If you wear a gray t-shirt your best bet is a pair of jeans. Darker blue jeans will be the ideal look. You can also do black since it looks fine but the blue looks the best. Really, jeans will look the great with any color t-shirt. Faded jeans are a nice touch to vintage looking t-shirts while tight wrangler style jeans are perfect for t-shirts with a cowboy saying.

Corduroys are not the best choice for t-shirts. Polo shirts and button down shirts look the best with corduroys. T-shirts tend to look awkward and out of proportion when worn with corduroy pants. If your pants are a color other than blue or black, you will need to match them with your t-shirt with more care.

To match a red t-shirt with pants, you can choose from several different colors for your pants. Yellow, white, tan, and purple match the best with red, other than blue or black. For a yellow shirt your best bets are dark green, deep red and deep brown. A pink shirt looks beautiful with a deep brown although other colors such as light green and a bright yellow may also work.

Matching your t-shirt with your pants takes a bit of experimentation. Put the colors together in bright sunlight to see if they appeal to you. If you can’t look at them because they don’t look right, you have your answer. You should also consider the graphics so that you don’t have a basketball shirt while wearing baseball pants. Take your time when you are matching your clothes, so you are comfortable when you step outside. Of course, when all else fails, ask someone else!

What Your T-Shirt Says about You…

They say you can tell a lot about a person by their clothes. You probably couldn’t guess their middle name or their social security number just by assessing their outfit. And the messages might not be obvious. You won’t find yourself walking through the mall and suddenly struck by the attire of a by-passer and think, “Whoa! That guy is really into scuba diving!” or “that lady likes lots of cream and a little bit of sugar in her coffee!” However, with some careful scrutiny, you can tell more about a person through their clothing than you think.

For example, you might be able to find out what sports they like or maybe even their favorite teams. Some people like to wear shirts that say their favorite music groups. You can certainly discern what colors a person likes by checking out their closet. So if you see someone out wearing a red shirt, odds are they like the color red. I certainly hope so. What kind of sick person would voluntarily wear a color they hate?

Most clothing messages, however, are not so clear. For example, if you see a nice young lady wearing pearls and high heels, it would be a stretch to assume that she likes to watch wrestling matches. Or, if you meet a gentleman wearing chaps, spurs and a cowboy hat, you would have a difficult time convincing someone that his favorite pastime is performing in Shakespeare plays. Even though these assumptions are likely to be accurate, they are, nevertheless, merely assumptions. Maybe the cowboy really is an accomplished thespian? It’s possible.

You’re probably wondering, what does my shirt say about me? What do people assume about me when they look at my shirt? Does it express who I really am or am I sending mixed messages to the world? I say, don’t take a chance. Spell it out for them. Get yourself a wardrobe full of shirts that tells the world exactly who you are and what you want them to know about you. Hundreds of people could be out there thinking that you probably hate kung-fu movies, when in reality, you love them! You could be coming home every night and enjoying a classic martial arts film and the world would never know because your shirt fails to express who you really are.

Put it out there. Get yourself a personally designed shirt that shares who you are. The sky’s the limit. You can get a shirt printed with “Climbing Rocks!” if that’s your favorite weekend activity. Or it might say “Foodies Unite!” if cooking’s your thing. Perhaps you’re a more reserved personality and that’s exactly what you’d like your shirt to say about you. If that’s the case, maybe you design a shirt made to say that you’re just down right cool and stylin’. At the end of the day, don’t set back and let your clothes send the wrong message when you have the power to make them say exactly what you want!

How to Use T-Shirts to Attract Men or Women

The human mind is a curious thing. Even when the person is not consciously thinking about attracting a companion, their subconscious is. Everything a person does is designed to attract someone, whether intending to or not. Even something as simple as an article of clothing can make a huge impact on the attraction others have toward the one wearing it. A t-shirt is no different in that it can be a way to attraction the eyes of a special person.

Using a t-shirt to attract men or women is just one simple way to gain a new companion. Choosing your shirt wisely will give you the best chance of catching someone’s eye. Choosing a t-shirt that reflects your personality is your best bet. It would be difficult to explain that you are wearing a t-shirt from a band that you actually don’t even like! If you are not much of a sports lover, then a sports t-shirt would also not make much sense.

T-shirts that reflect your hobbies or philosophy are great choices. However, try not to give too many details that may scare off those you are trying to attract. A shirt that has a picture of a drunk with beer surrounding him doesn’t give off the best impression, so avoid shirts that expose your bad habits. A t-shirt that has a beautiful or thought-provoking quote is an excellent way to attract someone. Your shirt can also be about a favorite game or show if you really want to get someone that shares some of your loves.

Your t-shirt should also fit well. If your shirt is too big, you will look larger or like you can’t find clothes to fit you correctly. A nicely fitted shirt will accentuate your features and give you a put together appearance. If your shirt is too tight, you will look like you are either trying too hard to be smaller or look heavier because your clothing doesn’t fit right. Finding the perfect size can be tricky, but take your time when trying on clothing to get the correct fit. The shirt should hug your body without being too tight. Just tight enough to show off your shape.

The color is also important when choosing your t-shirt. A color that looks great with your skin tone and hair color will accentuate your features and make you look nice. The wrong color for your skin tone can have the opposite effect, making you look sickly. Faded colors tend to look run down and give off the appearance of not taking care of yourself or your clothes, even if that is not true. Clothing that is not worn out and not faded gives a better impression and looks like you can take care of yourself. It’s not really rational thinking, but is true nonetheless.

Attracting men or women takes a bit of planning to ensure that you are giving the best impression you can. Using your t-shirts you can attract someone that has similar hobbies and philosophies because your shirt revealed what yours are. Clothing is the first thing that many people see so you want your t-shirt to be a reflection of you and look great on you so you can give them a reason to talk to you and get the relationship growing. So take your time in choosing your t-shirt so you have the right one that lets others know that you are confident and you will attract others.

Is it Fashionable to Wear a Black Bra and White T-Shirt?

What is in fashion always depends on whom you ask. It changes from one time to another, place to place and even one age to another. Many newspaper columnists and entire magazines are devoted to determining what is in and what is not. While there are many similarities between what two different fashionistas say is hot for one season, many other things are different.

Wearing a black bra with a white T-shirt definitely makes a statement. It shows a little devil-may-care type of attitude. It tells others that you don’t like to follow rules and that you think outside the box. It says that you are an independent kind of person who takes the path that is less traveled. This look also tells that you are relaxed and laid back. A white T-shirt that has a black bra underneath is definitely a casual kind of look and not one for the office.

Many people will say that it is a fashion faux pas to wear a black bra under a white T-shirt and for those people, there is no convincing them otherwise. Many people feel that the most acceptable type of undergarment is the one that cannot be seen. It simply does its job without calling attention to itself. In the case of the white T-shirt that would mean either a white bra or a nude colored one are the bra colors of choice. However, even with these 2 options there is still debate. Some people feel that the white under white works best, while others feel that the best choice is a nude one, as it is the least noticeable.

Whether you are for the black bra-white T-shirt combination or against it, there are guidelines to keep in mind. The absolute best bra, regardless of color, to wear under a T-shirt is a seamless smooth cup bra, that is a solid color. Stay away from lace or bras with designs on them as it will take away from the clean line of the T-shirt. Be sure to choose a bra that is not see through, especially if the T-shirt is white. You’ll be getting attention for all the wrong reasons.

No matter what your feelings about bra color under white T-shirts, there is nothing more adaptable than the addition of white T-shirts to your wardrobe. They go with practically everything. You can have plain ones for those dressy occasions or printed ones for everyday. There are so many fun things to have printed on a custom-made white T-shirt, that you can have one for every day of the week, every season and every mood. They cam be to show off something you are proud of, make a statement about something you feel strongly about or just simply for fun. How to Remove Ring-Around-the-Collar from Your T-Shirts

There are certain things that are just extra difficult to clean when it comes to laundry. One of those involves T-shirts and is referred to as ring-around-the-collar. It is a stain created usually by the sweat of the neck coming into contact with the collar area of the T-shirt. Unfortunately, sweat stains most T-shirt fabrics, leaving an oily, organic stain that is difficult to clean. However there is still hope. You can get it clean and there are even a couple of different ways to do so.

Method #1
Use an old toothbrush to apply degreaser to the collar area of the T-shirt. Gently rub in the degreaser. Put the T-shirts in cool water in the washer with oxygenated detergent afterwards. After the shirts agitate a little to ensure that they are covered with water, turn off the washer and let the shirts sit overnight in it. In the morning restart the washer and let the cycle finish.  Check to be sure the stain is completely gone, if not repeat the process. Dry as usual.

Method #2
Purchase a lanolin-based hand cleaner in a hardware store or department store. This is the type of cleaners that mechanics use to clean oil and grease from their hands. Apply it to the collar of the T-shirt and let it sit for a few minutes. Wash the shirts as usual. If the stain is not completely gone, reapply lanolin cleaner and rub gently, then rewash the T-shirt.

Method #3
For white T-shirts, make a paste using dishwasher detergent and hot water. Then apply to the collar and let it soak for a while. Wash as usual. This is not for use on colored T-shirts as it will bleach them.

Method #4
It is important to properly pre-treat ring around the collar before laundering your T-shirts. In a spray bottle mix together 2 parts household ammonia, 2 parts water and one part mild liquid detergent. Spray the mixture on the affected collar and gently rub it in using a towel or a soft brush. Let it sit for a few minutes and then wash as usual. If a yellow mark is left you will need to remove it with bleach. This is another method that works best on white T-shirts.

Method #5
Pre-treat the collar of the T-shirt with shampoo, a grease-fighting dish detergent, lemon juice or white vinegar. Gently rub it into the stain, let sit for a while and then wash in the warmest temperature recommended for the shirt.

Before you do any of these methods do a spot check on a hidden part of the shirt to make sure the treatment method is safe for the fabric.

Another way to deal with really bad ring around the collar is to use the T-shirt for cleaning purposes and buy some new ones. Get brand new custom-made T-shirts in any design you wish and remember to pre-treat the collar with a laundry pre-treatment before washing to avoid bad cases of ring around the collar.

Get a new custom-made T-shirt today and eliminate any ring-around-the-collar worries, at least for a while.

Is it Okay To Wear T-Shirts to Church?

It’s Sunday morning and all are racing to get ready for church. Mom has on a nice dress. Dad has on his best slacks and button up shirt. Susie, the 10 year old has on her favorite Sunday dress. And then comes in the 8 year old son, Johnny, wearing his favorite blue t-shirt and blue jeans. Being in a rush, Mom raises her brow with slight disapproval, but given they’re already 10 minutes late, she says, ‘OK. Get in the car.’ For the first time, Johnny wore a t-shirt to church. And, it wouldn’t be his last. After many long convincing conversations where he insisted he did it once, and ‘so many of the other boys wear t-shirts to church’, Mom gave in (but not without a long debate in her own head along with Johnny’s Dad).

This isn’t an uncommon question that many parents and individuals in general face. Are t-shirts ok to wear to church?

It might simply come down to one’s beliefs. Out of respect, many believe that wearing t-shirts to church should be a no-no. However, many may argue the fact that as long as you’re in church, then what you wear (within limits), shouldn’t matter, including t-shirts.

Some churches go as far to have a dress code, where others ‘encourage’ church attendees to dress appropriately, which sometimes means ‘no t-shirts’. However, my experience has been that t-shirts are often permitted in church, more so nowadays than previously, but it is expected that one would use good taste in selecting a t-shirt to wear to church. Also, it seems that males vs. females are given more leniencies when it comes to wearing t-shirts to church, as well as children vs. adults.

The type of service you’re attending might make a difference as to whether or not a t-shirt’s appropriate. For example, more contemporary services might be more casual or laid back whereas a more traditional ceremony might be a bit conservative where a t-shirt is not appropriate.

Assuming that the church you attend is open to you wearing t-shirts to church, there are a few things to keep in mind when selecting a t-shirt for church. It should be clean, neat and well pressed without offensive language or pictures (I think we all know what ‘offensive’ means for church). There are several t-shirts that you can purchase that have ‘religious’ sayings on them that seem very appropriate to where to church. Also, for females, there are several different styles of t-shirts nowadays that can be dressed up for church. What t-shirts are appropriate to wear for worship at church comes down to using good common sense.

Given there are a variety of churches to choose from; from conservative to contemporary to upbeat to traditional, the best thing to do is to find one that fits best with your thoughts and beliefs. And if you’re a t-shirt fan, then find a church you’re comfortable wearing t-shirts to, but please, use good judgment when selecting your church t-shirt wardrobe!

Women Wearing Men’s T-Shirts – Is it Okay?

Fashion is such a variable and ever-changing thing. However there are some things that never completely change. Quite often men’s fashions tend to overflow into women’s fashions, and often it is just not the designers who are responsible. Women love wearing men’s clothes and masculine style clothing. For many women, it makes them feel closer to their men when they wear their guy’s shirts. It also shows a certain air of belonging when you see a woman wearing a man’s shirt. You just know there’s a special guy in her life.

Men’s T-shirts are not always a special category of their own. They may be the only T-shirts available in many cases. Many T-shirts nowadays are unisex; therefore the question of whether or not to wear a man’s T-shirt is irrelevant. There often is no other choice. When you take part in events where custom-made T-shirts are given away or sold, more often than not, those T-shirts are men’s styles. When certain types of special holiday shirts or sports T-shirts are printed, often they are only available in men’s style or unisex T-shirts.

However, there are typically big differences between T-shirts specifically designed for men and those specifically designed for women. Quite often, women will opt for the same T-shirt design as a man, but in a more feminine style. The things that make a T-shirt more feminine are shorter sleeves than on a man’s shirt, softer and usually lower necklines, a more fitted style and shorter torso length. Some women do indeed prefer to buy and wear men’s T-shirts because they like the extra coverage and style, but many prefer the feminine ones.

Wearing men’s T-shirts definitely has its place in the lives of most women. Many women borrow a T-shirt from their husband’s wardrobe for sleeping in. The extra length in many men’s shirts provides just the perfect coverage to use as a nightshirt. When your guy is not around, wearing his shirt keeps him close at heart and mind. T-shirts that boast of special accomplishments your man has achieved are even better to wear. It may be a college shirt, championship shirt or registration shirt from a charity event or race. Often it is those custom-made T-shirts that women enjoy borrowing most. Wearing them also show that they are proud of their significant other.

If you are ordering custom-made T-shirts for a group of people and do not have specific genders and sizes for each person, your best choice is to go with a unisex style, which will be appealing to both men and women. It is much easier for a woman to accept and wear a more masculine style than for a man to wear a feminine style. You don’t have to worry about running out of T-shirts for one gender or the other.

Get yourself a custom-made T-shirt today, telling that you love to wear men’s T-shirts. A shirt that says “This is my man’s shirt” or “I wear guys’ T-shirts” will bring smiles to many faces. We have all done it and will continue to do so for so many reasons.

T-shirt Care and How to Make Your T-Shirt Last Longer

The great thing about T-shirts is that they are reasonably affordable and can be customized to suit and personality. They also come in an amazing array of colors, styles, sleeve lengths, fabrics. Not to mention the multitude of different pictures and fonts that can be applied to the front and back of the shirt.

The one downside of T-shirts is that they have a tendency to wear out faster than, say, a jacket or skirt. Steady T-shirt wearers can expect about two years of wearability before the T-shirt starts to fade, rip, pill or otherwise look less than its best but it really depends on how often you wear the t-shirt.

You can halt this deterioration a variety of ways. First, when you put on the shirt, avoid yanking it over your head, stretching around your shoulders and shoving down to your waist. That continuous action is ruinous for the seams.

Also, make sure you buy the right size T-shirt to fit your frame. A person who feels their shirt is too tight will be constantly pulling it away from “trouble spots,” stretching it where it shouldn’t be stretched in order to make it “feel” better. Well, it might feel better, but an honest look in the mirror will tell you that it looks terrible.

A great-fitting shirt should feel just that – great.

You should wash the shirt in cool water with a color-protecting detergent. Make sure you wash it inside-out to protect the design (it’s a good idea to wash all of your clothes inside out as well). Stay alert! Pay attention to the washing machine cycle so you can pull it out as soon as it’s completed its final spin. Dry it in the dryer using the “normal settings.”

White T-shirts that have been worn often will eventually start forming yellowish stains around the collar and armpits. These stains are caused by sweat and deodorant, so a good way to combat this is to wait until your underams are completely dry before putting it on. Then, launder the shirt as soon as you’re done wearing it. It helps to use anti-stain products, but for stubborn discolorations, try making a paste from a super-detergent such as OxyClean. Let it sit for a while and then launder as usual.

Sometimes, though, a shirt cannot be saved and, beloved as it may be, wearing a stained T-shirt is mighty unsightly.

Finally, and this happens to the best of us, we don’t remember to remove the T-shirt from the dryer in time and it wrinkles. Or, it ends up stuffed in a drawer and it wrinkles. Or – well you get the picture. T-shirts have tendency to wrinkle, but that’s an easy enough fix.

Just set your iron to “low” or “cotton” and carefully iron them out. Be careful, though. Many a decal, iron-on transfer or custom designed logo has been ruined by an overheated, overzealous ironer. Remember to keep the shirt turned inside out, or place a towel over the trouble spot and try to unkink the wrinkle using patience and pressure.

Wearing a T-Shirt Under Your Polo Shirt – Fashion or Faux Pas?

Is wearing a T-shirt under your polo shirt considered fashionable? When is it not? Fashions come and go and change from place to place. What is considered trendy in one place may be nerdy in another. From season to season things definitely change in regards to style. If you are caught wearing something from last season’s trends amongst certain groups, you will never live it down. Yet, for the most part, the majority of people are not too rigid about the wrongs and rights of fashion. As long as it looks pretty good and is comfortable, people will continue to wear it, if it appeals to them.

People have been wearing T-shirts under polo shirts for many years now and it is still controversial as to whether it is a fashion or not. The layered look has been a trend in the past few years and would definitely encourage the idea of tees under polos. In some climates and during certain seasons it makes a lot of sense to layer. For other places and seasons, people will resist layering whether it is trendy or not because of the temperature.

The reason that people originally began to wear T-shirts under polo shirts was to keep the polo shirt dry and clean. By layering, the sweat from the body is absorbed by the shirt closest to the body. It has the chance to evaporate before settling into the polo shirt or other type of shirt that is worn over the T-shirt. This lead to a cleaner, fresher look for the wearer and no sweaty armpits showing to be self-conscious about. For some men this is very important as sweating distracts from the professional appearance they are trying to portray.

There are specific fashion guidelines to wearing a T-shirt under your polo shirt. Not following the guidelines leads to a definite fashion faux pas. It is important to wear a T-shirt that is lighter in color than the polo you have over it, to provide balance. The T-shirt should always be tucked in and should be the proper fit. Under no circumstances should the T-shirt be a bigger size than the polo because that would create bumps in the line of the clothing. Having the T-shirt sticking out from under the sleeves of the polo is also not visually appealing. T-shirts that have a V neckline should never be paired with a polo shirt.

Get yourself a variety of custom-made white or light-colored T-shirts today to wear under your polo shirts, to keep yourself warm or cooler or dryer or just for the look of it. You can even have fun with your shirts and have them printed with something funny like “This is my under the polo shirt”, “Property of __” or “This shirt never sees the light of day.” Having a good variety of T-shirts means you are always ready to throw a polo over one and head out the door. The look will take you just about anywhere.

How to Keep Your T-shirt from Fading

One of the most common problems with t-shirts is fading. You wear your favorite shirt so often that the constant washing can cause the colors to fade and end up looking ragged and dull. Keeping your t-shirt colors bright can be a troublesome challenge. However there are a few things you can do to keep them from fading.

Before you wash your shirt, ensure that you have sorted all clothing by color to prevent your bleeding colors damaging lighter cloth. As you sort, be sure to read the label of each garment. If your t-shirt says that it needs to be washed in only cold water, you will already be prepared. There may also be special instructions if you have a printed graphic on your shirt. Washing your lighter weight clothes such as cotton t-shirts with heavier and coarse fabrics such as denim can cause damage, so wash them separately. When pre-treating your favorite t-shirt, avoid rubbing the fabric vigorously. Instead, blot the spot gently and allow the garment to soak in cool water for 15 minutes.

During the wash, make sure that you read the items washing instructions. As a general rule of thumb, darker and brighter fabrics are better washed in cool water, since hot water can cause the dye to release from the fabric causing fading and bleeding onto other garments. Washing the t-shirt inside out will also help protect it from the dreaded fading and pilling which can cause a dull look. Never overstuff the washer. Allow room in the washer to allow the clothing to circulate, helping prevent damage. An overstuffed washer can prevent the soap from rinsing out, causing a dull and faded look.

Once your t-shirt is washed, you can’t slack off yet. Fading can also happen during the drying phase, so take precautions. During the dry cycle, keep the t-shirt inside out. This is especially important if you shirt has something printed on it, as it can help keep your picture or saying in place as well as prevent it from cracking and fading. Overstuffing the dryer can cause severe damage to clothing so avoid putting too much in at one time. Do not over-dry the garments. Too much heat causes damage resulting in faded clothing over time. Setting your timer and pulling clothes out while still slightly damp will help prevent fading. If you line dry, avoid direct sunlight. The direct rays can cause damage and make your black shirt look gray after a while.

Taking care of your clothes by washing and drying them properly is a great way to ensure you will be able to wear them for a while. While it may take a little extra effort on your part, you will save money by having to buy clothing less often, since they won’t be damaged so quickly. You can avoid all the fading a dullness that plagues t-shirts with just a few extra minutes during laundry time. Your favorite t-shirt is irreplaceable, so take care of it. You will be glad you did.

The Right T-shirt Can Make a Difference for “Man Boobs”

Even though the media may poke fun at them, the hard reality is that man boobs are not a laughing matter for those who have them. Man boobs, medically known as gynecosmastia, is a condition where a male’s breasts are enlarged, or his chest has excessive fat. Man boobs also known as ‘moobs’, can be humiliating and difficult to deal with if you’re the male with the unfortunate issue. Teenagers may often find themselves being made fun of and embarrassed to take their t-shirts off at a pool party or around any of their friends. And even if the t-shirt stays on, it’s often difficult for men, teenage boys, or children to hide the fact their man boobs exist. However, the right t-shirt could help conceal man boobs. In turn, the wrong t-shirt could make man boobs more obvious. Here are some pointers to keep in mind when selecting a t-shirt to help conceal man boobs.

Avoid t-shirts that are too thin or worn out
Avoid t-shirts made out of thin material. They can often be tempting as they can be breezy and cool, but they are also a culprit to making man boobs more evident. The thin material could cling against your skin and make the man boobs more evident or obvious. The same goes for a t-shirt that’s too thin or see-through due to wear and tear. It may be your favorite t-shirt, but the last thing most self conscious individuals want is for a thinning t-shirt to show off their man boobs. Focus on finding a heavy cotton t-shirt instead.

Avoid t-shirt materials that are too soft
As comfortable and tempting as they might be, avoid wearing t-shirts made out of soft cotton, or a soft rayon/cotton blend. These t-shirts can also cling to the skin and easily show rolls evident under the t-shirt. Man boobs can be very evident under a t-shirt that’s too soft. However, that’s not to say you can’t find a soft comfortable t-shirt to wear, but you want to use caution in your search. Also, using a fabric softener in both your washing machine and dryer will help soften up your more ‘durable’ t-shirts.

Avoid t-shirts that are too tight
This may seem to be an obvious one, but some may think wearing a t-shirt that’s a little too tight may help reduce the appearance of man boobs and rolls. On the contrary, the opposite often occurs. A t-shirt that’s too tight can emphasize rolls and make every single one very evident. It can even cause rolls to appear that aren’t normally there without the t-shirt on. It’s also true a t-shirt that’s too baggy may look sloppy and make you look larger than you are. Go for a t-shirt that’s a comfortable fit; not too tight, not too baggy.

Try wearing a tank top under your t-shirt
By trying this technique, the extra layer under your t-shirt can add a barrier between the t-shirt and your man boobs helping to create a smoother appearance. The tank top can also help hold the man boobs in to minimize their size.

Finally, be proud of who you are, and wear your t-shirts with pride!

To Tuck, Or Not to Tuck – the Ultimate T-Shirt Question

You’re getting dressed in the morning. You’ve got all the elements of a great, casual outfit. Great-fitting jeans? Check. Clever t-shirt? Check. Seems simple enough, right? I mean, just put it on and get out of the house. But with a look in the mirror, you’ll discover your simple outfit brings a big – albeit not earth-shattering – dilemma. Should you tuck in that shirt or not?

If you’re like me, you’ve gone the ‘experimentation’ route with your shirt. You don’t want to wrinkle your shirt, so you fold it under to get a good idea of what it would look like tucked in. If you squint your eyes, you can kind of tell. Then you unfold it and look at the un-tucked version. After a few rounds of this little game, you give up and just go out. But what if you could skip it altogether? What if there was an ultimate guide to when and whether you should tuck?

Well, here we go!

  • Let your feet guide you. What kind of shoes are you going to wear? If it’s sneakers, you can definitely go either way. If you’re wearing pumps or high-heeled boots or sandals, you should probably tuck. If you’re wearing preppy-looking shoes, like loafers, you should definitely tuck. If you’re wearing hiking boots or something else that’s kind of rugged, don’t tuck.
  • What does your waist say? If you’re going to tuck, you’ll probably need a belt – and that brings up a whole new issue. This issue can be solved by the size of your waist. If your waist is trim, you can always get away with tucking. If you’re suffering from “Dunlap Disease” (as in, your belly done lap over your belt), you’re almost always going to want to go untucked to help camouflage that little snack pack you’re carrying.
  • What else are you wearing? If you’re wearing jeans, you could go either way – depending on your figure or physique. If you’re fit, tucking will show off your hard work. If you’re unfit, tucking will show that, too.
  • Where are you going? If it’s casual Friday at work, you absolutely should tuck. Tucking looks neater than not tucking, and you’re there to work – not to shoot pool. You don’t want that “just rolled out of bed” look at work ever. Show up like that, and your boss, co-workers, and clients will all wonder about your competence. Tucking is your only option here. It says, “Hey, I can be part of the team, and the team wants casual Friday. But I’m still here to get the job done, to be a professional.”

There’s still some amount of judgment involved, and you may still have to practice the fake tuck method to make your decision on this crucial matter. You may want to bring in the opinion of an objective observer to help you make your final decision. Ask a friend or your spouse – or even your kids – about whether you should tuck on any particular occasion. It’ll be obvious to them, and if you’re lucky enough to have someone who’ll tell you the truth, you should definitely take their advice.

Using Bleach on T-Shirts

Everyone has T-shirts in their wardrobe and some of us have numerous T-shirts. Taking good care of them is important to making sure they look good, so that you will want to continue to wear them. For the most part, T-shirts are easy to care for, because they are simply wash and wear type garments. Simply toss them into the washing machine and dryer, or hang them to dry, and they are ready to wear. Ironing is usually a personal choice when it comes to T-shirts, especially if you use a dryer, because they usually come out wrinkle-free.

However, from time to time your T-shirts start to look grungy or have stains from who knows where. You can either toss them out, use them for cleaning rags or make an attempt at cleaning them up so you can continue enjoying them. Sometimes we get so attached to our T-shirts that we want to keep enjoying them as long as possible. The key to cleaning them up when they get to that sorry state is usually bleach. The first thing to do is check the care label inside the shirt to see what its recommendations on bleach are. If there is nothing warning against it, then go ahead and use bleach in your washer to clean those nasty T-shirts.

Chlorine bleach can be used on white T-shirts that have no warnings against it. It is the most powerful and effective type of bleach available. A little will definitely go a long way in cleaning a T-shirt. In fact to do it properly, you should pour a measured amount of bleach into your washer with your laundry detergent, and then fill the washer with water. Only after the bleach has been diluted should you add your clothing. Run the washer as usual. Just running one cycle with bleach added may be enough to clean your T-shirt properly. If not, try the same process again, but after your T-shirt agitates in the bleach water, turn it off and let it soak. Then let it finish the cycle. Your shirt should be super clean. Be careful not to let a T-shirt sit in bleach for too long and do not pour bleach directly onto it. Doing so may result in the bleach eating up the fabric and you will have defeated the whole purpose.

If you have a colored T-shirt or a white T-shirt that says not to use chlorine bleach on the label, you can opt for color-safe bleach. Use it in the same way you would regular bleach and you clothes will definitely come cleaner than with detergent alone. Do not expect the dramatic results that chlorine bleach can provide however, because it is just not as strong. There is now a special bleach on the market for dark clothes to guard against color fading.

Another thing to keep in mind when using any kind of bleach is to test it first on a hidden part of the garment. Doing so may help you avoid ruining an item of clothing that you like. Sometimes, even if the label does not warn against bleach, it can still harm certain things.

Can I Wear a T-Shirt with a Blazer?

Don Johnson rocked our fashion worlds when he wore t-shirts and blazers on Miami Vice. No buttons? No collar? Is this man insane? Nope. Just fashion forward. And he set a trend that’s lived on into the 21st century. You know that wearing a t-shirt with a blazer can be a hip, casual look. That one’s easy. The harder one is knowing when it’s appropriate to wear the two together.

Job interviews

Wearing a t-shirt with a blazer is definitely not appropriate for a job interview. Even if the job interview is such that you can go business casual, it’s still a no-no. The look has a rogue, devil-may-care air about it that doesn’t necessarily shout out “hire me!”

Work – it can go either way

Whether or not you can wear a blazer with a t-shirt to work depends on the atmosphere of your workplace. If you work with a bunch of buttoned-up corporate execs, then it’s a no. But if you work at a trendy clothing store or a hip consulting firm, then go for it.

Those who own their own businesses get to set their own dress code. Freelance photographers or architects might find that pairing a t-shirt with a blazer makes them look down-to-earth but still well put together when meeting with clients.

Date nights and get-togethers

On a casual date, say catching a movie or going out for drinks, the blazer/t-shirt look will work. It’s a step up from jeans and a t-shirt and shows your date that you’ve got a bit of fashion sense. You can also wear a blazer with a t-shirt when you get together with friends for a night on the town or a dinner party. In fact, the t-shirt and blazer combo will work for just about any casual or informal party.
On the flipside, if you’re taking your date to an upscale restaurant or a play, wearing a t-shirt with your blazer isn’t appropriate. It’s likewise inappropriate for upscale cocktail parties, particularly if your boss will be there.

Women, t-shirts, and blazers

Women, on the other hand, can wear a t-shirt under a blazer just about any day of the week. A fitted, color cotton tee under a camel-colored blazer paired with dressed-up jeans is a can’t miss look. It can even be work-appropriate if you wear matching dress slacks. A t-shirt with a blazer looks sophisticated and is a great way to dress up without going the frilly, girly route.

How to wear a t-shirt with a blazer

It probably goes without saying that you should never pair a pastel tee and a white blazer with rolled up sleeves unless you’re the legendary Mr. Johnson. To pull off this look, you’ve got to pick a casual t-shirt. And no, that doesn’t mean a holey pit-stained Hooter’s shirt. Go for something sharp, designer-inspired and in a darker tone. Also, always go with a round collar; no v-necks.

The Rule of Thumb

When in doubt about wearing a t-shirt with a blazer, just remember this rule: Wearing a t-shirt with a blazer is NEVER, EVER a substitute for a suit.

Avoid See Through T-Shirts – Three Pointers

Sometimes you may wonder why you’re getting the stares you’re getting while you walk down the street. It could be you simply didn’t realize how see through your t-shirt was before you walked out the door, or maybe you simply choose not to care if your nipples or chest hair are obviously showing to the world. I prefer to think the former. And if the latter defines you, then please realize that your chest hair and nipples are not so attractive when shining through a t-shirt. Whether you’re showing it all and it leaves no need for imagination, or your chest hair and nipples are obviously there, but it’s up to us to determine the details (ugh!), here are some pointers to help you avoid this embarrassing dilemma.

Watch out for thin materials or worn out t-shirts
If you purchase a t-shirt that’s too thin, then you’re asking for trouble. If a t-shirt is too thin, it allows for the shape of your nipples to show (especially when you’re cold) and whether you have a little chest hair or you’re hairy like a monkey, you’re hairy forest will be obvious through a thin t-shirt. Avoid thin cotton and rayon/cotton blends that show almost any shape under a t-shirt. Also, a t-shirt that’s too worn out can be 1) too thin and/or 2) so worn out it’s see through. If you have a favorite t-shirt that’s too thin, see through, or both, then please pack it away in a safe place out of reach from more wear and tear. Choose t-shirts that are made of good quality, heavier material (and newer vs. worn out).

Beware of white or light colored t-shirts
The lighter the color, the more likely it is for nipples and chest hair to show (details and all), especially if the t-shirt is made of a thinner material. White t-shirts are great and versatile, but go for a heavier white material that reflects a good quality t-shirt that leaves no room for imagination. And indeed, please add color to your wardrobe, no matter how light the color, but heed the same advice as if you’re purchasing a white t-shirt. Go for a heavier material to avoid the ‘see through syndrome’. In addition, it will help the color look better, as well.

Check out the mirror before you leave
This would seem rather obvious, but you’d be surprised to know how many men walk out the door prior to looking in the mirror (or their mirrors only show from the neck up), and they often don’t try a t-shirt on prior to buying it as they would a button up blouse or pair of slacks. This being the case, they don’t realize how see through the t-shirt really is, or if not see through, how obvious it is to know that he has cold nipples or chest hair. By simply checking it out in the mirror before leaving home, it could help save all involved from the embarrassment. If in doubt, then ask a friend!

What Is T-Shirt Weather?

When the temperature hits the high 60s, t-shirt weather has officially arrived. You can give or take a few degrees, of course, depending on your tolerance for the cold. Some people won’t declare it t-shirt weather until the temperature reaches the low 70s. In terms of seasons, t-shirt weather usually rolls around in the spring. Basically, though, it’s t-shirt appropriate weather if you can go outside comfortably without long sleeves.

Different ways to define t-shirt weather

T-shirt weather isn’t defined solely by whether it’s warm enough to go outside in short sleeves, however. A warm but breezy spring day, for example, could call for a t-shirt with a light jacket. Just because you have to layer doesn’t mean it’s not t-shirt weather. You can also wear a loose-knit cardigan with a t-shirt on a breezy day.

T-shirt weather can also be defined by answering this question, “Can I wear short sleeves without looking ridiculous?” When everyone else around you is in parkas and sweaters, you might get some odd glances if you’re sporting a t-shirt. Regardless of whether you’re freezing or roasting, you want to dress in seasonally appropriate clothing.

Feelin’ hot, hot, hot!

Once t-shirt weather arrives, it’s here to stay as the thermometer keeps climbing. In fact, the hotter it gets, the more you’re going to thank your lucky stars for t-shirts. A light cotton tee can keep you cool into the hot summer months. Put on a t-shirt, a pair of shorts and some flip-flops and you’ll be good to go. If the temperature hits the triple digits, though, you might see t-shirt weather turning into tank top weather.

Falling leaves, falling temperatures

As fall approaches, the temperatures begin to drop, but you’ve still got a couple of good months of t-shirt weather left. Even though department stores start putting out the coats and sweaters in August, in most places you’ll still have warm days into September and even October. A t-shirt with a sweater vest, for example, is a perfect back-to-school look.

Snowflakes and t-shirts?

Some might argue, though, that there is no such thing as “t-shirt weather” because you can wear t-shirts year round. You can pair a short-sleeve t-shirt with a long-sleeved shirt for a funky layered look. You could also wear a t-shirt with a blazer during the colder months. So, you don’t necessarily have to pack away your t-shirts during the winter.

Most people sleep in t-shirts, which could technically make any time of the year t-shirt weather if you look at it that way. Depending on how warm you keep your house, you might opt for a t-shirt and boxer shorts in December rather than flannel pajamas.

Traveling

Temperatures – and therefore t-shirt weather – varies from state to state and country to country. Always check the forecast when you plan to travel because the temperature might call for t-shirts at your destination even if you’re currently wearing sweatshirts. Also remember that when you travel overseas the seasons themselves can be different. No matter where you’re going, it’s always a safe bet to pack at least a few t-shirts.

How to Recycle Your Old T-Shirts

You’ve got a pile of raggedy t-shirts, too pitiful to wear and certainly too shabby to donate to charity. Rather than chucking them in the trash, try out a few of these ways to recycle old t-shirts. Mother Earth will thank you, and you might just wind up with some pretty cool stuff.

Haute couture from holey shirts?

Maybe it’s not fit to wear as a t-shirt, but it might still have a place in your wardrobe. A shirt with a cool design on the front, such as a band name, can easily be turned into a trendy, one-of-a-kind purse. If you’re feeling sassy, you can turn that old tee into a pair of undies. That’s right! It’s such a popular trend that you can even find patterns for t-shirt panties on the Internet.

Keep it clean

Without a doubt, the most popular use for old t-shirts is to turn them into cleaning rags. Unlike paper towels, t-shirt rags are reusable. Stick them in with a load of laundry, and there good for another few rounds of cleaning. They’re great for drying dishes, cleaning up spills or washing your car. You can cut the shirts up into smaller pieces to use as eyeglass wipes, too.

Old t-shirts can also keep things clean by protecting your expensive clothes. Place the shirt over your suit or dress on the hanger, and it will help keep off the dust. You can place them over shoes as well.

Decorate your house

Decorate my house with ratty t-shirts? Eek! What would Martha Stewart say? It might sound crazy, but old shirts can be transformed into some pretty cool décor. You can make quick and easy throw pillows from old shirts, and you don’t have to worry if they get dirty or spilled on. Let the shirts pull double duty, and cut a few up into small pieces to use as stuffing for you pillows.

If the shirt has a particularly interesting or artsy design, you can cut it out and frame it. You’ll have a very unique piece of art and quite a conversation piece. Or decoupage several shirts squares and paste the finished product on a board. T-shirt squares can also be incorporated into funky quilts.

Gifts for our four-legged friends

You can give an old shirt to your dog as a blanket. They’ll love having something with your smell on it to cuddle up with. You can also use the fabric to make little catnip toys. All you need is a bit of stuffing and a package of dry catnip. Sew up a dozen or so and donate them to the local animal shelter. Or, tie the shirt up into a few knots and you’ve got an instant doggie chew toy.

A few last random ways to recycle old t-shirts:

· Cloth diapers
· Packing material
· Sell them to a company that buys cotton to make rags
· Handkerchiefs
· Donate them to elementary schools for children to wear as painting smocks
· Plant ties
· Woven rugs
· Bedding for ferrets

With all the ways you can give old t-shirts a second life, tossing them into your garbage can should be the farthest thing from your mind!
